 8. Cannonball - Damien Rice :w00t:

This should chart somewhere is the low 50s/high 60s tomorrow then before shooting up to the top 10 next week. Hopefully it can repeat what Make You Feel My Love and Fast Car did and go all the way to #4. :D

OMG I almost want to cry! Damien Rice is my favourite singer and O is my fave album and it always annoyed me that he never had a top 10 single (the million selling album made up partly for that). this would be mental!!!!!

Me 2!!! I a HUGE fan of both of his albums... what about new album or something??? and I can't be more happy for him!!!

his second album disappointed me, but then O is such a perfect album i expected 9 not to live up to the expectation.

he does need to release a third album. i have all the live albums and b-sides album he has released but the only thing he has recorded recently is two songs with Melanie Laurent - both amazing songs mind you

It's a bit of a bizarre coincidence that Damien Rice should make the top 10 for the first time just 3 weeks after a song name-checking him made the top 10.

Even more bizarre given that A) Damien hasn't released anything in 4 years and B) both songs involved made the top 10 more than a year after their original release (8 years in Damien's case, 2 for Ed).

The second album indeed is disappointing but it's still good... O is one of the greatest albums of the last 20 years so... you know... it's hard. I hope the new album will be perfect... I missed him so much.

weirdly after watchin that performance i decided to get my damien rice playlist on my ipod on the go. so many amazing songs. i noticed the reference in the ed sheeran song. i always wondered with 'O' whether it could have been even bigger with promotion. a million copies on word of mouth is somethin that doesnt happen very often

Also due to XF:

81. Love You I Do - Jennifer Hudson

I wonder why so many XF auditionees perform JHud songs? 'One Night Only', 'And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going' and now this.

EDIT: And as Eric said, Damien Rice is now #5 :cheer: He'll be #4 imminently as there's nothing in it between 4 & 5 and hopefully he can get top 3. I don't think he'll quite match the #4 of MYFML and Fast Car but I reckon he could get to #5 or 6 next week.

I heard Jennifer Hudson, herself, will appear on X Factor in a few weeks aswell.

OMG at Damien Rice being in the top 10, I absolutely ADORE that track and album.

*splutter* at Cannonball. He wasn't THAT amazing.

I do like Cannonball though, so good to see it suddenly rise. But the speed...

its a shame that 'The Blowers Daughter' didnt get this effect when Diana Vickers performed it. i demand someone sing that next week so we can have two Damien Rice songs in the top 10....
The guy who sang Love You I Do was so average. I geniunely had to watch J-Hud perform it to remind myself it wasn't that bad in reality

I think Cannonball is just the sort of song that would have this much effect regardless of the quality of the actual performance. I don't know, it's just something about the song itself. I had a feeling it'd go top 10 after hearing the performance.

the chart rules when cannonball was first released ruined its chart run - it was actually disqualified one week because it increased its sales by more than 5%. so at least now it will give the song the extended chart run it fully deserves.

Hey it's Ant :D (I think? Herbie from Cool Clarity?)

We should get both Herbs and trampy trev to reunite upon hearing the news that Damien Rice is heading for the UK top 10 with 'Cannonball'. It's like we've gone back in time to Cool Clarity circa 2004.

Well, when he said he was singing Cannonball, I thought 'He does look like the type who'd sing it'. And it is one of those tracks. It might be the MORish aspect, but I mean in a good way. I'd like to say it has high elasticity (business term), but that's not quite the same. What I mean is, it'll get more sales from a performance than the average song would. Like MYFML. Whereas something like Avril's Smile gets very few sales after a performance compared to an average song, so that's inelastic.

But then that's normally used for price changes, not volume of sales. Someone more skilled at economics will come along and tell me I'm getting my terms wrong.
