September 3, 201113 yr Slick is entitled to an opinion obviously, but maybe they do have expectations that are too high? in my comment, i kinda alluded to the slightly dodgey start, but in a positive way, i.e. it 'kicked in from the chorus'... anyway, this is a different kinda song... difficult to perform live... not too many 'dance acts' would do that live!!! it aint a big ballad, so she was clearly not expecting the 'OMG her voice is sooo stunning' kinda praise, but actually, from the first chorus her voice was pretty stunning!!! Leona gets enough arsey comments on all the other forums, perhaps on the leona forum we could just be glad that she has consistently maintained her live vocals to a standard that very few artists could ever achieve? :-) BTW dont wanna sound preachy, or take anything away from people expressing opinions, but '... woulda been better if...' comments would be more useful in a negative post surely? that way there's something constructive to back up the comment, rather than just negativity on a forum that is kinda here to support an artist!?!?!

First of all, this forum isn't here "to support an artist" at all. Lots of people are under that misconception and it's not at all true. It's here for people to share their views on an artist and as long as those are constructive then all views should be welcome. But I appreciate that your post is just trying to decrease any uneccessary negativity so what you have to say is fair enough. I'll try to be a bit more constructive. If Leona's vocals were better that would've been a much better performance - in my opinion that's one of the weakest vocal performances I've seen her give and that's probably due to the song being quite difficult to sing. It would also help if she was a bit more active/mobile during a performance if dance is a sound she's experimenting with since she can't limp around the stage and expect to be praised when her peers are doing it much better. I'm all for experimenting with this sound but so far she's not delivered with the music or the performance. Those are all my opinions btw, don't shoot!
September 3, 201113 yr Author Oh I disagree, I think she was miles away from smashing it. Compared to ANY performance of 'Bleeding Love' or 'Run' that was very average. Like I say it wasn't terrible - it just wasn't good considering what she's capable of. She smashed it for me. :) It's a very tough song to sing and must be hard to get the balance right when performing. It's a dance song so she has to move about but all those belts have to be sustained which moving will effect. To nail the vocals whilst still moving and giving energy to the performance can't be described as average IMO. Other female singers would kill to give a performance like that.

September 3, 201113 yr Jesus christ some of you over exaggerate to one slightly negative post towards Leona on here. Like, seriously. I was disappointed, like Slick, when I started watching the performance (the first verse is quite possibly the worst I've ever heard Leona), but from the first chorus onwards, she felt in her element and made it look so effortless (like many have said already!) She actually looked and sounded the most comfortable when she was hitting the high notes. The verses looked a little awkward, but I was expecting that tbh. Very good performance (only really let down by the first verse) I thought. Hopefully she has this battle sewn. (Although I'm thinking it'll be a Pixie number 1)
September 3, 201113 yr Well personally I'm rooting for All Fired Up but I would really like Leona to beat Pixie. AAT got boring fast, like Collide, but now I'm growing to love Collide again
September 3, 201113 yr What a NAFF peformance The whole briefcase thing may have been some element within the gameshow but talk about JARRING with the songs lyrics and generally not making any sense to the performance. All those dancers seemed to be dancing for the sake of dancing like they were at a competition and Leona looked like the one sober girl at a disco who's never been out before.

I am probably under a 'misconception' of support in a 'leona lewis forum', but its only coz im a lover not a hater, lol... not suggesting anyone is a hater by the way! I do see your point with the vocal critique, coz it wasnt perfect to begin with... i do think she nailed some of the bigger notes tho... she is in a difficult position tho... if she had led with a big ballad, she coulda given a performance like run or bleeding love, but then suddenly the vocals would be (conveniently) forgotten and she'd be criticised for doin the same old thing! ive said it before, i honestly dont think she can win... with success come haters i guess!!! Again, only opinions, and id never shoot a leona fan :-P hehe PS. thanks for the reply Slick, coz i really didnt mean to suggest that you were being too negative, or that i had anything against you stating your opinion... i have a couple of glasses of wine, so find it a bit more difficult to make my posts make sense as the evening goes on (a couple of glasses doesnt sound much, but u should see the size of my wine glass!!! :-D) Edited September 3, 201113 yr by AMO
September 3, 201113 yr Her voice sounded fantastic on the chorus, but I agree with those who think her voice wasn't as strong on the lower sections of the song. Plus the performance was a bit bland, she moved her hips and walked. I was hoping for a bit more choreography, I must admit.
September 3, 201113 yr Author Maybe I'll give it a rewatch now that I know not to expect too much. I do sometimes have overly high expectations of my favourite singers. I know what you mean. When you're expecting a song to sound a certain way it always sounds a bit strange at first live. Re-watching on Youtube definitely helps.
September 4, 201113 yr I hope her next performance will be MUCH better. It is the first time I've ever listened to Leona singing so shaky :o During the first verse I honestly though she could drop out of tempo (or even skip some lyrics) every second. The biefcase-ritual dance was a parody as well. And she was standing in the middle doing some not-fiting moves (the best way I can say it) ! Thank god the chorus did sound good (and refreshingly different from the single version) but her stage performance was weak... I really hope they kept all the good stuff and choreography for XF and they replaced it with the game-themed ridiculous rountines... The good thing is that it was her first upbeat appearence so she should be more comfortable next time. Plus she was beautiful and really different from the cliche Leona we were used to. All in all I didn't honestly feel this was a Leona-class performance. (I do not think I will ever watch it again)
September 4, 201113 yr You know, I hope she uses her lower range more on the album. I really like it.
September 8, 201113 yr I may be very behind the times here, but I've just seen this performance and vocals aside when the FUDGE did Leona become so attractive? Did it happen overnight?

September 8, 201113 yr Many people think she's had a minor nose job, which has probably contributed to it.
September 8, 201113 yr I may be very behind the times here, but I've just seen this performance and vocals aside when the FUDGE did Leona become so attractive? Did it happen overnight? She really is looking hotter & hotter! I think she won back in 2006, and we've seen her grow up over the years, she's just becoming a grown woman I think and just experimenting with new style and hair and everything, she's just looking great! On top of that she is looking so fit, her health & fitness regime must be spot on!
September 9, 201113 yr But I swear she used to look like a horse? The same thing's happened with Rochelle from The Saturdays. It's ODD
September 9, 201113 yr Author She did look great on Red Or Black but I do think she looks the best she's ever looked in the Collide video.
