July 5, 201114 yr a re-released album shouldn't be allowed. I think Dog Man Star should be allowed then...... Edited July 5, 201114 yr by HUMOURless
July 6, 201114 yr I don't think Ellie will be nominated, it's just as Suedehead pointed out, if people are willing to bet on it then a bookmaker will (rightly) let them, no matter how pointless. I do hope James Blake is nominated, is Bombay Bicycle Club 'Flaws' eligible or was it released just before cut off last year. If it is, I really hope it's nominated. If not, then why the hell wasn't it nominated last year?! The Joy Formidable and Friendly Fires haven't been mentioned yet, two excellent albums there! Wu Lyf perhaps? I hope Arctic Monkeys aren't as I think it's pretty poor, certainly worse than their previous three. I quite like Beady Eye but again I'd rather it wasn't.
July 6, 201114 yr Author The BBC album was released in August so it is eligible. It would be good to see The Joy Formidable on the list as well. Much as I like the new Arctics album I agree that it isn't up to the standard of the first two (but better than the third).
July 6, 201114 yr Chase and Status should be nominated but anyone else than PJ winning it would make the whole thing laughable (once again)

July 7, 201114 yr Surely adele will win this prize this year. I dont understand this. Why should she win?
July 7, 201114 yr Adele won't win This was like when Amy Winehouse was up for back to black. Because she had the top selling album, everyone assumed she had to win. No, the mercury prize doesn't work like that. She will likely be nominated but mercury prize don't go by commericial success. If any award Adele will win for 21 will likely be Album of the year at the grammys next year. Edited July 7, 201114 yr by David John
July 7, 201114 yr Author As I said in the first post I suspect they may feel that they have to included Adele in the nominations but I don't think she'll win. If she is nominated, watch out for another show-stealing performance to propel a song up the charts.
July 7, 201114 yr Usually the Mercury goes for the uknown or not-so-high-profile and rarely awards the most noticeable (Franz Ferdinand and Artic Monkeys are a few exceptions).
July 7, 201114 yr Usually the Mercury goes for the uknown or not-so-high-profile and rarely awards the most noticeable (Franz Ferdinand and Artic Monkeys are a few exceptions). Not forgetting Primal Scream, Suede, M-People, Portishead, Pulp, Ms Dynamite, and Elbow. Completely unknown at the times they won.
July 7, 201114 yr I would love to see Metronomy win, have fallen in love with The English Riviera over the past few weeks. James Blake and Everything Everything should hopefully get a nod as well. As much as I love them, this Noah and the Whale album definitely should not be up there. If it gets nominated after The First Days Of Spring getting snubbed I will not be a happy bunny
July 7, 201114 yr Not forgetting Primal Scream, Suede, M-People, Portishead, Pulp, Ms Dynamite, and Elbow. Completely unknown at the times they won. Since 2000 the only little known acts you could say they've given it to were Antony & The Johnsons and Speech Debelle.Yes Arctic Monkeys and Franz Ferdinand were the biggest selling albums they'd given it to (at the time) but Badly Drawn Boy, PJ Harvey, Ms Dynamite, Dizzee Rascal, Klaxons, Elbow and The XX were all acts that anyone with any kind of musical knowledge were aware of at the time. They may not have been the most high profile in the list, but certainly not towards the bottom either.
July 7, 201114 yr Author I think Speech Debelle is the only winner I hadn't heard of when the nominations were announced. Every list contains at least one act I've not heard of but, apart from SD, they don't go on to win.
July 7, 201114 yr I dont think they should even nominate Adele's album. Whilst I'd quite like that I can't see it. If 19 was worthy of nomination then I can't see how they'd not see 21 as worthy.

If any award Adele will win for 21 will likely be Album of the year at the grammys next year. And she nearly did win, except they had the editor of the NME chairing the committee that year railroading people into voting for that godawful Klaxons album... Nonetheless, I don't think Adele will win this year either. I'll be surprised if she doesn't get nominated though.
