Ooh, I actually didn't see 'Hurt' in that list the first time! That is a fantastic choice, brilliant version of the song, far better than the original. Hopefully it'll climb a bit more. 'Stan' is also a very welcome re-entry.

Emotion does not automatically = good though.

But it is a good song. I never said that was what made it good, but then again I do think it's one of the strongest elements of the fantastic song.

Emotion also does not = sadness

I'm sure songs such as Give Me Everything, Beautiful People, Born This Way, etc. conjure up emotions in some people. Just postive emotions.

I disagree that it's a good song. It may be 'good' musically but the only thing I think when I hear it is 'this is the most depressing song I've ever heard'. I can't think of any situation where you'd listen to it out of choice. I can't even give it the faint praise that it's not their worst song, because it is. I'd prefer to listen to 'Bring Me To Life' than 'My Immortal'. And I HATE 'Bring Me To Life'.

EACH TO THEIR OWN THOUGH and whatnot. Not going to deny anyone the Evanescence love because they've got to be doing something right if BMTL and MI are so popular. It's just not for me.

And 'My Immortal' conjures up negative emotions. :P

My emotions statement was just a general response to everybody. Not just now, but a lot of people seem to think only songs that make you cry, or be depressed are emotional. This was a particularly common fallacy after Adele performed at the BRITs, where half the country was in that "Wow, a meaningful song at #1" hype, but I didn't address it back then.

A lot of my friends used to hate Evanescence too. One particular thing I remember, back in the days when they were relevent, was a MASSIVE arguement at school about whether they were a Christian band or not. I was just sitting there in despair whilst everybody was getting all flustured about it thinking "Does this really matter that much?"

I think Wretch 32 has numeber one sealed, his Ep is ahead on the album chart and his lead is increasing on iTunes. Such an awful, awful single to be number one though.

I can recognise emotions in other songs, it's just sad emotions come across stronger in songs that have them, IMO.

And how could anyone think Evanescence are a Christian band? They don't seem the type, even if I have just looked up on their Wiki page and seen that they were promoted as one originally.

They seem more a spiritual or ethereal band, if you know what I mean, especially in their Fallen era.

I don't know. Some people did I guess, and they had their reasons. I don't have a clue about the whole situation. Whenever the topic came up it was one of those times I used to just switch off completely. I just remember it was a rather hot debate for some time. A lot of the 50 Cent fans in my year also hated them because they won some award which apprently 50 Cent deserved more.

They conjure up emotions, most songs do. My main point was that you can hear the emotion in her voice. I don't think you could quite say the same for the songs you listed. They're probably all singing with emotion but I don't think Give Me Everything sounds as personal to Ne-yo as My Immortal does to Amy Lee. It's hard to explain.

'My Immortal' is one of the most emotional songs of this century so far! The lyrics are just beautiful and Amy's emotive vocals are the heavy icing on the cake.

I understand what you mean. Plus, I think a lot of chart hits today use vocal effects that, whilst making the song better, at the same time probably take emotion out of the vocals.

To be honest I think you're right. I think if Ne yo sang the chorus of Give Me Everything with all the production stripped back, he'd probably sound quite emotional.

My Immortal is probably one of the most beautiful song I've ever heard, the only I can think of that tops it in those stakes is Hurt by Christina Aguilera (which is the one song that's ever made me cry real tears).

Maybe on his next solo album we'll get Give Me Everything, Part II (Broken Down).

I agree completely. Hurt is amazing.

'My Immortal' is BEAUTIFUL. My favourite song ever - totally flawless imo. I associate it with a very tough time in my late teens so I can't listen to it without getting emotional. LOVE <3

'Hurt' is also very good, but a league or two below 'My Immortal'.

I remember getting chills ALL OVER my body when I first heard it but I think Christina's over-the-top vocals in the song killed the emotion long term for me. It is still a beautiful song though. I think 'The Voice Within' is her most emotional though.

Excluding any of Leona's songs, the songs that have made me cry the most are Kelly Clarkson's 'Because Of You', Michael Jackson's 'She's Out Of My Life', Celine Dion's 'My Heart Will Go On' (especially straight after watching Titanic), Eva Cassidy's 'True Colours' and probably a few more I can't remember.

I can't actually listen to any of those 4 at the moment (other than SOOML) because I find them too emotional.

People who think that 'My Immortal' is one of the most depressing songs of the last decade just didn't hear 'Hello' from the same album. :P

I always found Hello very emotional too, My Immortal moreso as I find Hello more on the depressing side rather than just sadness.
