October 4, 201113 yr I'm more than a little uneasy at this outcome.... I'm not totally convinced she's 100% innocent...... and the evidence, whilst spoiled by the local police, didn't point to her being a completely innocent party at all. I think she's lied about the chain of events in the house that night.... her story never added up. So - why did she lie? And isn't now the time to tell the truth? Instead, she'll be made to look like some kind of American national heroine, paraded around the chat shows, raking in millions from her 'ordeal'. Well, I for one can't prove her guilt - but I don't think that court wholly proved her innocence, either. That poor girl's family, haven't they been through enough? This is a living nightmare for them.

If the family are still convinced that Knox was the guilty party after all these years then they're rather misguided, of course they would want closure over their daughter's murder but they haven't had that ever since the Italian authorities victimised these two innocent people.

This is a living nightmare for them. It's called "reasonable doubt", and there was plenty of that in this case... Thankfully, the Italian courts have admitted their mistakes, and have admitted that a guilty verdict is simply not sustainable in this case... Which is more than can be said for so-called American "justice" in the case of Troy Davis..... Oh, but he wasn't a pretty, white, American girl was he....? <_< While I feel sorry for Meredith Kercher's parents, it would be absolutely perverse to allow a severely doubtful conviction to continue just to make them feel better.... Blame the authorities for making their mistakes, not Knox or Solecitto..... And here's another thing.... Why is it that we're all focussing so much on HER and not on the bloke...? There were two of them here, and yet Amanda Knox seemed to take her disproportionate share of the blame... Typical, it's always the woman's fault isn't it...?
October 4, 201113 yr Hmm. I've been following it since it happened and some things said by both sides of the trial were ridiculous. "Amanda's DNA was found all over the flat" ... of course it was, she lived there! But her DNA was on the knife used to kill Kercher, but again, it was their knife so how do you we know how old the DNA was? It was all very vague. Of course, she lied about a few things. I don't know why but I guess that if you're being charged for a murder that you did/didn't do you'll do everything to get out of it. The whole thing is tragic and I can't help feel bad for both sides. On the one hand, I'm pleased she's free because it would've been unfair to convict her with such little evidence. But the Kercher's must feel horrendous knowing that their daughter's murderer could still be out there. And I don't think Knox will commercialize this. She opted for a normal flight home, after being offered a private jet in exchange for an exclusive TV interview. I'm sure she wants to forget this whole ordeal.

And this is exactly the reason why I'm very dubious about DNA evidence being used as some sort of panacea or "silver bullet"... That, and also there's a thing called "Secondary DNA Transfer"..... Say for example you're with someone, you give them a hug goodnight, a hair from your head transfers to their clothing, then that person goes out and kills someone, and that hair comes off their jacket and ends up at the murder scene.... DNA evidence says YOU'RE the guilty party..... and some people actually want a compulsory DNA database in this country.... Yeah, great idea..... -_-

DNA evidence says YOU'RE the guilty party..... and some people actually want a compulsory DNA database in this country.... Yeah, great idea..... -_- Which is one reason why I too oppose compulsory DNA samples. I think it's unlikely that a wrongful conviction would happen in the scenario you describe above. However, there is every chance that the innocent party would be hauled in for questioning. DNA evidence is useful but no more than that. None of us know how we would react if we were stuck in a police cell being questioned on suspicion of a murder we didn't commit. However, I suspect most of us would panic to some degree. That is likely to lead to a certain degree of confusion which, in turn, leads us to saying things which are untrue.
October 4, 201113 yr I'm not overly familiar with the case, but I have heard of it (sort of difficult not to) I'm alright with this as long as their wasn't enough evidence to support it. Sending somebody away that you don't have strong proof that they've done the deed isn't justice. But her DNA was on the knife used to kill Kercher Goodness help her if she decided to make a sandwich for her lunch that day. Edited October 4, 201113 yr by Sabrewulf
October 4, 201113 yr She may have been freed but she's never going to shake off the "murderess" tag and will have to be looking over her shoulder for the rest of her life, judging my some Twitter comments and and Blogs with threats being made against her. Yes it's probably all talk but I wouldn't like to be in her shoes. She'll be looked on by many as a killer until the day she dies. Edited October 4, 201113 yr by Common Sense
October 4, 201113 yr As much as the investigation was entirely botched there was something definitely not right with her. Her body language, actions and character profile just strike me very sociopath-like. She's obviously a very deeply unpleasant young woman but of course this does not a murderer make. We will never know now of course, with the Knox family hiring PR consultants, botched evidence, a very aggressive press. This is the truth of it. It's quite scary to think that the Italian police did such an awful job of preserving evidence and so on. I hoped anybody involved in the forensics process initially has been fired because it's thanks to them that justice may never be found for Meredith. As for Amanda... it's easy to understand why she was demonised. The press and the public always want somebody to blame in these situations. She was doing cart wheels in the police station. She was a screw loose at best and guilty of murder at worst.
October 4, 201113 yr Goodness help her if she decided to make a sandwich for her lunch that day. Well exactly. It was ridiculous to use this as evidence. Her DNA was everywhere, and why wouldn't it be? The whole thing is bizarre. I'm not saying she didn't do it, because I don't know, but the "evidence" wasn't really valid at all. October 4, 201113 yr I think this was the right thing, I haven't fully followed this case but the whole thing seemed so flawed to me, almost like they all had a vendetta against her (which being a court is of course not the case) and were biased from day one.

In a situtation like that, no one really knows how they'll react until it actually happens to them....
October 4, 201113 yr Exactly! Every piece of their DNA evidence was tainted and the police twisted the science to suit their witch hunt. She might be guilty, but nobody should be convicted on such little and absurd evidence.
October 4, 201113 yr Is this actually true or is it just anecdote....? And besides, it could've just been nerves.. In a situtation like that, no one really knows how they'll react until it actually happens to them.... A police witness testified in court with regards to the cart wheels thing and as far as I know it was never denied. And I don't buy the nerves thing at all. Nervous people jingle their legs and feet about or wrap their fingers against a chair or their leg. They don't do cartwheels! I'm not saying she was guilty necessarily but she really did make life hard for herself.
October 4, 201113 yr Author I thought it was widely known that Knox's social skills weren't really all there? She was a bit of a nutcase, and she was far too eager to help the police. She didn't actually realise she'd been arrested for murder for a long time after she was first interviewed.
October 5, 201113 yr if you're being charged for a murder that you did/didn't do you'll do everything to get out of it. well, we're being led to believe that Knox is wholly innocent and whiter than white... and I don't buy it. At best, she was well aware of the murder and the chain of events that led to it... at worst, she was involved in it. Either way, she's lied through her teeth throughout. And if you're 100% innocent... then I'm sorry but you DO NOT lie. All we can hope for now is a retrial...... because justice has absolutely not been done here.

October 5, 201113 yr What..? A retrial based upon the same dodgy, corrupted evidence...? If the Supreme court overturns the Appeal and orders a re-trial it'll be in her absence as the Yanks won't extradite her back to Italy. Thery've hinted that she won't ever return to Italy now.

None of us can say with any certainty how we would respond to being charged with a murder we did not commit. Let's take an example. Let us assume that I am being questioned about a murder I did not commit. If I am asked what I was doing on a given evening a few months earlier, my response would be "I was probably at home". If asked whether I had any proof, I would have to say No as I live alone. Perhaps, several hours or even days later, I might think "Hang on, isn't that the night I went to see a band". So, I change my story. Does that make me guilty?
