May 22, 201114 yr Author 01.R Kelly - Ignition Remix - It sickened me how a paedophile got to #1 in the UK. I don't like the song either. 02.Girls Aloud - No Good Advice - This was robbed. Easily one of their best singles. Love it! 03.Big Brovaz - Favourite Things - A weird cover version....was it "hoochie dresses and top-shop impressives" as the lyrics? 04.Sean Paul - Get Busy - Nah 05.Tomcraft - Loneliness - Nah 06.Lisa Scott-Lee - Lately - Cheap Kylie copy. Not as dire as her other two singles..... 07.Cheeky Girls - Take Your Shoes Off - Ewwww :puke2: 08.Craig David Featuring Sting - Rise And Fall - Both on the slide, and heading to the $h!tter in career stakes.....The former is non-existent. Boring song. 09.Bon Jovi - All About Lovin' You - Nah. 10.Bhangra Knights Vs Husan - Husan - I liked this :) 11.50 Cent - In Da Club - Overhyped $h!t.....shame Fiddy wasn't eliminated on shot nr 8 - we wouldn't be subject to his sexist ramblings. 12.Good Charlotte - Girls And Boys - I loved the video to this with the old granny ;) Catchy song though :) 13.Mr Redz Vs DJ Skribble - Everybody Come On (Can U Feel It) - Don't know it. 14.Busted - You Said No - Pathetic song. Lyrics like nursery children "I asked you to dance at the disco, but you said no" 15.Deftones - Minerva - Don't know it 16.Red 'N' White Machines - Southampton Boys - How the mighty fall.....Southampton were a mid-table Premier League side and made the FA Cup Final. Now they are in League One heading back to he Championship. Don't know the song. 17.DMX - X Gon' Give It To Ya -3 - Gangsta rap nonesense. 18.Lisa Maffia - All Over - I loved this!!! A bit chaotic the song and video, but it all works well. 19.Bone Thugs-N-Harmony Featuring Phil Collins - Home - Stupid rap sampling an 80s songs. 20.Kelly Rowland - Can't Nobody - Decent mid-tempo song :) 21.Ronan Keating - The Long Goodbye - I liked this. 22.The Wildhearts - So Into You - Don't know 23.Shed Seven - Why Can't I Be You - Don't know. 24.Androids - Do It With Madonna - I remember this...first saw it on a late night show in early 2003.....it wasn't bad. 25.Room 5 Featuring Oliver Cheatham - Make Luv - Desperate song. Notice how in the video, Oliver looks young, yet it was a 60 yr old man singing it thinking he was cool! 26.Junior Senior - Move Your Feet - I LOVED this and the Amstrad/NES type video. 27.Kym Marsh - Cry - Drippy ballad. 28.Plummet - Damaged - Don't know. 29.Snap! - Rhythm Is A Dancer {2003} - Still a classic. 30.The Eighties Matchbox B-Line Disaster - Chicken - Don't know 31.Jennifer Lopez Featuring LL Cool J - All I Have - I like this one. May 22, 201114 yr Author How is R Kelly a paedophile? The only paedo who's had a UK #1 is Gary Glitter. Didn't he have a relationship with an under-age Aaliyah? Plus wasn't there a scandal with a tape where the girl was under 16? I don't know whether I crossed wires as the age of consent is probably 18 in the US?
May 22, 201114 yr I remember at the time R Kelly couldn't perform the song in the UK due to legal reasons. I did hear he was on trial for child sex offences but I'm unsure what actually happened because I don't care enough. AWFUL song. In fact most of that chart is awful
May 22, 201114 yr My faves and comments... 01.R Kelly - Ignition Remix Song was so good it overcame little promo and previous bad press. Excellent R&B cut. 02.Girls Aloud - No Good Advice For some reason I really hated this song at the time. I'm not sure why. It's great. 03.Big Brovaz - Favourite Things Rap remake of The Sound of Music. I actually love this one, even if the idea was a bit cheesy. 04.Sean Paul - Get Busy Nah, I'll pass. Never liked Sean Paul although this was better than his others. 05.Tomcraft - Loneliness One of the better dance tunes from pretty poor years for the genre. Not surprised it got to #1. 06.Lisa Scott-Lee - Lately Crap!! I hated her and her weak as pish voice even when she was in Steps. 07.Cheeky Girls - Take Your Shoes Off Horrible song that wasn't even vaguely funny like The Cheeky Song was. 08.Craig David Featuring Sting - Rise And Fall Pretty average. No idea why this was such a big hit. 09.Bon Jovi - All About Lovin' You I think this was some bland MoR crap from my memory. I'll pass. 10.Bhangra Knights Vs Husan - Husan Mediocre tune bagging on the success of Indian-influenced music at the time. 11.50 Cent - In Da Club The only Fiddy song anyone will ever need. His career should really have begun and ended here. 12.Good Charlotte - Girls And Boys Liked it at the time, but it's a pretty stupid song really... 13.Mr Redz Vs DJ Skribble - Everybody Come On (Can U Feel It) Garage song, I think. Very 2000 but tried to bring it up-to-date by adding Busta Rhymes. It was ok. 14.Busted - You Said No Not as good as their first two singles and only got to #1 by default. 15.Deftones - Minerva Not my cup of tea at all here. Nothing else to say on this for that reason. 16.Red 'N' White Machines - Southampton Boys I have no recollection of this at all?! Some football $h!t, clearly. 17.DMX - X Gon' Give It To Ya Bit of an unexpected rap hit this one, probably thanks to new gangsta rap fans from Fiddy's success. Ok song though. 18.Lisa Maffia - All Over Debut single from Liiiiisa Maffia. No idea why this was so big either, but it was a good song I guess. 19.Bone Thugs-N-Harmony Featuring Phil Collins - Home No memory of this. Another song that probably benefitted from the new popularity of hip-hop. 20.Kelly Rowland - Can't Nobody Thought it was pretty crap compared to Stole at the time. Like it a lot more now, and vice versa with Stole. And I can't be arsed to comment on the rest, so faves, with occasional comments: 23.Shed Seven - Why Can't I Be You 24.Androids - Do It With Madonna Novelty rock from Australia. Good song, quite different, funny music video. Shame it wasn't bigger. 26.Junior Senior - Move Your Feet 27.Kym Marsh - Cry Boring as hell, but I did like her 3rd and floppiest single Sentimental quite a lot. 28.Plummet - Damaged 31.Jennifer Lopez Featuring LL Cool J - All I Have 33.Robbie Williams - Come Undone 38.Clipse Featuring Faith Evans - Ma I Don't Love Her 40.Dead Or Alive - You Spin Me Round {2003} Limp remix. Pretty pointless. I seem to recall they always played this version on the music channels back when the song was re-charting back in 2006 too :( Edited May 22, 201114 yr by superbossanova

May 22, 201114 yr songs I really like, or dislike 01.R Kelly - Ignition Remix :D 02.Girls Aloud - No Good Advice :D 05.Tomcraft - Loneliness  08.Craig David Featuring Sting - Rise And Fall -_- 11.50 Cent - In Da Club :D (one of his few good songs) 12.Good Charlotte - Girls And Boys   (I really liked this, haven't heard it in ages) 14.Busted - You Said No :kink: 21.Ronan Keating - The Long Goodbye  25.Room 5 Featuring Oliver Cheatham - Make Luv :D 26.Junior Senior - Move Your Feet        (one of my favourite songs of 2003!) 29.Snap! - Rhythm Is A Dancer {2003}(classic) 31.Jennifer Lopez Featuring LL Cool J - All I Have :kink: 40.Dead Or Alive - You Spin Me Round {2003}(classic) SELECTED OTHERS!! 41.Avril Lavigne - I'm With You (not her best, My Happy Ending was better) 42.Gareth Gates And The Kumars - Spirit In The Sky  47.Mis-teeq - Scandalous :D 64.Richard X Vs Liberty X - Being Nobody <_< 67.Coldplay - Clocks      (hell, I'm like that with all Coldplay songs ) 69.DJ Sammy - The Boys Of Summer -_-
May 22, 201114 yr In Da Club is easily the most remembered and loved song from that chart today tbh. There's some songs in there that I swear are much older than 2003 though!!! :o Like Rhythmn is a Dancer? And You Spin me Round (which is also very remembered and loved thanks to the glory that was Right Round!). And I really don't like reading people saying they wish 50 died when he got shot at. It's not the first time I've read someone say this on here either... Also, interesting that the only artists from that chart in our current chart are Jennifer Lopez and 50 Cent (unless I'm missing someone). Kelly Rowland will also be in our charts soon though. And Robbie Williams kind of is via Take That. This chart is MUCH, MUCH, MUCH better than our charts today tbh. It kind of makes me sad. :( And I don't even know all the songs. She was 17, in the UK noone would have batted an eyelid. And he was found not guilty on all charges. Yeah, I hate it when someone has a relationship with a 17 year-old, and then people go around calling them pedophiles tbh, because I always imagine "pedophile" to describe someone who does those things to pre-pubecsent children. I genuinely can't count all the girls I know in real life who've had boyfriends age 18 or up when they were 17. If she was 14, it would've been creepy. Edited May 22, 201114 yr by Eric_Blob
May 22, 201114 yr Didn't he have a relationship with an under-age Aaliyah? Plus wasn't there a scandal with a tape where the girl was under 16? I don't know whether I crossed wires as the age of consent is probably 18 in the US? She was 17, in the UK noone would have batted an eyelid. And he was found not guilty on all charges. It was claimed the girl in the tape was 14 by the prosecution, and the niece of R. Kelly's former protege Sparkle. However, she never testified against R. Kelly and reportedly denied that she was the person in the tape (despite several of her relatives, friends, etc. saying it was her, but there was also several who didn't) so the jury could never prove the age of the girl in the tape. This is the main reason why he was found not guilty. The R. Kelly / Aaliyah relationship was a pretty big rumour at the time. The only evidence is a supposed marriage licence published in a magazine at the time (you can probably find it online). There is no other evidence of it, and both strongly denied it. It's just hot air and rumours that nobody knows the truth of. There were also other incidents of R. Kelly with underage girls, but these were settled out of court. I can't remember the exact details of them though, but the famous one that broke in 2002 and went to trial in 2008 was the only one that went further anyway. In Da Club is easily the most remembered and loved song from that chart today tbh. There's some songs in there that I swear are much older than 2003 though!!! :o Like Rhythmn is a Dancer? Umm, it's called remixes... of course those songs are much older than 2003  And yeah, definitely better than today. Even though R&B was popular at the time there's still VARIETY there, especially at the bottom end. Edited May 22, 201114 yr by superbossanova
May 22, 201114 yr 2003 was good, but I found the forthcoming mid-2000s really poor in hindsight - other than the occasional indie classic it's endless really bland R&B, talent show winners, and the Crazy Frog. Lots of memories here though, I was 14 at the time: 01.R Kelly - Ignition Remix Not too bad, no idea how it was #1 for so long though 05.Tomcraft - Loneliness Great trance track but there's an even better one coming up 07.Cheeky Girls - Take Your Shoes Off How the hell did they keep getting hits  14.Busted - You Said No Awful. One of the worst bands of the noughties 26.Junior Senior - Move Your Feet Favourite track of 2003, loved it! 28.Plummet - Damaged Incredible trance tune! The last year of good dance music SELECTED OTHERS!! 42.Gareth Gates And The Kumars - Spirit In The Sky Embarrasingly I bought this 47.Mis-teeq - Scandalous Underrated gem, played all the time in fairgrounds along with Make Luv 69.DJ Sammy - The Boys Of Summer Another good dance song

May 22, 201114 yr This chart must have been a couple of weeks before I left high school for good, the songs in it certainly bring back a lot of 'goodbye school' memories. My favourites in the top 40; 01.R Kelly - Ignition Remix Took me a while to understand why this was called Ignition Remix. I understood why this was favoured over the original version when I finally heard it  Tuneless nothing of a song with very questionable lyrics...the remix was huge with my friends at this time, I definitely recall it being something of a surprise #1 02.Girls Aloud - No Good Advice Proved that they were no one hit wonder  05.Tomcraft - Loneliness Love this, was #1 on my birthday after it overtook the dire Rise & Fall at the last minute. My local radio station used to play a version called the Munich edit, which added an extra piano line - which is ten times better, glorious in fact! It's on iTunes! 09.Bon Jovi - All About Lovin' You Was this the one with the video where the guy slowly fell off a building? I do vaguely remember the song, it was better than most of their fanbase top ten hits 12.Good Charlotte - Girls And Boys Urrgh, Good Charlotte were massive amongst my friends at this point, I couldn't stand them 18.Lisa Maffia - All Over 19.Bone Thugs-N-Harmony Featuring Phil Collins - Home Don't recall this at all which is odd, I thought I remember every top 20 hit of the 00's! 24.Androids - Do It With Madonna I'm also surprised that this wasn't a bigger hit, I was reminded of it when I heard it in a shop at uni a few years ago 26.Junior Senior - Move Your Feet 28.Plummet - Damaged 29.Snap! - Rhythm Is A Dancer {2003} 31.Jennifer Lopez Featuring LL Cool J - All I Have 32.Feeder - Forget About Tomorrow 34.Delta Goodrem - Born To Try  The love affair began
May 22, 201114 yr ignition and in da club are the only songs from that list i would count as classic hits and rhythm is a dancer and you spin me round although they had already had great chart histories previous to that chart era

The last year of good dance music SELECTED OTHERS!! 42.Gareth Gates And The Kumars - Spirit In The Sky Embarrasingly I bought this 47.Mis-teeq - Scandalous Underrated gem, played all the time in fairgrounds along with Make Luv 69.DJ Sammy - The Boys Of Summer Another good dance song I actually expected to more from this chart, as I really liked 2003 a year. But I'm surprised how poor it was. Maybe it was just a little bad patch though, I recall there were some really good songs released in the few weeks after this, and April/May time never seems to be a strong period musically for some reason. Another person who hates the mid-00s  I know I'm like the only person on this forum who liked the charts back then. Didn't R. Kelly also claim it wasn't him in the tape? R. Kelly might be a bit of a creep but he's not a paedophile AFAIC. Well of course he'd claim that :P But yeah, he did. His main defense was that the tape was doctored (sounds far-fetched but we are in the 21st century so these kind of things are possible) and there was also a thing about how the man apparently didn't have a mole on his back, which R. Kelly does. The whole problem with the case was that it was a second-hand copy of the tape and wasn't particularly clear so it was very hard to say anything for certain. Combine that with the facts I said in my previous post about the girl not testifying and the uncertainty among her relatives about whether the girl in the tape really was the same one involved in the case and the prosecution didn't really have much to win the case. If you follow the "R. Kelly is a paedophile" line (which I don't, FYI, I'm just stating the facts), then you could say that he was damn lucky and got off on technicalities. But yeah, like the Aaliyah story, the only evidence against him is rumours and allegations. Nobody knows the truth so making claims about him being a paedophile is a little libellous. Regardless we can still at least all admit that Ignition was an excellent tune, and that the man is a brilliant and influental musician who many of the R&B stars of today wouldn't exist without, right? ignition and in da club are the only songs from that list i would count as classic hits and rhythm is a dancer and you spin me round although they had already had great chart histories previous to that chart era I'd agree with that - but remember this chart was a good period for R&B music. Pop music was on the way out (look at the relative underperformance of someone like D-Side for proof of that), dance music was average and way past its best, and rock music was slightly better than it was in 2001 but was still going through a slight slump ready for the big increase in popularity in 2004 and 2005. So of course there would be more 'classics' and well-remembered stuff from R&B music, just like there were more classics from dance music in the late 90s/early 00s than probably any other genre.
May 23, 201114 yr I never knew this "R. Kelly is a paedophile" thing before. Or have I just forgotten it?  Edited May 23, 201114 yr by FM11
May 23, 201114 yr My comments: 01.R Kelly - Ignition Remix - didn't deserve to stay #1 for so long. S Club's farewell single was definitely robbed. 02.Girls Aloud - No Good Advice - quite a decent tune (even though it ripped off My Sharona). Was released a bit too late. 03.Big Brovaz - Favourite Things - weird remake. 04.Sean Paul - Get Busy - not a bad song. Had a strange chart run (4-6-7-7-7-19-49) due to deletion. 05.Tomcraft - Loneliness - bit a surprise #1. 06.Lisa Scott-Lee - Lately - don't really remember this one. 07.Cheeky Girls - Take Your Shoes Off - preferred this to Cheeky Song. 08.Craig David Featuring Sting - Rise And Fall - average song. 09.Bon Jovi - All About Lovin' You - surprise top 10 hit (previous hit had missed top 20). Not a bad song from what I remember. 10.Bhangra Knights Vs Husan - Husan - quite liked this one, even though I couldn't understand most of it! 11.50 Cent - In Da Club - bit overrated. 12.Good Charlotte - Girls And Boys - preferred their previous hit (with its crazy chart run!) but this wasn't bad. 13.Mr Redz Vs DJ Skribble - Everybody Come On (Can U Feel It) - used same sample as Perpetual Motion's 1998 hit. Just noticed that this has similarities to Tiesto's Come On. 14.Busted - You Said No - not their best. Part of their 3-2-1 peak pattern. 15.Deftones - Minerva - don't remember this, only spent 1 week in the top 40. 16.Red 'N' White Machines - Southampton Boys - only had 1 week in the top 75. Only heard this on the chart show - the day after Southampton had lost the FA Cup final! 17.DMX - X Gon' Give It To Ya - not a bad song 18.Lisa Maffia - All Over - surprised this got as high as #2, was OK. 19.Bone Thugs-N-Harmony Featuring Phil Collins - Home - equalled peak of Phil Collins' original version. Comeback hit for BTNH, whose hit Tha Crossroads had been covered by Blazin' Squad the previous year. 20.Kelly Rowland - Can't Nobody - average. 21.Ronan Keating - The Long Goodbye - pretty average. 22.The Wildhearts - So Into You - don't remember this one. 23.Shed Seven - Why Can't I Be You - ditto. 24.Androids - Do It With Madonna - didn't quite 'get' this one. Was expected to be bigger by some. 25.Room 5 Featuring Oliver Cheatham - Make Luv - average dance remake. Was surprised this was so big. 26.Junior Senior - Move Your Feet - loved this at the time. 27.Kym Marsh - Cry - pretty average. Parts of it sounded a bit reminiscent of More Than A Woman (Bee Gees/Tavares). 28.Plummet - Damaged - quite liked this one. Did well for a #12. 29.Snap! - Rhythm Is A Dancer - don't really remember this remix. 30.The Eighties Matchbox B-Line Disaster - Chicken - don't remember this, or any of their other hits. 31.Jennifer Lopez Featuring LL Cool J - All I Have - average. 32.Feeder - Forget About Tomorrow - quite liked this. 33.Robbie Williams - Come Undone - quite good. Seemed to be 2 slightly different versions of this, with 'done' (just before the chorus) sung on a much higher note in one version than in the other. 34.Delta Goodrem - Born To Try - not a bad song. 35.Madonna - American Life - this was OK. 36.Staind - Price To Play - don't remember this. 37.George Harrison - Any Road - don't remember this. Could be considered to be a follow-up to a #1. 38.Clipse Featuring Faith Evans - Ma I Don't Love Her - don't really remember this. Clipse featured on Justin Timberlake's Like I Love You. 39.Less Than Jake - She's Gonna Break Soon - don't remember this. 40.Dead Or Alive - You Spin Me Round - don't remember this remix. Was re-issued again less than 3 years later, reaching #5.
May 23, 201114 yr R Kelly  I love that he kept crap like Girls Aloud and S Club from the top spot
May 23, 201114 yr This was a few months before I started following the chart regularly again, but I'll have a look...
