September 7, 201212 yr Can't believe they're coming to NYC :w00t: I'm going to try and go, hopefully they'll sing the new single!!
September 7, 201212 yr Ah dang it - I wont be in NYC till November - otherwise I sooo woulda gone! Your lucky! And hot poster - but an Ego promo pic... really? haha
September 14, 201212 yr Went to the show in NYC last night, it was so much fun, I was front row!!!!! The girls looked amazing, they did three songs Notorious, What About Us and All Fired Up. What About Us sounds amazing definitely up there with their best, hopefully it will be a hit in the US. They seemed taken back a little because the crowd was so loud, but they all looked really happy about it and Una said she was happy to see so many people singing along to their songs. September 22, 201212 yr Got this in the mailer today: WE'LL BE YOUR AMERICAN GIRLS Woooohooo! Earlier this week we finally revealed what we've been keeping a secret from you for a while now. US girls have signed a deal with Island Def Jam and Mercury Records for a U.S. album!! Our forthcoming material is still a work in progress but we have been working away with a hot hot team including Diane Warren. I can't wait for you to hear our new sound! Stay tuned for more...AHHHH! SO EXCITING. IT'S OFFICIAL. I'M OFFICIALLY EXCITED.
September 23, 201212 yr Congratluations to the girls. Now please come home and release something before your American career takes off, otherwise we'll forget you!
October 1, 201212 yr I hope things start moving quickly soon for them stateside, obviously it'll all kick off around January but hopefully they manage to have some success before Little Mix head over there and blow up (probably around April/May/summer if they're following 1D's timeframe which they seem to be - summer single, November single/album, January/February tour... then heading to the US after). I love both groups but I don't 'connect'/identify with LM like I do with The Sats though (corny I know haha) and it is a little disheartening to watch LM explode with all the hype and interest while The Sats just plod along. I'd like for them to both make it in the US but can't see it happening. Little Mix probably have the edge with US potential with Wings and DNA, their image, wider appeal and the team behind them. They'll be massive globally. Can't help but feel like they'll overshadow and probably kill off The Sats out there and here, back at home...? I think Little Mix will have the 1D style success and The Sats with The Wanted's type success (though I'd rather it be the other way round haha). It's about the music for me but I just wish we could celebrate the girls for once and have a truly successful album campaign, there's never much to be really happy about with their sales or overall success so I just want them to be huge as they deserve to be but also so we can finally celebrate kinda instead of being full of hope and disappointment... 'oh, it's okay', 'maybe next time' and 'it's not bad' at the end of each era... if that makes sense. I hate comparing but I will be here ha... I just listened to DNA and then What About Us, there's so much more energy/life/strength and thought been put into DNA.. it's interesting to listen to it.. it does sound like a huge hit compared to What About Us, it sounds so average and dull from the live versions. :( Obviously we don't have the studio version of What About Us but some of the live videos are pretty clear in sound quality so I doubt there will be much difference. Sats need something like DNA/Wings - not outright carbon copies sonically but just a track that truly showcases their vocals and makes a statement about them. Wings is like an updated version of Spice Girls' Wannabe but not a blatant copy, it's unique but has similar elements - just my opinion and I'm sure many won't agree haha but yeah... The Sats need a song like that, though maybe it was Higher. What About Us doesn't sound like people will take notice of them out there or think 'wow, they've arrived'. It doesn't have that effect. On me, anyway lol. They need to step it up to compete. Anyhow, hopefully America takes to The Sats, early signs seem good but it's whether they can sustain that and translate it into 'sales'. Hopefully they get some decent TV promo too. They were back in the studio with The Jam yesterday after two days of recording/writing with Diane Warren looking on their official twitter. Sounds like Diane wrote at least 3 songs for/with them. If it all falls flat on the US front and the album doesn't do well neither there or here at home (at home it probably won't, this is The Sats after all, meh), then what do they do? Bow out after a hits compilation next year? 5/6 years together is a nice run but I want them to carry on and keep giving us music, I wouldn't care if it sold truck loads (that would be nice, don't get me wrong :P) or sold 10 copies, it's about the music for me... but it's whether that's feasible from a label perspective, right? October 1, 201212 yr We will have another Girlband domination again, if Little Mix goes to No.1 with DNA, The Sats do well with What About Us, and Girls Aloud reunite at the Royal Variety. All due to take place in November.
October 1, 201212 yr I sort of agree about the DNA comparisons. The Saturdays main problem is their lack of personality. All the non-fans say this on forums, that their main problem is that they're faceless and very safe/ordinary. Little Mix and Stooshe have their own style and image but their songs are also quite different to what's out there at the moment. DNA has a massive production and is full of hooks, you just KNOW it's going to be absolutely massive. What About Us it just seems like a non event in comparison to it. The only remotely different thing about What About Us compared to their last songs are the "la la la la la" hook, but the delivery of the chorus and the "Rochelle/Vanessa lead verses, Mollie and Frankie have a line each, Una takes the middle 8 while singing about boyfriends and looking pretty" formula is pretty boring now.
October 1, 201212 yr DNA is just trying to surf on the interest of that E.T performance (which wasn't even that great, Amelia Lily did a better one on the Judging House episode). It has dubstep so it does sound like things out there at the moment. And the chorus reminds me of the chorus of E.T anyway. The production is indeed really amazing, but hey you can't blame The Saturdays if their production isn't up to that. Blame the producers. Plus, StooShe don't really have their own style either, they are only doing RnB music which set them apart from the other girlgroups. If we're thinking that way, The Saturdays also have their own style since they do dance music which is something these two girlgroups don't do... Call me when Little Mix or StooShe does something like All Fired Up or Notorious. People seem to forget that The Sats are on their 14th single now. If This Is Love, Up and their first singles were also praised, maybe even more than DNA or Blackheart, so let's see how things will turn out. Fans are always hot and cold with the girls. Blamed them to be safe and ordinary, yet wanted them to release Faster to save On Your Radar ? Oh well.
October 2, 201212 yr Agree with the post about DNA, the girls need to do something exciting. I'm a big fan but they've become very boring, I've seen them live and the concert was amazing but they just don't seem interested anymore. Hopefully What About Us comes out and sends them in to worldwide domination and I can regret ever doubting them, not very likely but I can always dream.
October 6, 201212 yr OM-LA-G! The Saturdays are set to play their FIRST ever headline gig in America! Screeeeeaaaam! The girls are set to rock out LA’s Roxy Theatre on October 30th and want to see YOU down the front screaming and singing along! The Sats will perform a selection of their hits alongside their new single ‘What Abous Us’, so there really is no excuse why you wouldn’t be there. Tickets for this FIRST ever American headlining show go on sale this Monday October 8 at 10:30am (PDT)
October 6, 201212 yr 'DNA' blows 'What About Us' out of the water! Little Mix have set the bar a lot higher now, and I hope The Saturdays can keep up with them... but with material like 'What About Us' & '30 Days', they'll struggle. The Sats are kind of coming across like a somewhat inferior product in the girl band market, and I really wish that wasn't the case. I love The Saturdays etc, but they need to step it up, material wise. :o I'm hoping for some gems on album 5. ^_^
October 6, 201212 yr Everything about the girls needs upgraded. For years they've been doing the exact same thing - walking around with high street clothes looking pretty, coming out with boring and cliche statements in interviews and failing to show any sort of personality in them, spending all their videos posing and smiling and then going on stage delivering average vocals while singing average songs about boyfriends. They have the occasional blip of excellence (the Ego, Notorious, Higher and All Fired Up videos and the excitement of the Missing You release) but everything about them is just so average. Their live lounges are amazing but in proper live performances they're upstaged by Little Mix and Stooshe. Little Mix have their own quirky style (the denim, Jade's braces, Perrie's style, Jesy's leggings) and so do Stooshe, plus both of them have already had a bigger hit than The Sats have ever had (Black Heart being Stooshe's second single and selling about 450K and Wings being LM's first proper single and will sell the same probably, and The Sats biggest hit was 320K in 2010). Both have a buzz around them and there's alot of interest in them. DNA is a massive production, haunting vocals, each girl stands out and it'll probably have an equally fantastic video. What About Us just seems so average in comparison. It could have slotted on to any of their albums (besides their debut) and could have been released at any point in their career. The live performances of it have been fine vocally but the image is dull and the choreography is pretty weak (their best since Up, but still nothing to brag about). You'd think the fact they're trying to break the US would mean they'd attempt some huge slick choreography, record a killer song and try and spice up their image a bit but it's just all plain and safe as usual. If they ever get the chance to get an interview on a TV show they better show some personality and try and stand out because I really can't see the US campaign working for them at all unless they put some effort in. And I know it looks like i'm a "hater" and i'm too negative but come on. Compare DNA to What About Us. Compare DNA to 30 Days. Compare DNA to My Heart Takes Over. Look at the public's reaction to Black Heart and Wings over the last five singles released by The Sats. There's no interest or buzz around them because they've been sticking to the same formula they've had since 2008. Looking pretty, Vanessa/Rochelle dominating, Una doing the middle 8, Frankie and Mollie doing a line each, doing some weak choreography, giving average vocals, posing in the videos and then they wonder why everything flops.
October 6, 201212 yr We haven't even heard a studio version of What About Us though. True. It could (and probably will be) be pretty good, but all the same it'll still probably still sound like a Wordshaker/Headlines/On Your Radar album track which isn't good enough to launch them in America and worldwide.
October 6, 201212 yr To be honest, every time I look here, there's either a whole load of positivity, or a whole load of negativity. We haven't heard What About Us properly yet, why don't we just wait and see? Have a little optimism, and faith in the girls.
October 6, 201212 yr I'm gonna sound like the worst "stan" ever, so don't bother reading if you don't want to read a "stan-ish" post. Why should their 13th, 14th, 15th (and on) single be better than the Little Mix and Stooshe 2nd or 3rd singles ? Those two girlgroups need to prove their value. They need to release amazing songs. The Saturdays already did that. Up, Ego, Higher, Notorious, All Fired Up. It's all done. People know what they are capable of. You're talking as if Little Mix is gonna have a single better than the last one until the 14th one and forever on (and that is if they stay until that). Let's be honest, they won't. At some point, one of their singles isn't going to be as good as whatever which one is your favorite... or worse it won't be better than the last Saturdays singles. SHOCK! :o Stooshe provides amazing vocals. Well, yes, but they are also singing RnB ballads. But you know what, so does The Saturdays when they do pop ballads. Last Call and Issues anyone ? Great harmonies and great vocals. Am I saying they are better than the vocals/harmonies from Stooshe ? Maybe they are, maybe not. But the one thing that is sure is that they are on the same league. Same for Little Mix. The vocals the girls from Little Mix or Stooshe provide aren't your typical Beyonce, Mariah Carey or Celine Dion amazing vocals. They are typical girlband vocals. Vocals that The Saturdays can do when they do these kind of songs...They just don't much of that because it's not who they are. You might want them to be that, but they aren't. Going back to Little Mix, quite a few people who heard DNA said it could be a Saturdays single because that electro-pop/bit dancey/dubstep is what The Saturdays have been sounding like for the past few years. Little Mix are trying to stay as current as The Saturdays are trying to. It's their "thing" to have a current sound ala The Saturdays and to bring harmonies ala old RnB girlgroups. The Saturdays can't really do that or they would be ripping off Little Mix. And Stooshe isn't particurly more original than The Saturdays. I mean, they are releasing a cover from a girlgroup that actually sound like them. Bottom line, they are all on the same league, they are just different. Plus, it's not the girls who search for those tracks. It's their A&R. Think about it. On one side you got the A&R of Little Mix and on the other side you got The Saturdays one. They both go to the same producer for that very amazing track. The producer needs to choose between the two groups. So Little Mix A&R is gonna say that they won the X-Factor, a tv-show watched by millions and millions of people, that they will release that track as a single and will perform it everywhere because they actually can afford those big promo slots...and then you got the The Saturdays A&R who has that to say : "Their last single went to #7! ... But it fell out of the top 100 in a little bit more than 30 days. They aren't going to perform your song on a good TV-show to guarantee great sales because they won't ever get big promo slots." Who is gonna get the amazing track? Not The Saturdays, that's for sure. And I know it looks like i'm a "hater" and i'm too negative but come on. Compare DNA to What About Us. Compare DNA to 30 Days. Compare DNA to My Heart Takes Over. Oh, wait...You don't compare DNA to All Fired Up...True, because All Fired Up actually blow DNA "out of the water" without even a single amazing vocal. You see, that's my point. The Saturdays already have better tracks than the singles released by Stooshe and Little Mix, they don't need to always keep up with that. Looking pretty, Vanessa/Rochelle dominating, Una doing the middle 8, Frankie and Mollie doing a line each, doing some weak choreography, giving average vocals, posing in the videos and then they wonder why everything flops. That is just unfair, really. You compare a girlgroup that is on their 4th year together and who has released four albums and fifth one is coming to girlgroups who haven't released one yet. We will see if in four years if Little Mix or Stooshe aren't doing the same thing. One last thing. The Saturdays has been the best girlgroup out there for four years. Girlgroups have come and went. Why can't they be the 2nd one now ? Why do they ABSOLUTELY need to be better than Little Mix or Stooshe ? It's funny because you all obviously like these girlgroups, yet, you don't want them to do better than The Saturdays...Why not ? They are both starting off in the music industry...Why can't they be the best girlgroup around ? The Saturdays have four amazing years behind them. To be the 2nd best girlgroup at the moment isn't something to be ashamed of. There were times when the singles from Sugababes were better than the ones from Girls Aloud and vice-versa... Well, you know what, they did fine and nothing has changed, it's still the same world, just different girlgroups. Another example would be The Pussycat Dolls when they were introduced with Don't Cha, well they were the best girlgroup around for me...but this time is gone, they went a bit down the road and other girlgroups started releasing better tracks than the singles that followed up the PCD hits. It's always gonna be like that. Edited October 6, 201212 yr by Hurricane
October 7, 201212 yr To be honest, every time I look here, there's either a whole load of positivity, or a whole load of negativity. We haven't heard What About Us properly yet, why don't we just wait and see? Have a little optimism, and faith in the girls. To be fair, after 4 and a half years, 13 singles & 4 album campaigns... optimism for the sake of it does wear a little bit thin when it comes to these girls. Every Sats campaign is done in the same sort of manner, and the outcome is pretty much always the same! As it stands at the moment, they've not altered anything about themselves compared to how they were during the 'On Your Radar' campaign. Considering that campaign resulted in average selling singles & a flop album, it's debatable whether being exactly the same as that is going to make them more successful in 2013? I know we haven't heard the studio version of 'What About Us', but judging from the live performances it does seem like a track that could have been an 'On Your Radar' left over. I think it's better to be critical (which I don't see as being negative) and discuss how they could improve their act. Especially in light of the fact they have serious competition now.
October 7, 201212 yr Tbh Hurricane I agree with you. We will wait and see what Little Mix are like on album four....
October 7, 201212 yr shadow jog on I don't get why you post on here when all you do is complain. you aint no fan. you hater. you hater. and you aint no dat.
