The title track was a mellow hit in waiting. DWUW and Gypsy could have been big hits. Applause was a small hit. That is it. That's all. Sexx Dreams needed a massive revamp to be a hit. Swine and Manicure and Aura are all flops.

'Sexxx Dreams' absolutely should have been a single. But let's be honest, the overall album is largely a hot mess. There's some absolute stinkers on there and a lot that "could have been improved with better production/less shouty vocals".

 

Could we be looking at an official chart re-entry both here and in the US this week? :o

I would love to read a book or watch a documentary of what REALLY happened behind the scenes with ARTPOP. It wasn't pretty, we know that.

 

Regarding the charting possibility, I have no idea what the album sales are on iTunes these days. The streams are ok, and could help to gain 10-20 positions, but the sales are the deciding factor whether it charts or not.

No. Venus was the choice for the second single because it performed OK when released on iTunes, but they wanted something massive, then DWUW was released and reached #1 on iTunes in over 60 countries (something that even Applause couldn't do), so she decided to put DWUW as a second single. Same thing happened with A-YO and MR.

No songs on this album other than Applause and DWUW had the potential to be hits. Gypsy is just noise. G.U.Y., the song that, apart from singles, comes closest to something that radio would play, only managed to reach Top 90 on iTunes US after the release of that expensive budget video. I hope she stays away from drugs.
