June 29, 201114 yr Neither did I actually (and evidently most other people voting here)! :o But nobody is going to vote for it just because it's Rihanna (despite what people claim). My comment wasn't aimed at anybody voting in this game but at the general record buying public (or download buying - doesn't quite have the same ring about it). The fact that "Rude Boy" is in this list as a No.2 hit proves my point. If a nobody had released it, or "What's My Name" for that matter, they would have been panned for being utter garbage. It's also not really aimed at Rihanna either. "Only Girl (In The World)" is a great pop song, fully deserved no.1. Unfortunately despite a few of us having the same thoughts regarding "Rude Boy" in the end I fear it may have picked up enough points to get into the Top 7. This rating game has produced a few genuine pleasing results as it's not been totally predictable - I just hope everyone has been truly honest with their ratings. All, of course, is IMHO. ;) Wouldn't it be boring if we all had the same opinion.
June 29, 201114 yr You like Only Girl, and hate What's My Name? and Rude Boy? So basically you like pop music, but not RnB music? That's fair enough, but I find it very easy to understand why people like What's My Name? The instrumental is orgasmic. I was listening to it earlier today actually. And I'm not one for lyrics, but the lyrics in What's My Name? are so intelligent imo. I like Rude Boy too (although not enough for me to give it any points in this poll, but that goes back to the fact that Rihanna fans don't just automatically rate her highest in absolutely everything, and when they do, it's because it genuinely is their favourite, which is why they're fans in the first place (and this applies to the fanbase of pretty much every single artist tbh)). What's My Name? actually flopped in a lot of countries, so clearly Rihanna can't just put her name to a song and make a music video and get a hit, or else why couldn't it chart in the top 10 in all those countries? Rihanna constantly asking what her name is and Drake saying 'The square root of 69 is 8 something, Cuz I’ve been tryna work it out, oooow' is intelligent?!
June 29, 201114 yr Rihanna constantly asking what her name is and Drake saying 'The square root of 69 is 8 something, Cuz I’ve been tryna work it out, oooow' is intelligent?! The song lasts for more than 30 seconds you know?
June 29, 201114 yr I don't think any of the lyrics are particularly 'intelligent', which lyrics exactly are you referring to?
June 29, 201114 yr I don't think any of the lyrics are particularly 'intelligent', which lyrics exactly are you referring to? The whole song! Drake's verse is the flirting and the foreplay, Rihanna's verses talk about the actual sex (i.e. penetration, thrusting and the rest), and the bridge is where the orgasm happens. All this, and it's suitable to be played on radio!! :D The line you mentioned IS very clever anyway. The obvious bit is that it references a sexual position, but also when being in that position, you give each other oral. When a man gives a girl oral, it's referred to as "eating". In other words, Drake ate Rihanna during the 69-er. "Ate" sounds the same as "8". Don't know how Drake had the spare time to think this all out, but whatever. But honestly, I think the whole song is very well-written.
June 29, 201114 yr I thought Drake's 69 line was quite clever, actually. It's far from being the trashiest line I've ever heard. 'That's why you take me, way past the point of turning me on' line, and the lines before and after it, are both wonderful lyrics. It isn't my favourite Rihanna song, but it has some nice moments like that. ETA: Eric explained it a bit better than I could. I now look on that whole song with a new meaning. Edited June 29, 201114 yr by Eyes
