May 21, 201213 yr Author As each hour passes, the more absolutely CERTAIN I am that Euphoria will win, I really feel like it will be in the UK iTunes top ten this time next week too, I'm fully prepared to look foolish with this comment, which is incredibly risky to make considering that Fairytale is the only other example of this ever happening
May 21, 201213 yr I actually think it could go top 20 Rich, you're not alone (maybe I'm stanning too though) - it certainly has a much wider appeal than say Satellite or Running Scared (and Fairytale, but it won't do as well as that) and I can see people downloading it as they hear coverage of it winning, even though they may not be ESC fans. Wishful thinking though tbh
May 21, 201213 yr Well, hopefully people will download 'Euphoria' after the first performance. Then when it wins, more people will download it after the finalé performance. Then when Loreen's win is shown on the news on Sunday morning, more people will buy it. Then there's the iTunes floaters who will probably see 'Euphoria' high up not knowing what it is, listen to the preview and purchase. :D Plus like GD and others have noted, this years Eurovision entries are getting more promotion through several music channels which is brilliant to see. If Loreen wins then Dance Naton, Chart Show TV, etc... might be persuaded to keep the video on their playlists. *.*
May 21, 201213 yr Anyone watching the Panorama:Eurovision's Dirty Secret thing on BBC1? It starts now (unless you are in Scotland when it's on at 22:45 on Wed) and focuses on the suitability of Azerbaijan to host.
May 21, 201213 yr Author Yeah I'm watching it, apparently Engelbert was disgusted at being cornered to comment for this documentary. I'm really not a fan of this forceful investigative journalism, I find it very underhand. That said, the whole Azerbaijan-Armenia voting scandal was disgusting.
May 21, 201213 yr Engelbert can fuck off. I don't see the problem with the way he was asked questions personally. He could have said, it's not my place to comment and boom that'd be it. I don't mind this kind of journalism personally because it has a knack of uncovering some things that wouldn't otherwise see the light of day. I'm still furious they even won in the first place never mind got the chance to host.
May 21, 201213 yr That said, the whole Azerbaijan-Armenia voting scandal was disgusting. I didn't see this documentary but what exactly happened for Armenia to withdraw? :o
May 21, 201213 yr Author I didn't see this documentary but what exactly happened for Armenia to withdraw? :o The two countries are 'enemies' basically. In 2009, the TV network screening Eurovision in Azerbaijan blocked Armenia's performance, a few people tried to vote for it anyway (either out of protest or because they'd heard the song pre-contest) and got taken in for questioning by authorities! Because of the friction (to put it mildly) between the two countries, Armenia had to pull out to ensure their own safety. If anything the documentary just made me more and more glad that I never entertained the idea of travelling to Azerbaijan for the contest. Glad I'm not one of those overly devoted/obsessed fans that travels to the contest every year, regardless of where it is.
May 22, 201213 yr Zalileh has been growing on me the last few days. So much so it's knocked Belgium off my list of wanted qualifiers. I still don't love it, but it's a happy song. :P
May 22, 201213 yr Just spotted Peter30 on the ESC Xtra live stream chat! :D Edited May 22, 201213 yr by Ryan741
May 22, 201213 yr Russia trends · Change #VOTEIrelandEurovision WHY bloody IRELAND?!! The third trend is Buranovkie Babushki, by the way.
May 23, 201213 yr Some points of interest from today's annual EBU press conference being held in Baku: Preliminary dates for 2013: 14 May First Semifinal 16 May Second Semifinal 18 May Final In 2015, it will be the 60th anniversary of the contest. The EBU are looking in to how to commemorate the event- possibly like the ‘Congratulations’ show, the archive project, and other ideas coming from broadcasters such as documentaries etc. The EBU’s Television Committee rejected the idea of mandatory national selections, so it will not be in force for 2013. Full blog here: http://escxtra.com/2012/05/ebu-press-conference-2/
May 23, 201213 yr 2015 confirmed (not that there was any doubt in my mind) but I do wonder just how long the contest will go on for (hopefully for a long long time yet). I think mandatory national selections could've possibly put at least a couple of countries off due to cost maybe so I don't mind about them not being enforced for now, not like I'd watch any aside from Melodifestivalen. "Armenia MUST broadcast the final to take part next year" was one point I picked up on. Are they planning to broadcast the final this year? With everything that's happened and it being in Azerbaijan I have some doubt but it would be a shame to not see them return next year when it should be somewhere safer.

Azerbaijan shouldn't have been allowed to host.
May 25, 201213 yr The jury final vote is taking place right now. Just watching the rolling blog that Keith is providing at AKOE. Apparently Loreen swallowed some of the snow and it went "badly off the rails". Make of that what you will... Although o be fair, I've found his views far more balanced this year.
May 25, 201213 yr In honor of all things Swedish, my friend is attending my eurovision party in a skirt made from an IKEA bag! It looks like some weird kind of awesomeness!
May 26, 201213 yr Major dilemma! :( I've got to be up at 4:30 tomorrow for a rowing race so on any other night it'd be an early night. But I really don't want to miss Eurovision at all! How long do you reckon I'd be able to stay up til and not feel like crap tomorrow morning?

May 26, 201213 yr I'd always feel like crap waking up at 4.30, but when I used to start work at 5am, hence wake up at 4, I used to go to be at 9 by the latest... I was thinking about watching the performances and then catching up on the results later, would that take me up to about 9:30-10? I've been surviving on 6-7 hours of sleep this week anyway so it shouldn't be that different. Plus I usually start to feel the effects of waking up early around midday rather than in the morning.

You should be ok with 7 hours! Any less than that and I lose the will to live the next day  ---- Bliss have a few Eurovision preview shows on during the day, I'm really pleased with how much UK TV have been supporting them this year! Sadly there have been no individual plays of any song enough to appear in the top 50 TV chart, if only Euphoria actually had a proper video! Scrolling through the music channels in fact, there are loads of Eurovision things on today!
