July 17, 201114 yr Author Top 40 Compilation Chart: http://www.theofficialcharts.com/compilations-chart/ When available
July 17, 201114 yr Beverley Knight just about held on to a top 40 placing, disapointing as it had been #29 and #32 in all the midweeks.
July 17, 201114 yr Author Hmmm, there are a small handful of random dance songs unexpectedly re-entering at the bottom of the top 100... namely Time at #92, Miami 2 Ibiza at #95, Kickstarts at #96 and Hello at #99. Coldplay back up to 5 songs in the top 100 :D As ETIAW holds its place at #14, Fix You is 4 to #42, The Scientist 11 to #54, Viva La Vida 10 to #82 and Yellow re-entering at #98 :w00t: EDIT: All 4 of their albums climbed as well (Parachute and AROBTTH back in the top 75) :D The aforementioned re-entry of Miami 2 Ibiza puts Tinie at 3 entries again this week (as Eyes Wide Shut has dropped out) and it's the fourth week in a row a Tinie song has entered or re-entered the top 100 - Hitz, then Till I'm Gone, then Eyes Wide Shut re-entry, now Miami 2 Ibiza re-entry. He's now spent 118 cumulative weeks in the top 100 in 2011. Full top 100 updates coming soon. Edited July 17, 201114 yr by Bré

July 17, 201114 yr New peak for Caro! I never imagined she could have this sort of success in the UK. It's not sold massively but its longevity is pretty great!
July 17, 201114 yr I could see Rolling in the Deep missing the year-end top 10 now! :o Although it's got US year-end #1 in the bag tbh.
July 17, 201114 yr New peak for Caro! I never imagined she could have this sort of success in the UK. It's not sold massively but its longevity is pretty great! I bought her album yesterday. One of my best buys in recent years - haven't skipped a track yet! Kath
July 17, 201114 yr I first heard the album last April I guess and have been listening to it ever since, always thought that she had the potential to do well in the UK but being Dutch I just assumed that she wouldn't be given the chance!
July 17, 201114 yr I don't see any reason why Caro wouldn't keep climbing over the coming weeks with very little out. Are its sales increasing each week or is it just climbing by default?
July 17, 201114 yr Author I first heard the album last April I guess and have been listening to it ever since, always thought that she had the potential to do well in the UK but being Dutch I just assumed that she wouldn't be given the chance! Surely her genre would be more of a barrier than her nationality? Other mainland Europeans haven't had much trouble being big in the UK at all, it's just most of them are dance artists. July 17, 201114 yr I first heard the album last April I guess and have been listening to it ever since, always thought that she had the potential to do well in the UK but being Dutch I just assumed that she wouldn't be given the chance! The first I'd heard of her was when I heard Riveria Life - and the thing that made me listen to it is the beginning is exactly the same as Take That's 'She Said' (hidden track on The Circus). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GnYS8P7eDz8 Kath
July 17, 201114 yr Surely her genre would be more of a barrier than her nationality? Other mainland Europeans haven't had much trouble being big in the UK at all, it's just most of them are dance artists. Not really, it's the sort of genre that I knew could easily sell albums if given exposure (which I was doubtful that it would ever get, purely because Holland is the last place one thinks to look for jazz). I wasn't ever expecting her to be a big singles artist here, she's not the sort of thing that either Radio 1, Capital or the music channels would get on board with. Disappointed that Heart haven't though, I don't see what's stopping them. But yeah, we both know that dance, for whatever reason, is the exception to the rule for the most part - the only genre where Europeans do get a look in. Who was the last pop act to breakthrough from mainland Europe exactly? It's not that there's a dearth of it about - it just gets no support anymore, therefore in the eyes of the casual UK music listener, it doesn't exist :( The first I'd heard of her was when I heard Riveria Life - and the thing that made me listen to it is the beginning is exactly the same as Take That's 'She Said' (hidden track on The Circus). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GnYS8P7eDz8 Kath You're right! I hadn't noticed that until you pointed it out but I knew it sounded familiar somehow!

July 17, 201114 yr FFS! Not only does Nicki miss out on the top 10 officially, it looks like she's going to miss number 11! :arrr: #12 is the new #11! :(
July 17, 201114 yr I could see Rolling in the Deep missing the year-end top 10 now! :o Although it's got US year-end #1 in the bag tbh. According to Digital Spy a few days ago, Katy Perry was still ahead of Adele...4.12 million to Adele's 4.08 million. The fact that Adele's a non mover at 3 this week she stands a good chance of having the biggest selling single in both the UK and the US with different tracks. Not sure when the last time that happened. It almost happened with The Black Eyed Peas back in 2009 when "Boom Boom Pow" was the biggest seller in the States and "I got A feeling" was the 2nd biggest seller in the UK behind Lady Gaga's "Poker Face".
