Not sure why it's being re-released (probably just getting it out of the vault and getting ready to give it a DVD release!) but it's going to be in 3D this time and I am looking forward to this so, so much! It's number 1 in the US Box Office charts for the second week!

YOU GUYS HAVE NO IDEA HOW EXCITED I AM!

Because of my broken childhood I only saw this for the first time a few months ago. I wasn't that keen but I think it's probably because I didn't have the nostalgic value to go with it.

I never really liked 'the Lion King' even if it is essentially an animalised/cartoon version of 'Hamlet'.

Impromptu classic Disney rate:

01 'The Jungle Book'

02 'Alladin'

03 'The Aristocats'

04 'Little Mermaid' (best soundtrack)

05 'Fox and the Hound'

06 'Bambi'

07 'Beauty and the Beast'

08 'Dumbo'

09 'One Hundred and One Dalmatians'

10 'Peter Pan'

Literally cannot wait for this. MUST go on Friday!

I really want to see this, but will it really be that good in 3D? I remember when I watched Toy Story (the old one, not the third one) in 3D at the cinema's, there wasnt really much difference.

Hopefully it'll still be on at the end of November when the new cinema in my town is open, but I doubt it, the easiest cinema for me to get to is an hour's bus drive away

i might go just because it's been years and years and years since i've seen it and thats a crime.

your sig = amazing. just thought I'd say.

anyways this should be good, I've not seen the proper version itself in a couple of years either. :D

The Lion King held the animated movie worldwide takings record for some time before being overtaken by several digitally animated releases (Pixar and Dreamworks films) in recent years. Methinks that Disney hopes that releasing this again in 3D (for maximum ticket pricing) will leapfrog it back to the top and reinstate them as top dog in the animated film market.

It seems Pixar will be re-releasing 'Monster's Inc.' & 'Finding Nemo' sometime next year...

Two of your Disney•Pixar favorites, Finding Nemo and Monsters, Inc., will head back to the big screen starting next year! Sulley might be an even better scarer in 3D
I am (naturally) excited about this as FN is my all time favourite film. I really love it. But I'm not sure how I feel about it being 3D. I think Nemo could work. Doubt MI will have much impact though...
Can we skip this and get the Little Mermaid back to cinema :D?

It's also being reswizzed in 3D with a September 2013 release date.

all this talk of disney films has got me thinking... about making a disney film rate :kink: thoughts?

Do it.

And Jake's right 'The Little Mermaid' and 'Beauty and the Beast' are getting 3D reworks! :D

I DESPISE 3D (films, everything else is pretty good in 3D) and HATE paying for it, but I will just to see this in the cinema, which I didn't the first time around. CLASSIC.
Saw it today :D 3D effects work surprisingly well in this. It's not used all the time but when it is, it's pretty good. I was probably the most excited person in the theater for this film. When the film ended I felt like clapping and I looked around hoping that all the kids would be smiling but no. This generation. Dead. Also the turn out was surprisingly low for this. I'd say there were only a good 20-30 people in there for a 7:15 viewing...

At our cinema, it's in our biggest screen (almost 300 people) and we had a good 200 for this at 7:30! It'd been doing well throughout the day, also apparently (I started at 6 so I don't know exactly). Going to see it Sunday!
I watched it in 2D as the people I went with don't like watching 3D films, but it's the first time I've seen it, and what a great film it was! :D
Went last night as it was great :D Was very packed too; thank god Vue do reserved seating now! There wasn't much 3D actually used, but what was was good. I liked how they layered the scenery in 3D. Definitely worth it, and it's definitely one of my all-time faves.

It was a good call because it's now the 3rd highest grossing animated movie worldwide ever, behind Shrek 2 and Toy Story 3. It's only $20 million away from Shrek 2 though so it'll pass that in the next few days, and it's $160 million away from Toy Story 3. It's not impossible, but it's unlikely to get there. It will come close though, and I can see it ending up in the top 10 worldwide grosses.

It's well deserved too. Amazing film. Get Aladdin, Beauty... and Nemo out in 3D now though. They'll be amazing.
