Mick Jagger is making a new song :o because of MLJ? really? mind you, if that becomes a hit, then we would've had the artist and a song that name checks said artist successful in the same year!

Well he did have an album out a week or two ago, with his supergroup 'Superheavy' which included him, Joss Stone, A.R Rahman and Damien Marley, so he has been making music anyway.

Have to say, that Will.i.am, J.Lo and Jagger song is rather odd. Never thought I would see the day.

That'd be pretty cool, but I'm sure that happens quite a lot though?

To be honest, I find the idea of Damien Marley (who usually collabs with Nas) and A R Rahman (who did that song with "The Pussycat Dolls & Nicole Scherzinger") doing songs with Mick Jagger probably more weird than him doing songs with will.i.am and J-Lo. :o

Well Damien Rice has been named checked in Ed Sheerans 'You Need Me, I Don't Need You' and 'Cannonball' has only just become properly successful this year. Can't really think of any other examples just now?

Well, it happens all the time with rappers. Like Eminem name-checking Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera in about 20 songs, back when they were all popular.

Recently I guess there's Chris Brown, who's had a hit with Beautiful People this year, being name-checked on No Regrets by Dappy.

And The Saturdays and Pixie Lott on Tinchy's Spaceship. I remember at the time everyone was saying things along the lines of 'Pixie Lott? Is she still relevant?'

I shall add my name to the  at Jagger, J-Lo and will.i.am. I want to see this, and if it'll be any good.

Don't forget Chipmunk who namechecked The Saturdays on 'Oopsy Daisy'... and then beat them to #1 with it

It's not really that rare an occurrence.

all very well, BUT I was meaning to refer to the actual title of the song namechecking an artist that also has a hit in the same year (which I probably should've made clearer :P ) slightly less common I'd imagine if you just look at the singles chart

Apparently Pixie and Tinchy are doing a song together now, which is funny considering that line. I bet Pixie's boyfriend is a bit worried.

Also, Chipmunk mentions The Saturdays on Oopsy Daisy, which coincidentally beat Forever Is Over from #1.

EDIT: Beaten by Bre. :drama:

Also, if you count songs where the artist mentions their own name, then it literally happens all the time!

Oh, yes, that's probably quite rare then.

Ok, don't worry. I was just having a bit of fun. :P

That is a lot less common, actually, probably due to the rarity of namechecking artists in titles altogether, which only really happens when they reach classic status, and aren't really in the singles chart any more. So Jagger's situation is a bit unusual.

Hopefully Pink's 'Who Knew' will follow the likes of 'Cannonball'/'Iris'/'Make You Feel My Love' if it's true that

Amelia Lily is singing it tomorrow on The X Factor.

^_^

I don't want Who Knew to get back in the charts. :( It doesn't particularly need to either! The song was huge enough the first time around.
Who Knew = best Pink song. BY MILES  And she has some GREAT songs.
P!nk's best song for me is 'Funhouse' (unpopular opinion, I know). Most of her back catalogue is brilliant though.
I don't like many Pink songs, but my favourite is Like a Pill. And I like Whataya Want From Me aswell, if you can count that.

Funhouse is amazing but not her best IMO but then that's mainly because her songs are mostly great.

I want Who Knew back because 1) it's amazing and people need to remember it/get to know it and 2) sales were still very low in 2006 and it could do with some more

True that it could do with more sales, but the song is extremely well known. I doubt there's many people who don't know or remember it. I still hear it on the radio quite a bit, like on Heart FM, etc. Maybe she has a lesser-known song that deserves a boost.

'Who knew' is one of my favourite Pink songs. It's sold around 240k, so fairly decent for 2006. I would love it to get a few extra sales though.
