X Factor and Steps. Could there be a worse musical combination than that? I do, of course, use the word "musical" in its loosest sense.

i think now they could be quite decent live. clare was robbed on popstar to operastar. maybe they could just let her dominate to drown out lisa, lee and h! faye always had a decentish live vocal

I've just thought of another song I wouldn't mind being bigger. Paloma Faith-Upside Down. Although being used on every advert hasn't helped it chart high.

A few more songs i'd like to mention:

Damien Rice - The Blowers Daughter - it re-entered the top 100 on itunes off the back of the Cannonball surge so this could be easy if someone performs it.

Dixie Chicks - Not Ready To Make Nice - Grammy winner and celebrated comeback single after Natalie Maines told the world what she thought about George Bush. Think it peaked really low here.

Regina Spektor - Fidelity - I remember many had high hopes for this but it just missed the top 40 but has been used countless times in adverts and on tv programmes since.....

her first album is amazing. i always thought Do You Want The Truth or Something Beautiful (the single) peaked too low. I am buzzed on by album tracks like 'Don't You Remember' by Adele being used this year. maybe they are going for songs more suitable to their voice rather than the big hits!!!

YES

Glad to see you agree :) You ever seen the documentary about it?

Well, considering she had a slot on The X Factor last year with that very song, I think it's fair to say it wouldn't do anything with a contestant singing it...

Yes, but it was nowhere near the official release. The perfomance did get it to #67 though :)

And as im a huge kylie fan, id love a kylie week that would see breathe, some kind of bliss, bettter than today or the one make the top 10.

Yes! Kylie week! :w00t: I guess they could do one next year to celebrate 25 years in the music industry, if it's not done this year :D

Official release dates don't count for anything anymore though! Having a song performed on national television to 10+ million (I looked this episode up; it received 15.04 million - the second highest figure of the series, only behind the final), and it should guarantee a HUGE hit single! Alas, the song was not very good, so nobody bought it, and I doubt a poor cover version would make people want to change their minds on it.

And anyway, a prerequisite of these recharting songs is they have to already be well-known. Better Than Today is not.

One more song that criminally underperformed but I don't think I could bear being mauled by a contestant...

Joy Division - Love Will Tear Us Apart

Apparently Amelia is singing 'Already Gone' by Kelly Clarkson tonight. That could be huge over here if she performs that well.

Birdy - Skinny Love

Adele - Set Fire To The Rain

Hurts - Wonderful Life

maybe some Miley Cyrus song so she finally gets a UK Top.10 hit

Edited by rors

Some more from me, with who I'd like to sing them:

Adam Lambert - Whataya Want From Me - Amelia

Alanis Morrisette - Ironic (SHOCKING this missed top 10!) - Amelia

Christina Aguilera - You Lost Me - Amelia or Sami

Delta Goodrem - Not Me, Not I - Amelia

Delta Goodrem - I Can't Break It To My Heart - Sami

Delta Goodrem - Believe Again (is it even on UK iTunes? I know Delta was randomly not released here :() - Kitty?

Fantasia - Bittersweet (not released/pushed in the UK but I'm sure the album's on iTunes) - Misha

Gabriella Cilmi - Defender - Sami

Jennifer Hudson - Spotlight - Misha or Amelia

Kate Bush - This Woman's Work - Kitty? (I know it's more Janet but I couldn't BEAR her murdering this)

Katy Perry - Thinking Of You - Amelia

Laura Marling - Devil's Spoke - Janet

Lykke Li - I Follow Rivers - Janet

Lykke Li - I'm Good I'm Gone - Janet

Mariah Carey - I Stay In Love - Amelia or Misha

Mary J Blige - Be Without You - Misha

Miley Cyrus - When I Look At You - Amelia

Mumford & Sons - Little Lion Man - Jonjo, Janet James or Frankie

Nerina Pallot - Everybody's Gone To War - Janet

Paramore - The Only Exception - Amelia

Rihanna - Rehab - Misha

Sia - Breathe Me - Amelia or Janet

SO many Alanis songs should have made the top 10 :P A fair few would suit an X-factor performance like Uninvited
Janet has a version of 'Us' by Regina Spektor on youtube. that would be an awesome choice for a song that undeservedly never charted in the uk
  • 2 weeks later...

  • 1 year later...

REM - Losing My Religion

Crowded House - Four Seasons in One Day
