You must be having a laugh. All Will's studio albums have debuted at 1 or 2. Echoes will chart well.

Thats no guarantee that this is how the new album will do. If I am proved wrong though, I will gladly throw my hands up and admit it.

That's true, but it's highly unlikely you'd go from top 2 albums to even missing the top 10, especially when 1) it's not like he's got less promo support for this one and 2) you don't even need that big a fanbase to go top 10 for one week at the moment.

Will is top 5 guaranteed, probably top 3. I'd imagine Joe will go top 10 next week.

I'm no Will Young fan, but let's be honest - his new single is nothing short of fabulous - and from what I've heard of the album it sounds like it's as good throughout.
The Will Young album does sound quite good, I've heard Jealously which is my favourite song of his (I've never been a fan but it's really good) and a track they had for free download called The Way I See which is also great. Not sure I'll buy it but I think it should be top 5 even if the single flops (personally I can see it getting top 20 on the 'fanbase buy' and the album top 3, especially with how low sales are recently).
Will has a good chance at going to No 1 (Runaway should have been the lead single though). Not sure why Joe has been turned into the younger, saner version of Susan Boyle, I kind of feel sorry for him and hope he can go Top 30 at least.

Nah I do think Jealousy was better for lead single material IMO. Not that I've heard any of the other songs on the album.

I think Will has a definite shot of number 1 with the album, and the single could be a minor hit as this has a bit more hype than Hopes and Fears

Joe could go top 10 off the back of Popstar to operastar, but I don't think number 1 - I'd be amazed if people care long enough to keep it from exiting the charts in a couple of weeks

Is this even a chart battle? Will should be in top 5 potentially number 1 and I expect Joe will be between 35-40.

I think the *real* chart battle will be between Will Young and Wretch 32. Joe hasn't got a chance and he clearly doesn't sell albums (or singles) - there's just no appeal to him regardless of his talent. He'll be on Celebrity Big Brother 2012. :D

Anyways, I wouldn't be that surprised if Wretch 32 got the no. 1 album next week - he's clearly seen his fanbase increase with his first three singles progressing in peak; #5 (Traktor), #2 (Unorthodox) and now #1 (Don't Go).

On the other hand, I'd personally love to see Will Young get the no. 1 album but suspect even if he enters at #2, he'll probably drop out of the top 10 the week after. :(

Wretch 32 would be doing extremely well to get to #1. The only one of the generation of UK rappers that have been big in the singles chart since 2008 to have achieved a #1 album is Tinie Tempah. Chipmunk and Tinchy Stryder have got to #2 and Dizzee Rascal got to #3. I think Wretch could be top 3 but Adele and Nero will still be the top 2 I reckon.

I think it's silly to think that Will Young will be any lower than #3. He will only need 40k (probably less) for #1 so I would be VERY shocked if he doesn't make it. I think people underestimate him because he's not much of a single seller anymore.

Joe is an interesting one. Whilst I liked his last album, I have no interest in him anymore if this is the route he's taking. Considering it's covers and the recent exposure, the grannies could push it to low top 10 considering sales are so shite.

I really do think that Will will claim the no1 slot with Echoes, people are really buzzing about this album, lots of young blokes and girls joining in now, and blokes saying that they really like the album that have never been a fan and lots of newbies going off to buy the album, the buzz around it is huge. the reviews havent been less short of brilliant, huge buzz for this album hes picking up so many new fans all of different ages  im sure he will get no 1

Joe on the other hand, i think he will do ok, between no 5 and 10, im not particularly a fan, but he has got a great voice

Really don 't see that happening. His sales should hold steady or increase as he has his own Music Special on Saturday 27th. Wouldn't be surprised to see a few more sales for the Hits either.

will wont face a big plummet in week 2 cos of the tv special.

these are also the first week sales of his previous albums:

From Now On - 187,350

Friday's Child - 201,900

Keep On - 107,318

Let It Go - 70,806

I'm not sure how well he'll do, sales are really low at the moment, I too think Wretch 32 could be #1 as he's got the #1 single to boost his sales higher next week. I've no idea how Joe Mcelderry will do with his covers album but off the back of that opera show, he could do really well.

I'd love for Will to get #1 though, especially with it being his 10th aniversary year too.

Will no1, no doubt surely? Joe, considering the complete lack of impact of his operatstar win on his back catalogue I can see it being a short lived top40 entry.

Adele should be no2 again behind will .she's sort of unlucky with all these no2 weeks!

Well, it's safe to say almost nobody expected the outcome of this :o Okay, Will did win the battle for #1, but Joe is actually holding up better so far!

(I was a little bit off with my prediciton of an Adele/Nero/Wretch 32 top 3 )

Yes he is isnt he :) Where are all those people who said he wouldn't make Top40 and the like? Eating 5 weeks of Top 5 humble pie? :yahoo:

Just wondered if you fancied taking Joes place on Celebrity Big Brother a Joe will be busy recording his third album around then. Let me know :yahoo:

I have just read all through this thread and it makes me smile to read the various theories put forward. In the event it was Will #1, Joe #2 and then it was up and down for them both (excuse the double entendre! ).

At the moment it is Joe who is still at No.5 which is fantastic.

Both have spent 5 weeks in the top 10, with Will selling around 30k more. Joe is closing the gap but on the back of PTOS there's a ready market for an album of well known covers. I'm pleased for Joe. I'm sure Classic will sell really well in the Xmas market. Still see Echoes eclipsing it's long term sales, once more singles are released. It really is a top class album, with critical acclaim, many critics citing it as a contender for pop album of the year. :D
