Posted August 19, 201113 yr We now know Matt's new single will be titled Run For Your Life and has been written by Gary Barlow. It is the first single from his debut album Letters, to be released 17th October. So we should be hearing the single within a month I think! Edited August 19, 201113 yr by Liаm
August 19, 201113 yr After being heralded as the 'singer/songwriter' of X Factor, he gets his debut single written by Gary Barlow?
August 19, 201113 yr Author After being heralded as the 'singer/songwriter' of X Factor, he gets his debut single written by Gary Barlow? It's the only track on the album he didn't write, bizarrely. There are quite a few albums like that though, mostly self written bar one track (which is often the lead, and in turn biggest, single).
August 19, 201113 yr I'm disappointed that he didn't write it :( nonetheless, he says his music is like Coldplay and Snow Patrol, if so, I VERY much approve :D I'm unsure whether he'll be a big success or a flash in the pan yet, but I do really want to hear his material
August 19, 201113 yr I am keeping an open mind about his material because he has a decent voice, but as a person I really dislike him and his attitude. There are few things I dislike more than music snobbery and saying you can shit all over a song [The Climb] because 'only children like it' (which in itself isn't true) and then saying you can't do it to a Biffy Clyro song because they are a 'hugely credible band' really infuriates me. Music isn't judged by how WORTHY it is, at least not by me or the majority of the music buying public. Edited August 19, 201113 yr by Johnkilometre
August 19, 201113 yr I am keeping an open mind about his material because he has a decent voice, but as a person I really dislike him and his attitude. me too. his personality on the x factor was less than impressive, but I'm quite looking forward to seeing what he comes out with, and more importantly, if it does better than joe's lead single (that shouldn't be too hard :kink:). I still think he was a decent winner, and thank god that he won over rebecca. :puke:
August 19, 201113 yr I never thought he was the slightest bit smug/cocky/attitudey on the show to be honest. I can't help but feel Buzzjack just thought that because he was a male popstar without the twink factor.
August 19, 201113 yr I do think they're going to have a harder time marketing him than the likes of Olly Murs/JLS/Cher Lloyd, but the first single should be a decent hit with an X Factor performance and I imagine the album should sell quite well over Xmas too.
August 19, 201113 yr I never thought he was the slightest bit smug/cocky/attitudey on the show to be honest. I can't help but feel Buzzjack just thought that because he was a male popstar without the twink factor. Neither did I, but I did fancy the pants off him so I would probably have overlooked it
August 19, 201113 yr Album artwork: http://img148.imageshack.us/img148/4831/mcpackshotsmall.jpg There is also a 2 Disc version with acoustic re-workings of five tracks and some apparant confirmed tracks: "Amazing" "Starlight" "Letters" "All For Nothing" "Run For Your Life" "When We Collide" And some info on some of the songs: Matt Cardle announced the name of his debut album on August 18 2011. 'Run For Your Life' is described as containing a collection of guitar riffs and string sections, "reminiscent of Snow Patrol's biggest hits". Cardle explained that 'Starlight' is "a depressing happy song about the insignificance of everything", while 'Amazing' is "about finding someone when you've got no-one". He also co-wrote 'All For Nothing' with Adele collaborator Eg White. Cardle said: "I recorded it after a couple of cups of tea and a few cigarettes so it's quite raw." Title track 'Letters' is described as sounding reminiscent to Coldplay's 'Fix You', with Cardle employing a "Chris Martin-styled falsetto". Lyrics in the chorus include: "Send a message to my heart." August 19, 201113 yr To be honest, it might just do with the fact that I find his face so irritatingly punchable!
August 19, 201113 yr I reckon this will do alright, does seem odd that he's not written the lead single when the rest of the album is self-penned but if it's Gary Barlow it'll probably be pretty good. He should do okay, you can't really fail with Syco's full backing. They obviously realised quickly that Leon/Joe weren't going to be stars (at least not as a recording artist, in Joe's case) so they didn't throw their full weight behind them. I'd be surprised if that happened with Matt.
August 19, 201113 yr I do think they find it harder to market the male winners compared to the female winners somehow. Steve Brookstein - an old crooner, embarrassing, like watching your dad do karaoke. Shayne Ward - nothing remotely special to him whatsoever, did well to last 3 albums though. Leon Jackson - useless, they've tried to forget he existed since his win. Joe McElderry - good singer, however never had what it takes to cut the mustard as a popstar and can't command a stage to save his life. Matt is the first decent male winner, I do agree so I hope he can deliver the goods and actually be the first male winner to carve a decent career. Edited August 19, 201113 yr by Silver Rocket
August 19, 201113 yr OOH LOOK AT HOW INDIE AND ALTERNATIVE AND CREDIBLE IT ALL LOOKS. COS HE'S REALLY INDIE AND COOL AND STUFF YEAH? NOT LIKE ALL THAT POP SHIT YOU'D EXPECT YEAH? INDIE YEAH? That is the attitude I am taking with him, and I am sticking with it.
August 20, 201113 yr I'm looking forward to this actually - I really loved his voice on the X Factor. Do we know when the album is out? Might have to put that one on my Christmas list :D
August 20, 201113 yr Oh sorry I misread that - I assumed that was when the single was being released!
August 20, 201113 yr I'm curious what material he'll come out with but he was one of my least favourite out of the final 12 (or however many there were in the end.) I don't think he'll be one of those who manages to last past one album tbh.
