March 1, 201213 yr Author Well I have no idea who this Engelbert person is! Wish we could send someone like Corinne Bailey Rae, I think she'd do great!
March 1, 201213 yr DEFINITELY Engelbert Humperdink or Shirley Bassey from all those clues then. I pray to god it's Bassey, I could just about tolerate her. If not, COME BACK ATOMIC KITTEN ALL IS FORGIVEN  Blatantly the Hump though...
March 1, 201213 yr Author "Engelbert Humperdinck". Name ALONE says NOTHING GOOD will come out of it. Exactly what I thought!
March 1, 201213 yr Someone who is a very good singer, dressed in a tux singing something written by the same person who wrote 'Someone Like You'... would that REALLY be WORSE than Atomic Kitten?!
March 1, 201213 yr For those of you who don't know, he's an old singer (must be nearing 80 by now) who sings 'traditional' pop. As Rich has said, his career peaked literally 50 years ago.
March 1, 201213 yr Author Someone who is a very good singer, dressed in a tux singing something written by the same person who wrote 'Someone Like You'... would that REALLY be WORSE than Atomic Kitten?! YES! :P I can't really say, I've never heard him sing!
March 1, 201213 yr Engelbert Humperdinck. I'm sorry, I just can't stop laughing at the name. Not passing judgement yet though.
March 1, 201213 yr Someone who is a very good singer, dressed in a tux singing something written by the same person who wrote 'Someone Like You'... would that REALLY be WORSE than Atomic Kitten?! I'm going to keep an open mind until I've heard the track. If it's an amazing song then I'll probably be p*ssed that it isn't Adele singing it or whatever, but I could realistically see him doing very well with the juries. Would be too bizarre to have Engelbert bringing the contest back to the UK, I just couldn't envisage him winning somehow, but he could come top five if the song is really decent, which it sounds like it could be with the credentials behind it. Trying to make the most out of a bad situation here
March 1, 201213 yr 2PLRoIbBJfo It's just really not my thing is all, old style pop. I guess I will have to reserve judgement until we hear the song but I won't hold my breath for it being that great.
March 1, 201213 yr A thought in bad taste perhaps but if he was to get ill or worse during now and the end of May, perhaps a close friend of the songwriters (Adele/James Morrison himself?) would step in at the last minute to sing it instead. Adele could sing the alphabet for the UK and win, I seriously believe that.
March 1, 201213 yr Is it bad that I scrolled down, saw Release Me and instantly thought of Agnes? The song should hopefully be a little more up to date than that, one would hope. Would certainly do rather well, maybe even with the public too. Getting the pensioners on our side for the contest could score us another top ten hit? Please?
March 1, 201213 yr Engelbert to get a bigger UK hit single in 2012 than Madonna? Sounds like a worldwide iTunes SMASH, surely the next Fairytale/Satellite!
March 1, 201213 yr Just checked on Polyhex and 'Release Me' seems like it was the 'I Gotta Feeling' of '67!! 39-23-12-4-2-{1}-1-1-1-1-1-2-5-8-11-15-21-19-23-29-31-36-33-26-41-33-35-34-38-40-45-42-43-37-39-33-31-32-33-37-41-37-34-33-36-33-32-31-31-33-35-47-40-46-50-50->56 OMG!
March 1, 201213 yr I'm familiar with 'Release Me' (well, part of it at least) as it's the theme song to the first series of The Fast Show. For that he can live. Apparently there's two different people called Engelbert Humperdinck that are notable enough for a Wikipedia page
March 1, 201213 yr On 1 march 2012 Humperdinck was confirmed as United Kingdom Eurovision Song Contest Entrant with the song entitled Celebrate The Night. He will will perform automatically in the final on May 26th because the UK is a member of the big 5. Grammatically iffy, but another rumour nontheless (it's from Wiki though so likely bullshit).
March 1, 201213 yr Celebrate The Night? Sounds like an abomination, Engelbert goes uptempo, who will that appeal to?
