To say the track is within a shot at #2 or more likely #3 IS unexpected.

I was predicting the track would only get top 30 or top 20 at the very best.

Another definition of ironic is coincidental and you're telling me that their next track after their 2007 song "Makes Me Wonder" at #2, 4 years later could potentially hit #2 is NOT ironic is just being pedantic. I would also agree it is unfortunate when you look at it being so close to #1.

"Irony has several definitions. It is not the same as coincidence. For the love of all things decent, please stop mixing irony and coincidence up!"

(and yes I am being pedantic, but I wouldn't need to be if people would use the word correctly in the first place )

And it's not just being unexpected that makes something ironic - it's when it's the exact opposite of what you expected happens. For example, Flo Rida got to #2 with a song called 'Low', then he featured on The Saturday's 'Higher' which despite its title peaked lower. That's very loosely ironic. That's the only chart-related example I can think of.

Unless you are Alanis Morissette, in which case Ironic has a whole different meaning

True. But the last time I checked Adam Levine & co. and Christina Aguilera are decidedly not Alanis Morissette :kink: Aguilera's surname is almost as hard to spell though

Going to have to agree to disagree because yes I do believe it is quite ironic when a band's next hit 4 years later to chart in the top 10 could potentially hit #2, the same position of their previous top 10 hit. Or in which case it more likely enters at #3 the whole point is mute. This point especially when the album in between those 4 years couldn't even muster up a top 20 hit.

I could very easily go into the point how the word "flop" is overused nowadays but I won't go there.

Can we get back on topic of the "iTunes Chart" please :)

Overused is not the same thing as misused though :P And besides, 'flop' is a subjective description as it depends on what a person's expectations are of that particular song, while 'ironic' is not as there's a definite definition of 'irony'.

But I agree. Moving on

 66. She Will (feat. Drake) - Lil Wayne

I wonder if this could become a third top 40 hit for Lil Wayne as the lead artist next week? Probably not if 'How To Love' couldn't do it but you never know.

Already got a huge lead at #1 on the US iTunes. It's certainly possible.

Thinking about it, it has Drake featuring. Drake doesn't seem to have the best of luck in the UK. One particular recent record he featured on did quite well though. Don't need to name it I don't think :P

'6 Foot 7 Foot' and 'How To Love' also got to #1 on US iTunes (IIRC with fairly decent leads although not quite as big as that of 'She Will') but they only officially got to #71 and #48 respectively here - 'John' between the two only got to about #4 and missed the top 100 here. 'Right Above It' also got to #1 on US iTunes and #37 officially here. So it seems Lil Wayne can only get UK hits with US iTunes #1s and their longevity in the USA is directly proportional to its UK peak... in other words if 'She Will' has the staying power of 'Right Above It' in the USA it may go top 40 here

Although actually having said that 'How To Love' is having more longevity in the US top 10 than 'Right Above It' did, so maybe that theory doesn't quite hold out :P

Not 'I'm On One' I assume :kink: But 'Right Above It' went top 40 here and that was also Lil Wayne featuring Drake, so if 'She Will' does miss the top 40 I don't think Drake can be blamed :P

I hope V festival gives a couple of artists boosts :)

11. Bruno Mars - Marry You

15. Nicole Scherzinger - Wet

46. James Morrison & Nelly Furtado - Broken Strings

49. Eminem - Stan

93. Sean Kingston - Party All Night (Good little boost because of Inbetweeners)

126. The Saturdays - Notorious (This is really dropping fast)

I think California King Bed will drop out of the official top 40 this week, it's not in the top 200 on iTunes.

I think he was talking about What's My Name?

I'm hope someone performs I'm On One on the X Factor. I doubt it would happen though. :( Not to mention, it's not a song that's a good idea to perform on prime-time TV.

And in response to another one of your posts, How to Love (surprisingly) did not get to #1 on US iTunes. But it's had frightening longevity, as I'm sure you're aware! :o

And Drake is up to #58 now. Good to see him climbing. He has 3 great songs in the top 100 which I know are going to all miss the top 40. :(

Jay-Z/UGK at #106 now! A great song, but it's a bit upsetting to compare Timbaland's production on the song to his new song with Pitbull and David Guetta. :(

Bruno Mars up to #179.

Look At Me Now up to #194. It's actually climbed a LOT taking all the cheapened songs into account.

Probably the most shocking thing, Mac Miller in the top 300!!!! :cheer:

For some the entire Loud album has been deleted, I suppose it's still not back on as I'd have thought CKB would go back up to more or less where it was or maybe slightly lower pretty quickly. Same for Cheers.

I'm pretty sure it did

I think Loud may take a small tumble from the official chart come Sunday aswell, It's still not been re-added yet for some reason and downloading still takes up a decent amount of purchases. I think Cheers will not make the top 100 this week, California King bed should take a large tumble as it's not been able to download for 2 days what will be a couple of thousand downloads.

I'm pretty sure it did

Oh, it didn't! I'm certain I remember it getting there but apparently not...

I don't think so. Maybe I'm wrong. I just remember being extremely surprised that it didn't get there. And then we were all speculating as to why Lil Wayne wasn't shooting straight to #1 with every song like he used to.

I think Rihanna's album has been re-added. Cheers is in the top 300 somewhere atm.

It probably was released just as rolling in the deep was tearing up the charts over there

I had a look through the US iTunes thread and it appears to have peaked at #3! Odd, I could absolutely swear it was #1 at some point

But it did start off really slowly, I said it looked like it wasn't even going to go top 10 :kink:

Possibly. Or E.T. Both those songs had leads at some point that I don't think even Lil Wayne could've beaten.

One of his other songs missed #1 on iTunes aswell because it was released the same week as I Need a Doctor.

You can still buy CKB on itunes, it is on an Ultimate Pop Princesses album
