Missed 'Hits'

The Black Eyed Peas - 'Party All the Time' from The E.N.D.

Jason Derulo - 'Strobelight' from Jason Derulo

Lady Gaga - 'So Happy I Could Die' from The Fame Monster

Lily Allen - 'Back to the Start' from It's Not Me, It's You

Leona Lewis - 'Outta My Head' from Echo

Note: Although I believe it would've been HUGE at the time of [bBP] and [iGF], 'Party All the Time' will remain one of my favourite songs for a long, long time - and in that sense I'm glad they never released it. I had the same fear about 'Just Can't Get Enough' at first too - although that was luckily chosen as the second single. I'd suggest forum members to check this song out though - such a gem!

Potential 'Hits'

Chase & Status - 'Brixton Briefcase (feat. Cee Lo Green)' from No More Idols

Clare Maguire - 'The Happiest Pretenders' from Light After Dark

Jessie J - 'Stand Up' from Who You Are

Lady Gaga - 'Marry the Night' from Born This Way

Magnetic Man - 'Crossover (feat. Katy B )' from Magnetic Man

About the Lady Gaga songs most people are suggesting, they were released in some other countries as singles (Monster and Dance in the Dark), and they didn't do as good as Alejandro (not even close).

Professor Green ft. Labirinth - Oh My God (Alive 'Til I'm Dead) - How the awful Jungle beat it to be a single I'll never know!

Kylie Minogue - Aphrodite (Aphrodite)

Miley Cyrus - Permanent December (Can't Be Tamed)

The Saturdays - Karma (Headlines), Chasing Lights (Chasing Lights) - I prefer Missing You, but Karma would've been a number 1 if it was 1st Headlines single (as would've Higher tbh) and Chasing Lights would've been a better choice (I'd have Up first, then Issues, then Work, then CL).

Beyonce - Radio (I Am... Sasha Fierce) - I mean Diva, Ego and Videophone over this? TRAVESTY!

Britney Spears - Out From Under (Circus) - Could've done an Everytime

Diana Vickers - You'll Never Get To Heaven (Songs From The Tainted Cherry Tree)

Ellie Goulding - Human (Bright Lights)

Jordin Sparks - Emergency (911) (Battlefield)

Ke$ha - Hungover, Blind (Animal) Cannibal, Sleazy (Cannibal) - I love the singles off Animal/Cannibal, but I think We R Who We R should've been followed by Cannibal. Sleazy is my least fave across the album/EP but would've done well.

Lady Gaga - Monster, Dance In The Dark (The Fame Monster) - I think she could've milked another one of these after Alejandro tbh.

Leona Lewis - Take A Bow (Spirit), Outta My Head (Echo) - ditto above, Leona would have gotten away with another single off each album. Plus if it led, Echo would've EASILY gone no.1 with the XF performance!

Mini Viva - Emotions Of Love, I'm Hooked (sampler only) - either of these two from the album sampler in place of I Wish (which I do love) and One Touch (good, but nowhere near the 11/10 pop perfection of LMHIT or the solid 10 of I Wish)

Rihanna - Fire Bomb (Rated R) - I prefer Te Amo, but this would've gone top 10 with ease. We may have to add Man Down here too :(

Sugababes - She's A Mess, Thank You For The Heartbreak (Sweet 7) - Get Sexy is alright but I'd have gone TYFTH, SAM then AAG. The era still would've been a flop though :(

EDIT: Stand Up/Abracadra/Rainbow by Jessie J may as well be added, seeing as WYA will obviously end the era in winter with an XF performance (rightly so, best song on the album imo) as any of these 3 over Who's Laughing Now would be bigger than NP was.

Also, Lady Gaga may have some to add when BTW era ends - Sheisse, Marry The Night, Hair and Americano could all be huge but I don't see her releasing them all.

This song got into a bit of controversy, because of this, and I think this was probably the reason it didn't get considered for a single. The sample wasn't credited in the album like all their other ones are:

I agree with you though. Fantastic song.

Professor Green ft. Labirinth - Oh My God (Alive 'Til I'm Dead) - How the awful Jungle beat it to be a single I'll never know!

That Professor Green song is  Although I did like Jungle too. About how it became a single over that, I heard Professor Green say he wanted to release Jungle because it's closer to the type of music he was doing before he got famous, or something like that.

About Radio. I think it's worse that those other songs you mentioned. It'd be very popular on this website, and I think it would be a hit with the public, but I'm glad it never got released, since I think it's kind of generic. Also, a few people criticized the song in the sense that releasing a song about radios is a fantastic way to get you good radio airplay! But some find that tactic a little cheap, so I think she might've got criticism for that.

Echo did go to #1. :P Or did you mean OMH? I'm so annoyed that opportunity was missed. It was even on the release schedule at one point. :(

I did mean OMH

Agreed!!

- Kelly Clarkson 'Gone'

- Britney Spears 'Shadow', 'I'll Be There', 'Where Are You Now?', 'Cinderella', 'Toy Soldier', 'Hot As Ice'. (Not choosing any 'Femme Fatale' tracks until the era is done with)

- Rihanna 'Fire Bomb'

- Lady GaGa 'Dance In the Dark'

- Leona Lewis 'Naked'

- Jordin Sparks 'Freeze' [After the smash 'No Air' and the surprising moderate hit in 'One Step At A Time', this would have served better as a single over a re-issue of 'Tattoo']

- Avril Lavigne 'Runaway', 'Wish You Were Here' & 'Push'

- Cascada 'Runaway', 'Perfect Day', 'Another Day', 'Fever' (A proper release -_-), 'Breathless'. [They f*** up with singles after the album release -_-]

- Ke$ha 'Hungover'

- Ashley Tisdale 'Overrated' [in fact her whole 'Guilty Pleasure' era should have been bigger than it actually was! :(]

- Beyonce 'Radio'

- Katy Perry 'Self Inflicted', 'If You Can Afford Me', 'Hummingbird Heartbeat', 'The One That Got Away'

- Diana Vickers 'You'll Never Get to Heaven' [WTF? Why did they choose that $h!t 'Once' rip off over this?!]

- Gabriella Cilmi 'What If You Knew' [Or anything else on 'Ten' over that crap 'Hearts Don't Lie']

- Mariah Carey 'Obsessed' [This should have been given a proper push here in the UK. Could have been a massive hit for her!]

- Marina & The Diamonds 'Are You Satisfied?'

- The Saturdays 'Lose Control', 'Open Up' & 'One Shot'

- Ellie Goulding 'Believe Me'

- Shontelle 'Battle Cry', 'Take Ova'

I could go on...

I also agree with the other Leona songs that have been commented on. the main one for me though is Kelly Clarkson's 'Sober'.

That could have done brilliantly as an Autumn single! And actually shifted a few thousand copies of the underrated 'My December' album! I do hope that one day, on X Factor someone with a voice as lovely and vulnerable as Kelly's voice sounds, will perform this and give it the recognition it TRULY deserves.

Britney Spears - Breathe On Me. Best track she has ever recorded, could've been huge with critics, radio and fans.

Kylie Minogue - Speakerphone. As a 1st single, would've given X huge hype.

Girls Aloud - Girl Overboard. The obvious 4th single.

Sugababes - Never Gonna Dance Again / My Love Is Pink. Self-explanatory.

Blake Lewis - Love or Torture (Please Don't Stop). Would've been perfect during the David Guetta chart climate.

- Mariah Carey 'Obsessed' [This should have been given a proper push here in the UK. Could have been a massive hit for her!]

Didn't they release that, and then it did really well on iTunes, then they deleted it after a few days or something? It could've been a hit if they left it on there. Even if the record label didn't do anything else, I'm sure some radio stations would've still started playing it if it was selling that well.

I think a fake version (i.e. the real thing under a different name) went top 15, then Mariah's label deleted it (I think it happened a couple of times) and didn't put it back on until the album got released (by then she was releasing 'I Want to Know What Love Is' and I believe 'Obsessed' was "Album Only" at the time. :( - Maybe Bray could shed some light on this :P) It's such a shame the label f***ed up completely with that release. Could have been a number 1 for her.

Oh and I missed:

Britney Spears: 'Amnesia', 'Quicksand', 'Unusual You', 'Out From Under'.

I must say I whole-heartedly agree with 'You'll Never Get To Heaven' and 'If You Can Afford Me'. The former is easily Diana's best song and the latter is far better than TOM and WUIV (and IKAG :P)

Also, Lily Allen could have easily got another top 5 hit from INM,IY if she'd just done the obvious thing and released Fuck You. Seriously, 22 and Who'd Have Known over that? WTF. She was very lucky to get four top 40s off that album

Edited by Bray

Why would they make Obsessed album-only? I could understand them moving on to another single after all that time, but I can never see the logic in making songs album-only. It just seems so pointless. Oh no, people might buy a song! How dreadful! We must prevent that!

I loved Who'd've Known by Lily Allen.

To sell the album :P (Not that it worked for her  - This is IF it is true about them making it album only haha. I think I remember some people getting annoyed they couldn't purchase it...)

I quoted this post with a reply ready before you edited in the bolded part :drama:

But yeah, a remix featuring Gucci Mane was released which nearly went top 10 on iTunes, then they deleted it. It was re-added again a couple of weeks later and went top 40 again but got deleted a second time. It got re-added *again* and deleted once more. By the time the album was released and the original version was finally available (IIRC it wasn't album-only) people had completely lost all interest. It did give it an odd chart run though which is always a plus for chart geeks like me :kink:

I think it could have gone top 5 if they hadn't insisted on continuously deleting it but #1 would have been way out of her league I think.

Girls Aloud - Watch Me Go

Girls Aloud - Close To love

Girls Aloud - Girl Overboard

Girls Aloud - Control of The Knife

Inface most of "Tangled Up"

I'd say all of Diana Vickers album 'Songs From The Tainted Cherry Tree', but especially Notice, Put It Back Together, You'll Never Get To Heaven, My Hip and Jumping Into Rivers (basically the whole album lol!)

Also, We Own The Night should be released from Selena Gomez's new album 'When The Sun Goes Down' but I bet it won't be thanks to Hollywood Records' 2-singles per album policy!

There are so many more I can think of like Britney's Out From Under (From Circus) and Hot As Ice (From Blackout) and Pixie's Rolling Stone and Coming Home (From Turn It Up Louder) and I few of them have already been mentioned :)

Thanks Bray! :D

I think it could have got to number 1, because of how fast it was climbing. It was climbing pretty quickly (i.e. heading to number 1 style) IIRC. But my memory is so $h!t that I bet it actually took a few days to peak on iTunes.

Oh gosh. WHAT A MESS! :o :o

It did very well in the US, where they released it properly. A shame really. Now all we get of Mariah is a couple of weeks at Christmas. :( She's really beautiful. I'd love her to be in the charts more often. :)

I agree with You'll Never Get To Heaven, that would've been a great single and slightly different and lower tempo to her other songs, which all sounded pretty similar
