The nominations for the 2011 Mercury Music Prize will be announced on 19 July. Any album by a UK or Irish act released between July 2010 and July 2011 is eligible. So, what albums will be nominated?

I suspect two previous winners - PJ Harvey and Elbow - will be in the list. I hope Noah And The Whale make it. Will they be able to ignore Adele?

I'm hoping for Patrick Wolf, but I'm thinking that's unlikely :(

Honestly I can't see Elbow being nominated, regardless of the quality of Build A Rocket...

"PJ Harvey" is almost guaranteed a nomination I should think. "Emmy the Great" should also get nominated, as well as "The Vaccines". Of the Norn Iron contingent, it's possible that "...and So I Watch You From Afar" and "Mojo Fury" could get the token 'challenging rock' nomination.

I'd love to see him being nominated but, sadly, I suspect you're right :(

PJ Harvey should definitely be nominated and then should absolutely walk the whole thing if there's any justice... which of course, where the Mercury Prize is considered, is not something that is always served...

I also think they should nominate Adele, even if she shouldn't win overall.

It would be pretty hard to ignore Adele in this list, I reckon James Blake and Radiohead could be nominated, they've been very well received by critics, I hope Elbow get a nomination, but I doubt they'd win

James Blake? He might get a nod. I can't see how they can ignore Adele. Biggest album of the year plus it's a high quality album by all means! Also I'd like Katy B's On A Mission to get a nod, as it's my favourite UK album of the year thus far. PJ Harvey is a definite surely!

I'm looking at William Hill's current odds which are:

7/2 PJ Harvey

6/1 Adele

8/1 James Blake

8/1 Wild Beasts

10/1 Hurts

10/1 Anna Calvi

12/1 Noah & The Whale

14/1 Tinie Tempah

14/1 Everything Everything

16/1 Chase & Status

25/1 Jessie J

25/1 Elbow

25/1 Radiohead

25/1 British Sea Power

25/1 The Vaccines

25/1 The Unthanks

25/1 Metromony

33/1 Portico Quintet

33/1 Glasvegas

33/1 White Lies

33/1 Arctic Monkeys

33/1 Toy Horses

33/1 Kate Bush

33/1 Rumer

33/1 Ellie Goulding

33/1 Gold Panda

33/1 Mogwai

40/1 Beady Eye

40/1 The Go! Team

A lot of these don't have a hope in hell. Obviously it's wide open atm, but I'm really shocked at Jessie tbh. As a pop fan, it's by no means album of the last 12 months material (it's pretty good though), and it's probably the most 'poppy' and chart friendly album on there (Tinie's is quite 'underground' in places).

I didn't think Bush was eligible, given that it's a remix album. The Go! Team would be lovely, but I honestly can't see it myself.

These seem the most likely ones to me that I've heard... it saddens me that so few of my favourite albums from the past 12 months are actually from UK acts. I think Anna Calvi has a decent shot at the win.

I nearly mentioned Hurts. It would be good to see them nominated although I can't see them winning. I would have thought that Kate Bush wouldn't be eligible.
I was thinking Kate Bush would ineligible as well, but that's what's on the odds. If they can't even see Kate is likely ineligible then they'll probably get it totally wrong. And I thought of another thing, there's usually a random jazz act that has about 200/1 chance of winning that gets nominated as well

If people are willing to put money on an artist, then the bookies will take it. After all, they are quoting odds on Tony Blair being the next leader of the Labour Party.

Hurts is about three good songs :(

Plus Ellie Goulding shouldn't be allowed - in my opinion.

I'd love Metronomy to be nominated!

I think it'd be a shame if Noah and the Whale were nominated for this record and not their last one which was much stronger!

I think I'm the only person which thinks the latest NATW album is absolute piffle. Their last album was magnificent.

How the hell would Ellie Gooulding be eligible. Wasn't it out ages and ages ago.

PJ has got to have a nomination and will then hopefully go on to win.

I bet Anna Calvi does get a nomination even the album isn't actually much cop.

PJ Harvey looks like the obvious winner, I have no particular preferences since most of my favourite albums of the last 12 months weren't British. If Kanye were British, there would be the inevitable uproar when he doesn't win

I was anticipating it so much after loving 'The First Days of Spring', but it was a complete disappointment.

Actually the Ellie Goulding point is valid - Lights was released in March 2010. But she did have the re-release in November 2010, although (much as I love the album) it shouldn't really count.
