Should've been:

01 Born This Way

02 The Edge Of Glory

------album release----- (Heavy Metal Lover and Bloody Mary promo singles)

03 Hair (WW) / You & I (US)

04 Judas

05 Marry The Night

Not personally what I'd go for out of my opinion, just what I think would do best (promo singles aside, I went for my two faves not down for a single release as they don't really matter as such).

This reaches 100 million Youtube views. Iconic video and self-directed

Why are people even under the impression Judas should've been a single? It didn't even do well as a pre-album single. :(
Now Marry The Night is the only single released by Gaga that has failed to crack the Top 10 on the US :(

I've changed my mind.

1. Born This Way - Has to be first single

2. Marry The Night - Would do fantastic if it was a pre-album single

(Judas + Bloody Mary as promo singles)

3. You And I (US) / Hair (Worldwide) - YAI obviously did well in the US and Hair is very radio friendly for the whole world!

4. Edge of Glory - Would still do well as a post album single, released in November with a fantastic video and XF performance

5. Scheisse - has Spring hit written all over it!

6. Americano - has Summer hit written all over it!

Hindsight is a wonderful thing. It's ridiculous to start going on about what the record company should have done and how you'd have done better etc. when we all know how all the songs performed. I'm sure the release strategy seemed perfectly fine at the time, and most people would have agreed.
True hindsight is great and they would have picked a strategy they thought would work best, sometimes these strategies work better than others, while the strategy for born this way hasnt been as good as the fame/fame monster it at the same has worked but just not to the same level, but with the first era doing so so so well it was always in my eyes almost unbeatable.

The shoes Lady Gaga wore in 'Marry The Night' are now displayed at the Fashion Institute of Technology in NYC.

Lady Gaga's "Marry The Night" performance at the 2011 EMAs in Belfast is the BEST EMA MOMENT (#1 of the Top 20)! Her performance got 1,116,015 votes (more then 44% of the entire votes), leaving Robbie Williams in the 2 spot!

The voting closed today's morning, and we've done it monsters!

Billboard labels Marry The Night as a 5th single that became a classic

Last week, Chart Beat dove into the strategy behind the five single releases from Ariana Grande's second album, My Everything, as fifth single "One Last Time" continues to scale various charts. In a follow-up tweet, the question was posed to you: What other songs released as fifth singles from albums went on to become classics?

Gloria Estefan & Miami Sound Machine, "1-2-3"

Fergie, "Clumsy"

Genesis, "In Too Deep"

Genesis, "Never a Time"

Debbie Gibson, "Staying Together"

Gin Blossoms, "Until I Fall Away"

Ariana Grande, "One Last Time"

Janet Jackson, "Let's Wait Awhile"

Janet Jackson, "Come Back to Me"

Lady Gaga, "Marry the Night"

Don Henley, "New York Minute"

Whitney Houston, "Love Will Save the Day"

Full list can be found in the article: http://www.billboard.com/articles/columns/...direction=false

Marry The Night is officially my fave ever by Gagz. It's so unrivalled and makes me sad that it flopped.
Agreed. So far it's the only Gaga song I've liked to the level of ~having an emotional connection~ with it.

Gaga was my absolute fave in 2008-2011 and a lot of that material (though more TF/TFM than BTW) hasn't aged well, but this is stunning, one of my all time favourites (by anyone I mean; it's definitely my favourite from her). I'm still not sure if Garibay is actually a particularly good producer, nor did he seem like what anyone wanted back then, but he is what makes it still stand out and sound really fresh. With hindsight the single choices from this album could've been improved but I'm just impressed they managed to stretch 5 hits out of such an existing fanbase-limited album.

I also just realised that the intro sounds similar to Ariana Grande's 'One Last Time', which is probably why I never thought that sounded like much of a chart hit.

Random comparison, but no... most definitely not.

it was the fifth single from 'Britney' (i think?), so i'm guessing that's where the comparison is.

MTN is my all time favourite GAGA track. so emotional yet so intense and mighty, I can't be the only one who would of preferred the original singles run of Marry The Night as the album's lead single instead of Born This Way. It's Dance in the Dark's hot older sister. Plus the video is flawless.

OMG skipped 5 mins into the video and it still hasn't started!!

That was (is) the problem with the Gagz. No one's hurr for that.

One of her very very best <3 the perfect album opener and probably should have been ERA opener too as the lead single.

I remember when the instrumental leaked, i fell in love with the song from that moment. Seriously, listen to the production throughout it'd just sublime. And then the LYRICS <33

Marry The Night is one of the best song/video combos ever for me.

The song is all kinds of elegant, thundering, epic amazingness. Her voice is stunning (as always) and the way it builds to that final chorus makes me weak at the knees. It is literally perfect.

Also, I couldn't imagine any of her peers attempting a song like this. There's a certain kind of maturity in the sound here that's so unlike anything else even she's done before or since.

As for the video, I know some people don't like the introduction, but I do. There's some really striking imagery in there and it builds perfectly to those incredible, crunching synths. Gives me goosebumps. The dance sequence is great, the outfits are gorgeous and it just fits the song down to the ground.

I'm not sure I can come up with any more adjectives to describe how I feel about Marry The Night. It's a f***ing masterpiece.
