Such a shame 'Hard' is her lowest-charting official single. :(

Definitely my favourite Rihanna song, one of my favourite songs EVER!

Was 'Man Down' an actual release here though? Apart from the urban stations (like Radio 1Xtra, Kiss etc...) and urban tv channels etc, I don't think it got pushed as a proper single. Which is why it missed the top 40. Had it received Radio 1/Capital support, I think it could have been massive for her. I don't think it would have failed to go top 40...

I'm really routing for 'Cheers (Drink to That)' to go top 10 officially for her. She's not had an era where all her releases have peaked top 10 yet and 'Loud' is very deserving of that!

EDIT: Eric what track was you talking about that missed the top 40? 'Rockstar 101'?

Rockstar 101, like Man Down, was only released in the US as a single (thankfully, I hate that song). It did terribly in the US aswell. I think it spent like one week in the top 100 or something. :drama: Which is why I just hate when people say all Rihanna has to do to go top 10 is release a music video. That's clearly, far from the truth.

The single the missed the top 40 last year was Hard. It was A-listed by Radio 1 aswell and everything, and I think it's a brilliant song.

About Man Down's radio airplay, yes, it has been played a lot by 1Xtra, etc, but I think they've been playing it so much just because of the nature of the song being more appropriate for urban radio than Only Girl and S&M, which are basically pop songs. They've been playing it a lot since the album release. To got those types of songs, they usually have to resort to obscure artists, so I think when a mainstream artist like Rihanna releases something of that genre, urban radio will jump on it whether it's a single or not.

It's one of but that's only because it was never an official single. It was used as a promotional single, wasn't it? Never really got pushed as a single. I'd say it's one of her more standout hits though. One of those songs that most people seem to know without it actually becoming a hit...

EDIT: Oh crap yeah! I forgot Radio 1 A-Listed it :(

It did get pushed as a proper single but never even re-peaked from when it got to #42 around the time of Rude Boy's release due to confusion over what the second single was.

The Wait is Over (produced by Chase N Status ) was the one which was a promo single. It didn't chart much lower than Hard iirc.

Still Pissed that Hard flopped in the UK. firebomb or photographs (eurgh) would of also done well, probably top 10 if they were released.

I really believe Man Down would of had brilliant chart success over here (A lessor version of its astonishing french chart performance). There is nothing on radio like it and radio 1 would of definitely playlisted it, that airplay alone would of got it into the top 20. Dunno if capital would of playlisted it though.

CHEERS!!! Another uns 10 for Rih and for loud. Hopefully it can help the album to get back into the top 10. Def Jam should discount the album too. The 6th album promo should help loud cross the 6x platinum mark aswell.

'Fire Bomb' not getting a release is the only thing Rihanna's management I think, have gotten wrong! I think that would have sold 'Rated R' a hell of a lot better than 'Te Amo' did and probably would have been another top 10 hit for her. I'd love to have seen it on a greatest hits album or something :( My favourite Rihanna song, ever.

It was called 'Wait Your Turn', not 'The Wait Is Over' :P And yeah, it peaked at #45. That, 'Hard', 'Stranded (Haiti Mon Amour)' and 'Man Down' are her only chart entries that have missed the top 40 and of the rest only 'If I Never See Your Face Again', 'Just Stand Up!', 'Cheers (Drnk To That)' and 'Fly' have missed the top 20. And the latter two are almost certain to get there within the next few weeks, C(DTT) this week.

Rihanna is actually long overdue a Greatest Hits album now Jonjo mentions it - surely most successful artists have a GH before their sixth album? It's not like she has a lack of material

They should just call it 'Good Girl Gone Bad: RiRiLoaded' :P! But in all seriousness though, they could do a 2 disc special for her (maybe one for her own hits and then Disc 2 where she's featured and/or the videos) and still call it "Part 1" or "Volume 1" or whatever  She still has many years yet...

Yeah, Photographs would've been big I think. I love that song. I don't know why so many people hate it!

I always get confused about the title for Wait Your Turn. When it first leaked, it was called The Wait is Over, so I kind of got into a habit of calling it that. :drama:

I find it funny that the gap between 'Rehab' and 'Russian Roulette' is Rihanna's idea of a 'wait'. It is basically the only extended period of time she's not been releasing new material I suppose but that's still a really short time compared to most artists. Plus she was still around in that time with 'Run This Town'.

I love Rihanna, but I don't think she can take a long time out. It would hurt her career if she does. The artists who benefit most from taking a few years out are those who write their own material, I think. Like it seems after what happened to the BEPs, after their 3 year break in 2009, people seem to suggest all artists do that, but the BEPs write their own lyrics, and they compose their own instrumentals, so we know what they were doing in that time period. Rihanna can't really do anything. Her producers (Stargate, etc.) are making songs all the time, so they don't need a break to make them, like artists do.

Rihanna has tweeted that her new material will be out in the autumn! Not long to wait at all!

"Man down" wasn't a US single only. It was number 1 for like 5 weeks in France, and I guess it did well in other European country too.

Pretty much everything Rihanna touches turns to gold, just put Rihanna on your song you're pretty much guaranteed a hit.

Body & Soul  #18, not going to top 10 after all :o

as Eric said, some artists clearly need to keep going while there's still maximum interest in them so it doesn't wane, also see JLS :P I'm not a huge fan of this sort of strategy tbh (mainly because I get SICK of them) but it's pretty effective

Rihanna seems to leave a great unreleased track on her albums. From GGGB apparently a lot of people liked 'Breaking Dishes' (But I've never heard it.) Then 'Firebomb' from Rated R and sort of 'Man Down' from Loud - it was released in a few areas, but not in the UK. I do think she can't take that long out at the moment when she's so dominant in the charts... If she waited a couple of years, she could easily lose relevance!

Yes, I love 'Wait Your Turn' too :P But the record label really messed up the last era so I'm not surprised only four singles were released (and one didn't even get top 40) The Russian Roulette and album release was messy, and the music channels were playing 'Hard' and the radio stations were playlisting 'Rude Boy'... Then Te Amo kind of put an end to the era THEN they choose a single that's already sold alright and had already nearly reached the top 40. It could have worked but after Te Amo, it just didn't get the support it needed. I love Te Amo but I think Photographs, Firebomb, Hard or Wait Your Turn should have been the 3rd single...

Is Jay-Z's label Rocnation or Def Jam?
