September was with Cry For You and Can't Get Over definitely...Agnes was actually on the a-list before she charted top 3 I think, so I'll give them that one, they were probably a large part of the reason behind her success. Which is why it's so frustrating to see Scandipop ignored ever since, Popular a-listed is clearly a top ten smash waiting to happen.

I suppose they think that they're filling their quota of European pop music by shoving it all on Radio 2

They're not entirely to blame of course, at least the BBC between them support these songs occasionally - Heart and Capital wouldn't touch them with a bargepole and I'm seriously struggling to see why Caro Emerald wouldn't be PERFECT for Heart...

I vaguely remember people being frustrated by Radio1 when Agnes appeared, did she peak after a few weeks?

I fail to understand the logic in snubbing Tove and Eric. Both would get to the low top10 at the bare minimum with a little Radio1 support. There is no logic behind their refusal to playlist a massive chunk of brilliant pop music

I'm not blaming them for Tone's lack of success, she was one of the most play artists on Radio2 last year with a single track. That I blame the UK public for ignoring :heehee:

UKRadio as a whole just frustrates me with how dire it is. Kingdom FM is the kind of station that is still playing Sex On Fire.

IIRC R1 was actually fairly quick off the ball with Release Me and they playlisted INYN as well. (They ignored On & On though)

And AFAIK they gave good support to both of September's hits as well.

Also, R1 did playlist Alors On Danse. They were pretty much the only station in the UK supporting it and the main reason it even went top 30.

It's true they don't give *enough* airtime to European music (specifically European pop music - I get your criticism fully for that) but I don't think it's fair to say they don't give it any. On the current R1 playlist there's Alex Gaudino on the A-List, Alexandra Stan, Justice and Swedish House Mafia (also David Guetta) on the B-List and Vato Gonzalez on the In New Music We Trust List.

And not a single one of those tracks is Scandipop.

I didn't know for September, I did think she had support as she's close enough in sound to early Cascada and we all know Radio1 are Cascada fans.

Was it not only a C-listing for a short period of time though?

Actually Popular's chorus is:

I will be Popular, I will be Popular,

I'm gonna get there Popular,

My body wants you girl, my body wants you girl,

I'll get you when I'm Popular

I'll keep my hands up in the light, you see me dancing for my life

I will be Popular, I will be Popular

I'm gonna get there Popular

It's no less repetitive than other songs - Alexis Jordan's Hush Hush (brilliant as it is) says 'coming for you tough' tons of times throughout the entire song, not just the chorus!

Thanks for pointing that out, that doesn't make my last post invalid.

You're right, it doesn't but I think it's important for you to know how much you pick holes in everything. ;)

Capital will play absolutely anything, as long as it goes top 10 on iTunes. To be fair, at least they're consistent.

And also, Capital played Robyn (Dancing On My Own), September (Can't Get Over) and Agnes (Need You Now) back in the day. Robyn was the worst though. Capital played her waaaaaaaay too much tbh. And then went from that extreme to playing her follow-up singles like once a week.

The most annoying thing was that Capital never played Alors on danse tbh. It missed out on so much exposure because of that.

However, I have to give credit where it's due. I heard Mr. Saxobeat on Capital before I heard it on Radio 1.

UK Radio can be pretty bad tbh. Heart FM is by far the worst for me, mainly because it's motto is "more music variety", and it's without a doubt the least varied radio station out there. Even less varied than the genre-specific stations like Kerrang!

There's some great UK stations, just seems all the biggest ones have their faults. Radio 1 have a list of artists which they've decided to never playlist under any circumstance (e.g. Alexandra Burke). They've admitted this too. It's not just like some rumour or some conclusion we've jumped to. Then there's Capital, who stop playing artists if they have one flop. And don't play new artists until they're top 10 on iTunes. Then there's Heart, where I really can't think of much that's right with the station.

I think the likes of Radio 2 and Smooth are good. I might not be fond of the music on them, but they don't do like Heart FM and discriminate against genres, but pretend not to. You know what you're getting with those stations.

Blue are top ten combined at the moment, playlist it please Capital :D

When Radio 2 and Asda FM are the only places you're playlisted, you're never going to have a hit...

And not a single one of those tracks is Scandipop.

I realise that they're not Scandipop, that's not the point I was trying to make. Don't really want to argue about that any more though :P

Was your last point about Alors On Danse? It got to the B-List but they dropped it before putting it on A as it wasn't really going anywhere in the charts. But R1 were still the main reason AOD even got as far as it did to be fair. Specifically Scott Mills, he started playing AOD on his show which was what initially got it around the low top 40 mark and then he presumably convinced R1 to playlist it despite it being in a foreign language. They were still showing a lot of reluctance to playlisting it, I'll give you that. But if it weren't for R1/Scott Mills it would likely have never even charted in all fairness. If it wasn't about AOD I just typed all that out for nothing.

Someone on DS forums actually COMPLAINED about them ignored her, and they sent back some BS about her 'not fitting in with the viewers taste' When they playlist the likes of Jessie J, Jennifer Lopez, Nicole Scherzinger and Beyonce, who are all very similar. God knows why they hate her so much! As for them totally ignoring Scandi-pop gems like White Light Moment, Hysteria, All Over The World and Butterflies - if they (particularly Hysteria) were by a UK/US artist they'd be playlisted (not hat I'm calling R1 xenophobic, they just seem to hate Scandi-pop). White Light Moment sounds like it would suit Ellie Goulding out of the R1 faves, I bet if it was released by her it would be STRAIGHT to A-List!

 Does she like anything?

EXACTLY!

Although, I'll give them not playlisting Butterflies. That fit Radio2 much better, it's a bit Twee for Radio1. [Although if it was released by the Sugababes it'd be at least C-listed. They have playlisted EVERY Sugababes single, even the 4.0 ones and they are a lot of the reason No Can Do actually charted]

I don't think I was being pedantic. There's a very big difference between 'Scandi-pop' and 'music from Scandinavian artists'. It just sounded to me like you were accusing R1 of discriminating against Scandinavians. But whatever...
From the context I would have thought it was obvious Pop music was the focus of the discussion. I'm hardly going to moan about Eric not being playlisted and then accuse Radio1 of snubbing Scandi-Indie am I?

Doesn't the whole chorus consist of "I will be popular"?

It's not exactly groundbreaking and tbh I wouldn't say it's playlist worthy.

But I agree that Radio 1 should playlist more European non-UK/US songs. Maybe the reason we always do rubbish in Eurovision is because European acts do rubbish in our charts.

No there's a damn sight more than that actually.

That would be the very obvious hook I was talking about.

We do rubbish in Eurovision because we don't take it seriously and send utter gash like Andy the Bin man and Josh from last year with a song that would have sounded dated when the dinosaurs walked the earth.

Capital is amazing, Non stop hits all the time. Same with Kiss. Hardly any of the drivel chatting you hear on radio 1.

Remember Radio 1 are aimed primarily at a 15-29 year old market, most of them would be more into dubstep, hip hop & Indie than Scandi-pop, and some of this audience, would probably have very little interest in Eurovision unfortunately :(

Yes it was about Alors On Danse. I hated the song so didn't follow it's playlisting. I was surprised it made it in the first place given that it's sung in French.

Blue are around 6th combined? New peak this week then. If it went top 10 though it would rocket up :)

Dissapointing about the finish for the Uk :( But France did awful!

As if teenage girls wouldn't hoover up Eric Saade.

Cancel that I was looking at the wrong chart "slaps self"

I'm going to have to agree with Silas on this one, I'm pretty sure Eric Saade would be popular (no pun intended) in that age range if R1 have him a chance.

Good grief LMFAO #1 :( I really don't want to see the track at #1 again, anything else will do but no LMFAO please.

They're still #2 for me  Quite far behind as well

As if teenage girls wouldn't hoover up Eric Saade.

true, but its not very well known here anyway, so the tag 'Eurovision' would probably put them off

and WTF at LMFAO back at number 1  I pray its just the weekend effect and it starts falling tomorrow

edit: wait, their still at 2 for me as well  you sure about that Mikey?

I'm sure there are thousands of acts where the same applies, doesn't mean they should playlist them either.

Yeah. Alors on danse was surprising. To be honest, I think the reason it got playlisted was because it was so big. I mean, it was literally getting #1 in country, after country, after country. I don't know for sure, but I check the charts in other countries occasionally, and it seemed as big as the likes of We No Speak Americano and Stereo Love in the rest of Europe. Even Radio 1 would have difficulty ignoring that.

They did give an English version to Radio 1, with the verses by Erik Hassle, but they played the French version nearly all the time.

Most teenage girls are surely too shallow to worry about the Eurovision tag when faced with this;
