I really wouldn't be surprised if the new single announcement is merely them stating that there'll be one released around the same time as the tour starts, which will presumably be early-mid next year.

I'll be surprised if they have any proper new material out by xmas, it would drown in the market anyway.

This album is still doing well on Amazon pre-orders and it's 4th for next week on Play.com, ahead of new albums from Cliff Richard, Katherine Jenkins and Bjork...it will get a lot of casual sales if supermarkets stock it, which I'm sure they will. Plus they're releasing it presumably just a few days after a tour announcement and with the promo of the TV show itself for another couple of weeks.

I'd initially seen a 58-OUT chart run for this but it's going to do far better than that :o

Take That has set a massive target for anyone reuniting. No one has come near them at all in terms of fans, sales, albums, tours, pretty much everything since they came back in 2005, but i do think this Steps collection could sell over 100k and do well over Christmas, maybe top 5 depending on the release date and competition that week...

could anyone help with where I could get a list of their sales for each single??

Good site actually :) Who would have guessed One For Sorrow was their second biggest seller? :o

Those sales figures are really old, surely some of them have sold more since? the BPI website lists OFS, BBF and SYBM/BTDYK all being certified gold and After The Love Has Gone was certified silver, shouldnt their sales be over 400k and 200k? or do they base it off shipments like they do in the US?

Heartbeat/Tragedy really was huge wasn't it! Surprised to see Better Best Forgotten as their third highest selling single :o

I wonder why Buzz only sold half of Steptacular? I expect a 4th album would have sold even less, the UK was sort of getting over that sound by 2002, certainly by 2003 so even though the split wasn't in the best of circumstances it was better to go out on top than fade out. Makes a reunion easier to do at least.

I'm more disgusted that 'The Way You Make Me Feel' sold so little! But it's one of their most memorable hits?! The albums sales are surprising though :o

Oh and looking at that site makes me wish there was a site like that, where it was easy to get overall sales and information for all my favourite artists haha. :(

It's easy to forget how big they were, I was looking at the chart run for Steptacular earlier and had completely forgotten that it had 4 weeks at #1, all in the busy xmas season! Also on its second week at #1 it somehow managed to hold off a new entry from Westlife with their debut album, and Westlife were HUGE in 1999, I still find it surprising that their debut never topped the album charts!

Im delighted better best forgotten is among their biggest sellers as it was and still is a fave of mine, had it been released as 2nd or third single it would have sold more as by the time of its release the album had sold well.

Pop acts like Steps in general arent great album sellers but steps managed to break that trend, their uk album sales are very impressive, im glad step one is their biggest seller as i think it is their best album, while in my opinion they never made a bad album (if you like that style of music) but for me buzz wasnt as good.

I hope their comeback is successful as i genuinly feel the charts need an all out pop band back in the charts, i hope the ultimate collection does well as if it does i would think it would heighten the chances of them doing a brand new album. I think paradise lost could have been added to the ultimate collection though as overall it seems quite a big fan fave and it was never released as a single.

If we're talking quality of the albums:

10 Buzz

07 Steptacular

06 Step One

The highs on both of the first albums are very high but some of the album tracks are genuinely unlistenable crap.

From CelebBritain;

Steps are to perform for the first time since splitting, during a 'This Morning' Takeover.

The five-piece band, currently promoting their Steps Reunion show will become the first band completely take over the programme, on Monday 10th October - the same day that their new Greatest Hits Collection hits the shops.

In a first for the daytime show, band members Claire, H, Lee, Lisa and Faye will be involved in each item... so Claire could be putting her Masterchef skills to the test in the kitchen whilst Lee puts viewers through their paces, with his new found personal training skills.

Lisa told Celebritain.com "We haven't told anyone about this yet. It's so exciting. We're taking over and no band have ever been on the whole programme for the duration before".

"The best bit is that we'll be performing to songs as well. It's the first time we'll have performed together since we split in 2001. "We'll be joining in with the various segments, hanging out in the hub and getting involved in everything that's going on".

"It's quite difficult as well because Claire and H are both working away on tour at the moment, Lisa lives in dubai, but we've come together for this documentary and album and we don't know what's next".

One thing the band have ruled out though, is Eurovision. "I understand why people expect us to do it, especially as Blue came back and did it but I don't think it was really a great thing for them to do" said Lisa. "We really like the boys but we won't be doing that. We need to wait and see how this greatest hits album goes down and only then will we talk about the future of Steps and whether we'll be doing any new material".

I'll be at work, damn!

I didn't see this posted anywhere - 30 second clip of Dancing Queen -

Although i do like some abba songs, dancing queen is one of my least faves, everyone that covers it it still sounds the same and unfortunaly this Steps version doesnt add anything new at all to it. That aside episode 2 of the documentary is on tonight and im looking forward to it.
It's always difficult to cover a classic, very few people are ever going to be pleased with the result.
