Bad is a jackpot.. The best pop album in history. As a concept I prefer Dangerous though..

Bad is definitely the greatest pop album ever!

Taylor Swift up to #8 now. She's climbing very fast! :o

Well duh, it's a new Taylor Swift song on the US iTunes chart. Of course it's going to climb fast.

Odd to see Chris Rene the highest of the XF entries considering he came 3rd. Looks like the winner's curse applies to the USA as well but honestly I can't see any of them doing anything major.

 4. Set Fire to the Rain - ADELE :cheer: Will be back down to #5 shortly when Taylor overtakes but still.

*waits for someone to murder Bré for spoiling who came 3rd :teresa:

I've already watched it so I don't care :P

Taylor Swift at #1! :o TOTALLY WASN'T EXPECTING THAT!!

She'll probably be out of the top 100 within two weeks (although, to be fair to her, she won't be getting any airplay with that song I think, so we can't expect it to hang around).

Actually I think it could hang around, it's for the new movie 'The Hunger Games' which isn't out until March, so it could stick around, or get boosted again in March. Perhaps it could do a 'It Will Rain' but to a lesser extent? Not that I'm keen on 'Safe & Sound', and I'm a massive fan. I think 'The Hunger Games' and Twilight have quite a crossover audience, so it's just my hunch that if a song by a very popular singer in the US on a Twilight soundtrack did really well, that this could do alright too.

A Friday release seems odd though, depends what kind of lead she gets but it might not get her a top 10 [debut] like with past singles.

It'd be nice to see Taylor Swift not predictably going straight to #1 whenever she releases a new song (or new songs) for once. Sigh. Maybe next time  I'm glad this doesn't happen in the UK where there's no airplay rule to prevent these sort of songs getting the official #1 and proceeding to drop out of the top 100 within a couple of weeks. (Not defending the airplay rule, this is just a positive side effect of it).

I've thought the same really. We don't have any artists quite as big as Lil Wayne or Taylor Swift really.

And the artists that are big in the UK, don't really release random songs unannounced like those do. People like Cheryl Cole, JLS, etc. release a song every 3 months at the most, whilst Taylor Swift and Lil Wayne just seem to have a new song out...whenever.

The closest we had to this was Lady Gaga with her promo singles.

It would also be different in the UK, since anything that would get to #1 on iTunes like that would be added to most radio playlists immediately, whilst in the US the songs can go relatively ignored (hence the free-falls). So if it did happen in the UK, I think the songs could have a bit more longevity.

It's more of the power of iTunes than those artists.. Every teenager, and I mean EVERYONE uses iTunes there so it's just natural that there are couple of acts that go #1 by default. By that you can't really tell how huge those songs will eventually become.

Neither Taylor Swift nor Lil Wayne is yet to have the biggest hit of any year, IIRC.

^ Most artists, including Lady Gaga and Rihanna haven't had the biggest hit of a year before. That's a bit much to ask for imo.

I don't think everybody uses iTunes though. A lot of teenagers use other download sites because it's cheaper, and they usually don't have as much money as adults.

And we were just saying that it doesn't happen in the UK. There don't seem to be any artists here that are as popular as Lil Wayne and Taylor Swift are in the US. Maybe Adele I guess, but she never releases anything, so we don't know if she'd go straight to #1 on iTunes or not.

New Digital Songs top 10 (+ a few others), with appropriate % gains for what I assume is the American gift card week:

1 LMFAO - Sexy And I Know It 395k (up 159%)

2 Katy Perry - The One That Got Away 297k (up 157%) [76k B.o.B version]

3 Rihanna feat. Calvin Harris - We Found Love 276k (up 86%)

4 Bruno Mars - It Will Rain 266k (up 112%)

5 Jay-Z and Kanye West - Niggas In Paris 227k (up 93%)

6 Flo Rida - Good Feeling 219k (up 74%)

7 Adele - Set Fire To The Rain 217k (up 118%) [:cheer: :cheer: :cheer:]

8 LMFAO feat. Lauren Bennett and GoonRock - Party Rock Anthem 214k (up 170%) [:drama:]

9 Big Sean feat. Nicki Minaj - Dance (A$$) 200k (up 126%)

10 Adele - Someone Like You 183k (up 109%) [:cheer:]

19 Taylor Swift feat. The Civil Wars - Safe & Sound 136k (NEW) [only 2 days of sales]

29 Nicki Minaj - Super Bass 106k (up 167%)

33 Lil Wayne - How To Love 83k (up 324%) [!]

42 Jason Aldean - Dirt Road Anthem 67k (up 146%)

LMFAO had the lowest weekly sales for the #1 in over 2 years two weeks ago - but this week they have the highest one-week sales since Born This Way's second week! What a rapid turnaround.

LMFAO definitely #1 on the Hot 100 then, with that 119k lead over Rihanna :drama: I was sort of hoping they'd miss out, they had quite a #2 run building up there.

Wow. 27 weeks in the top 10 for Party Rock Anthem!

And LMFAO must be so relieved they didn't release Champagne Showers in the US!!! :o
