I can't believe I'm On One is in the top 100! :o Although I don't think it'll peak high. It might hand around for a long time (Lil Wayne has some INCREDIBLE chart runs for such low peaks), like Down On Me, Look At Me Now, etc, but I'm not even sure it'll do that.

I've just realized Till I'm Gone has a music video, which is probably why it's climbed so much recently. I think it'll miss the top 10 though, especially since it's on air, on sale. :( I think it'll do better in the US than the UK.

Well, it's already had 3 weeks in the top 200 (two days from now will be its fourth) so I think it could have decent longevity.

lol. Maybe there's some secret network of Lil Wayne fans who decide to all buy the songs in different weeks so they don't get high in the charts or something. Or it's probably more the fact that most of the songs in question practically never get played on the radio, so people have to discover the songs for themselves.

Oddly though one of Lil Wayne's least long-lived songs was Right Above It, which was one of just two of his own top 40 hits!

That could actually happen, they don't want Lil Wayne selling out on them like Snoop Dogg did with his KP and DG collabs  Maybe the Lil Wayne fans got terrified after reading all the hate comments on Buzzjack :o and purposely didn't let him score another solo T40 hit

I think Lil Wayne has always been pretty commercial, he still has a huge fanbase (mostly in the US but also here, as evidenced by the first-week successes of Right Above It and How To Love) whereas the situation with Snoop was different as he'd remained firmly in 'proper' gangsta rap for some 20 years before rapidly changing with the collaborations with Katy and Guetta, so his fanbase were alienated a bit and as a result he's not as big as he used to be in the US (although he seems to be doing fine here)

I feel like that sometimes. Like when there's a song I like, but part of me doesn't want it to do well, because I don't want to see everybody hating on it. Like Look At Me Now which I mentioned earlier. It's a fantastic song, but I know most people here will hate it, so I'm kind of glad it didn't get high enough in the chart for us to talk about.

Also, I think Lil Wayne has cleverly put himself in a position where he can't sell out. He's a hip hop artist, but he's done loads of RnB, pop, dance, etc. songs, from quite early on in his mainstream career. Most of his fanbase expect this from him, because he was doing that when they became fans (to some extent). Whilst with Snoop Dogg, he stayed more exclusively to hip hop, and his career has just been SO long that it can be a bit of a shock after 20 years, rather than Lil Wayne who's been in the mainstream like 10 years or something, I think.

Similar with other "urban" artists too. Like Chris Brown, Jennifer Lopez, Rihanna. Some people call Rihanna RnB, for example, but she does a lot of dance-pop songs. Rihanna can get away with this, because she's done it consistently throughout her whole career (Pon De Replay, SOS, Don't Stop the Music, Disturbia, Only Girl, S&M). People became fans of her expecting this, so it's not some random sudden change in musical direction, which some people may not like, like with Snoop Dogg.

Sorry for going on for so long. I wrote a massive rant about Usher, but I won't post it because people will probably fall asleep reading it.

EDIT: Bray said it better than me. Basically, a lot of urban artists do pop songs from day one, so their fanbase learn to expect it from day 1, and the sorts of people that want purer music won't become fans in the first place.

Today's (back to correctness - and on time today!) top 100 update:

Because of the revert yesterday there are some rather odd moves here - big drops for Coldplay and Beyoncé songs and big climbs for songs which were climbing but weren't shown as climbing yesterday due to the revert - such as Hitz, Walk, Man Down and The Mack. Both of yesterday's 'drop-outs' are re-instated, with the album version of Foster The People - Pumped Up Kicks back in at #84 and the Clubland 19 version of Alexandra Stan - Mr Saxobeat back at #90. There are three new entries today - Tinie Tempah's next single Till I'm Gone featuring Wiz Khalifa comes in at #75, Wilson Phillips' 1990 UK #6 hit Hold On makes an appearance at #89 (on an advert I assume?) and DJ Khaled feat. Drake, Rick Ross and Lil Wayne - I'm On One makes a slightly belated #100 appearance after nearly making the top 100 a couple of weeks back. Christina Perri's newfound Heart FM airplay sees her re-enter at #59 with Jar Of Hearts. Rizzle Kicks - Down With The Trumpets re-enters at #99 and some usual weekend effect suspects also re-enter: David Guetta feat. Rihanna - Who's That Chick? at #94 and Bruno Mars - Grenade at #95. Perhaps unfairly because of the aforementioned revert yesterday, both Beyoncé and Coldplay are 'double dropouts' today - the latter is actually a triple dropout as the single version of Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall, its B-Side Major Minus and unrelated song Clocks all vanish, while Beyoncé drops out with I Was Here and If I Were A Boy. To account for the other 4 of the 9 top 100 entries, U2, Queens Of The Stone Age, Two Door Cinema Club and Lady GaGa also have entries leave the top 100 today.

Oooh. Christina Perri at #59. What's it doing so high? Is it FINALLY getting an official release?

#043 Snoop Dogg ft. T-Pain 'Boom'

#057 Chase & Status ft. Tinie Tempah 'Hitz'

#059 Christina Perri 'Jar of Hearts'

#063 Chipmunk ft. Trey Songz 'Take Off'

#075 Tinie Tempah ft. Wiz Khalifa 'Till I'm Gone'

#126 Laidback Luke & Steve Aoki ft. Lil Jon 'Turbulence'

#136 Eminem 'Space Bound'

#152 Friendly Fires 'Hawaiian Air'

'Turbulence' - I heard it again on R1 earlier and found it on iTunes - with a supposed release date of May 2011; although Dev said it was released 24 July - perhaps that's it's official/remix EP release.

For those that haven't heard it - I'd highly recommend - it has an incredible drop and serves for tough competition with Example, Nero and DJ Fresh for the 'dance' track of the Summer.

Turbulence is doing better than I expected. Steve Aoki seems to be a walking flop machine.

I should probably listen to it, I LOVED I'm In The House and Brrrat!

Turbulence is AMAZING. It's number 16 on my chart but it'll certainly get higher  If you loved 'Brrrat!' you'll love this. I only heard Turbulence a few days ago, but it's got an amazing beat and Lil Jon actually ADDS to the song (normally he doesn't but he's good in this song) I haven't bought the song because it came on a compilation I bought today - and the radio edit is a bit short. I hope it does well but if 'Brrrat!' flopped even with AVH's name on it this will get nowhere sadly. :( :(

Radio 1 might not be bothering with it but somebody is! I've heard it so many times in the past few days.

Some of those songs you wouldn't expect to be on a heart playlist such as on the floor and who's that chick. I don't think it's necessary that they had to add non-rap to california gurls on the playlist, I think everyone knew already that it would be the non rap version

So pleased for Ms Perri, hope she gets airplay from Radio 1 as well, then when it gets a bit bigger Capital will be on board ^_^ JOH is gorgeous, deffo deserves to be a hit! She's number 2 on Aussie iTunes as well btw :o

EDIT:  Mr Saxobeat on Heart? Pmsl, they'd NEVER play that (or OTF or WTC for that matter) on Heart Bristol

They have their own crap edit of On The Floor which they keep playing, which they've clearly made themselves as it still features tiny bits of Pitbull speaking in the intro, plus the places in the song that it cuts is very poor and obvious. There's an official non-rap version available with an extra J.Lo middle 8, I don't understand why they don't just play that!

But indeed, the fact that they play that, Who's That Chick and Mr Saxobeat at all are a very welcome change from the streams of Adele and Bruno Mars and assorted MOR all day every day.

Heart now have 4 Adele songs on their playlist. :drama:

That said, that playlist doesn't reflect what I hear on Heart tbh. I've never heard Grenade, Who's That Chick?, Set Fire to the Rain, I Want You, Perfect or Nobody's Perfect on there before, and I listen to Heart a lot. And I've only heard Firework and On the Floor on there once.

Set Fire to the Rain and I Want You are new though, so I can understand not having head them yet. They're the sort of songs Heart will love, so they'll be on there all the time in the future.

I did hear Jar of Hearts on there though. Again, only once so far, but they mentioned Glee when they played it aswell! :o

They have a self made edit of I Gotta Feeling aswell, where they basically play a 60-second clip of the song 3 times. I don't quite see the point. They could be trying to avoid the rapping in I Gotta Feeling, but with On the Floor, as you said, there's a ready-made edit that does that. The time I heard On the Floor on Heart, I only caught the end of the song, but I did notice the chorus seemed to be longer. The chorus, bridge and introduction are Heart-friendly, but the verses are quite "sharp", so perhaps they're trying to cut some of it out and have more of the Stereo Love-esque bits of the song in.

Forget You is still on Heart's playlist  although admittedly that is a little bit more up to date than a few months ago

I Gotta Feeling was on their playlist for 18 months aswell, I think. Bad Romance is still on there too. It's a bit ridiculous. I believe they can play whatever music they want at the end of the day, but they seem to think the word "variety" means "We play songs from different decades next to each other".

They play Forget You WAAAAAAAY too much. And part of the annoying thing about their overplay of Forget You is that I didn't even hear them play it until like 2 months after it got to #1.

But as I was saying earlier, I don't think the playlist represents what gets played on there much, at least not to me. I've never, ever heard Who's That Chick? on there, yet I heard Empire State of Mind on there multiple times a day, and that's not on the playlist.

Also, I went on rant a few weeks ago how Heart seem to start playing older songs again if they get sampled (with regards to Show Me Love and Return of the Mack, and various incidents last year). I look at their recently played songs, and see "Nu Shooz - I Can't Wait". I bet they would NOT be playing that if Mann didn't sample it.
