I almost think people hated her back in 2008 because she was overexposed, overrated, Nation's Sweetheart, etc, and they felt she didn't deserve all that, and then they find out about the toilet attendent thing, and it's kind of like "Yes! I have an excuse to hate her. If I tell everybody, they'll hate her too".

I think most people started to hate her in 2010, what with her divorce to Ashley Cole, being diagnosed with malaria (the media hammered on and on about it for weeks, which got everyone quite annoyed.), Gamugate, mentoring Cher Lloyd/Katie Wassiel, the car crash album that was "Messy Little Raindrops", etc. ;)

I'm still clinging to hopes that Maroon 5 can make it to number one eventually. It's probably going to outsell the majority of singles that keep blocking it from the top spot.

I'd say it was comfortably outsell all of them. Maroon 5's sales are starting to dip now though are still very respectable. If there is a quiet week for new releases coming up they might just make it but I doubt it. Even if they do somebody will point and shout 'default no.1!' as if it somehow counts for less if it's achieved on relatively modest sales.

What's with all the hype about Sak Noel? If the song gets to number 1 i would seriously die of shame with this country.
I hate all these fake versions of songs, they should all be deleted from iTunes permanently as they lose sales for the original song.

No, they should release the originals instead of holding them back for months despite tonnes of people liking it and wanting to buy it!

I agree that singles should not be held back for so long but all those fake versions should still be deleted.

Surprised that Bingo Players are creeping close to the top 40 :o Sounds like all of those looped house 80s sampling songs that were the 'in thing' in 2004-2006...

If Loca People goes to #1, it will round off what has been an awful year for #1s. I'm not a fan of Dappy, but at least he has a song that makes sense (saying that he has gone up in my books wanting to knock Cowell out). Loca People is just some random Spanish phrases and "What the f***". No lyrical or musical value at all.

I am surprised with Bingo Players too......granted I hate these rapes of 80s classics as it's an excuse to show tarts in the video.

It does count for less if a song goes to #1 'by default' on lower sales. But it won't be so bad for M5 than for, say, Nero, since they have had good sales in the previous weeks. It would just feel wrong if it got to #1 on the 'wrong' week, which looks fairly likely to happen now unless Sak Noel can hold on for 2 weeks.

I'm not really surprised, I thought it had obvious hit potential. I think it could have been a top 5 hit had Radio 1 playlisted it.

The year's not over yet, there's probably far worse still to come :P

She was very hated before then aswell. I remember at the time aswell, when she had malaria and divorced, that people were going "Oh no, people are going to like Cheryl Cole even more now". Yeah how terrible. People are going to like someone. I can't believe how evil someone can be if someone divorces, and they want the whole nation to hate them. And then there was that interview, where she cried about her divorce...and people thought she was faking it. Generally, as far as I know, people tend to get upset about divorcing!!

People from other countries often talk about how British people are miserable, can't celebrate success, etc. They seem to have a point! The only time British people can ever seem to be happy about someone having success is if they're obese. If they're attractive, it's a total "no-no".

Delilah is doing so well now! :o Hopefully she can go top 10. And both One Day and Sexy and I Know It are in the top 100 now.

 14. Go - Delilah :D

EDIT: Oh, it was already #14 at the last pop bars update. Still.

I just don't see the need for its existence in 2011 I guess, I thought the looped 80s house craze had long since passed...

Most commercial dance songs could have the potential to be top 5 hits if Radio 1 playlisted them to be fair! People buy what they like out of what they're exposed to, we just haven't been exposed to any songs of this kind for years now!

One of the presenters on Capital keeps saying that song sounds like it's from 5 years ago aswell.

I'm surprised it didn't do better really, but maybe it'll be a climber.

Everyone thought Jennifer Lopez, Maroon 5 and Will Young had long since passed as well :kink: Okay, those are specific artists rather than an entire group of dance songs, but it's the same principle. You can never assume these things any more these days.

It's easier for artists to come back than genres because they can adapt to contemporary sounds.

I know genre wise things tend to go round in circles but I suppose as a fad/subgenre/product of its time, looped 80s house isn't something I expected to see back...

Whatever next, Steps-type Hi-NRG Europop to make a chart comeback? :o

Isn't that "Go" by Deliah the one where it sounds like she is orgasming? No wonder it's doing well ;)

Does Nero's new single count as 'looped 80s house' as well?

It already has:

On the Floor

S&M

Beautiful People

Sweat

Mr. Saxobeat

Yeah 3x

Glad You Came

Who's That Chick?

Don't Wanna Go Home

Hello

Does Nero's new single count as 'looped 80s house' as well?

No. It samples/interpolates an 80s song but firstly it's not house music and secondly it's a lot more interesting production wise than the majority of those were.

Hello

All of those are clearly influenced by European pop/dance music but moreso I meant boy/girl band intentionally cheesy pop I guess. I can't see that ever making a chart return.

I loved most of them. Thunder In My Heart Again and Say Say Say (Waiting 4 You) (though I'm not sure if that one was a sample...I sure sounds a bit 80's :P) were my favourites.

Is it bad that I saw the title and actually believed for a second that September was #1 somehow, before realising the month?

I loved a lot of them at the time (Meck, Cabin Crew, Sunblock) but time hasn't been kind to them really and I have no desire to listen to them now!
