Coldplay have announced that they will release their new single this Friday.

The band revealed that the song is titled 'Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall' and will act as the lead track from their upcoming fifth studio album, following a handful of recent online teaser videos.

Coldplay drummer Will Champion said: "We're about to play a bunch of summer festivals so it's as good a time as any to put out a new song.

"'Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall' will be available digitally on Friday, June 3 at 12pm (BST), except in the UK where it'll come out on the stroke of midnight between Saturday, June 4 and Sunday, June 5.

"We'll also stream it here on Friday and give it a run out at Rock Im Park."

I got the same email as James

Quite excited - loved Christmas Lights so that's a good sign....

Really like the artwork! :o
Really like the artwork! :o

really?

It looks like something from the Buzzjack cover design competition...

People go on about that as if it's a bad thing - I think it's rather insulting that you said it to Cremey, as he is one of the prominent designers there. I also love the artwork anyway, and look forward to the song - I've never been a huge fan, but I loved the singles from 'Viva la Vida' and 'Lost!' remains an absolute choon.

No offense to anyone who competes in it (I used to), but no one on here designs for a living (as far as I know) and I've never seen any great design on it (besides a few ▲▲▲ + Cremey covers and the odd other). Most of them are pictures with a bunch of layer effects over it + some font from DaFont.com. In terms of trendy 'forum art' some of it is done really well and is definitely appropriate but none of it would fly outside the context of a forum or DeviantArt-like circles.

This cover's pretty boring ~ i m o ~

I'm afraid that this an unfortunate co-incidence. I have no idea who is prominent and who is not in that competition. I just browse the entries now and again.

I apologise to anyone who took offense - especially Cremey - it was in no way meant to be an attack on him.

Further more - now that I look at the Coldplay cover again, I think it's actually weaker than a lot of the entries in the cover design competition.

That cover tells me the song is electro pop. Hope it's right.

I think you might be right.

I'm so excited for this :D my favourite band ever, I really hope its something different and not 'typical Coldplay' like Christmas Lights was (I loved it, but it won't win them any new fans)

I hope it can be a top 10 hit as well

No worries, no offence taken! [Although thanks, Theo]

I think I just like the cover because it's a bit different for them really, most of the covers have been bland as anything, this just seems to have a bit more LIFE.

Cannot wait. Have been a huge fan of Coldplay for a while. I'm a little scared, however; I've heard this and the new album may be electropoppish. If they're really dabbling in the genre, I hope it's just that: dabbling. Think Rainy Day off of Prospekt's March.

I love the slow, mellow, Sparks and Green Eyes type songs that they have, and I'm a little frightened to see them leave that behind. However, Coldplay haven't disappointed me yet - Friday needs to come sooner! :)

Not sure what to think on first listen... At least it isn't electropop.
I really like the track a lot, its going to be Jester's new #1 come Sunday in his personal chart :D

This song was pleasant enough on first listen; but with each additional one it gets more and more glorious. Love it.
