April 22, 201213 yr Frances vs. Kate 'Ironic' Ugh. So annoyed. I love both of these two and wanted to see them both progress, but they're too similar in style to actually bounce off each other. I liked the verses (their solo parts) more than when they were singing the chorus together. I prefer Kate's voice, but I think it'll tire quicker than Frances'. Kate would have been in danger of becoming the voices own "Aiden Grimshaw" and the public could have got bored by week 4 or so. So it's a smart move for him to choose Frances. Aleks vs. Emmy 'Broken Strings Big, big fan of Aleks at his audition, but tonight in this part of the competition he seemed a bit too shy and it showed. Emmy got screwed over by being paired with him as this battle definitely stopped her from giving it her all. Aleks needs to work on his confidence in order to advance any further. Emmy knew she was a gonner though.
April 22, 201213 yr Cassius vs. David - Neither of them doing this so well, odd song to choose. Not very keen on David's voice, and can't see it doing to well, so Cassius would be the right choice. WOO. Definitely the right choice, Cassius has a lot of potential, as proved with Closer, but I don't think this was the song to do it. Barbara vs. Leanne - Okay, this is very easy for me. Barbara is very cabaret, Leanne isn't that great but she's a country mile ahead of Barbara in terms of looking for a future popstar, and a better voice in general really. WOO [2]. Another good choice! Kate vs Frances - One of them is really out of tune here. I can't work out who, but I want to like both. I think I slightly prefer Frances, but this is tough because they are both 'quite good'. So I'm gonna go TEAM FRANCES here, but neither are spectacular. WOO. [3]. It's going well tonight! Aleks vs Emmy - I loved Emmy's audition, so this should be good. He's actually a lot better than I remember him being, but I really like Emmy's voice, and she's great in a way that she's not too frail (Bo, Kate) but she's not too belty. He has a good voice, but I'm rooting for Emmy here.. just. NOO [1]. Not massively bothered though, he impressed me, and she came across a bit smug in the end. Ben vs Ruth - That was a really weird battle, like a very boring battle for me. I still find Ruth to be very pitchy though, and Ben wasn't annoying because he wasn't being a diva behind a piano. But, I don't actually care. Team Ben, I guess? NOO [2]. Once again, not too much of a wrong decision, not bothered about either.
April 22, 201213 yr Is it impossible for any of the judges to make the right decision? They're certainly making picking a winner easy once the live shows start! I conceed that LeannevsBabs was definitely correct but that's about it! Edited April 22, 201213 yr by LexC
April 22, 201213 yr Its all going pear shaped tonight with the wrong decisions, I don't know what happened to the Ben and Ruth battle that was very sweet and short, and putting Ruth into the final was more of a shocker instead of Ben.
April 22, 201213 yr Ruth vs. Ben 'I Wanna Dance With Somebody' Thank God Ruth went through over the less camp Johnny Robinson! Ruth's not perfect, but she most certainly ain't as bad as both Danny or Will seem to suggest. Plus, this will work in Jessie's favour I reckon. Ruth's gonna progress and improve in each show. Best choice imo. Matt & Sueleen vs. Lindsey 'Born To Run' oh this battle was boring. Lindsey out did Matt & Sueleen, by quite a bit though. Matt should dump Sueleen and go it solo. Neither acts are going to progress much further, so it wouldn't matter who went through or not though.
April 22, 201213 yr Matt & Sueleen remind me of Peters & Lee, a 60/70s band, for younger members ask your parents, Suedehead will know who I mean :D
April 22, 201213 yr Hannah vs. Murray 'Kids' Both of them were flat when it came to the chorus. Hannah definitely has the more interesting voice though and she seems to have the tone Danny was so desperate to get through the blinds, so it's not surprising he went with her over Murray. Becky vs. Indie & Pixie 'Irreplaceable' Walk in the park for Becky. She owned them two, like so bad. She needs to work on her diction, but apart from that I think Becky is my absolute favourite in the competition. I&P have improved though, but not well enough to advance any further over Becky. Thankfully, Jessie thought the same too!
April 22, 201213 yr My favourites so far are Joelle and Becky. I've agreed with most of the decisions, some of them have been like real WTF? moments though.
April 22, 201213 yr Matt & Sueleen vs Lindsey Butler - Neither of them really interest me once again, and I don't like that song. But, the harmonies of Matt & Sueleen together, I actually quite like. And, Lindsey is just average for me. So, for that, I will say Matt & Sueleen to win. WOO [4]. No real other comment to make. Hannah vs Murray - Another pretty uninteresting battle of people. I'm finding it really hard to watch him with his awkward dad dancing. Neither are anything special, but Hannah has a more interesting voice for me. Very karaoke song to choose though. Hannah to win. WOO [5]. Indie & Pixie vs Becky - Well, it's not even close in my opinion. Indie & Pixie trying to hit those big notes was quite embarassing, and I found them just as 'okay' as I did in auditions. I really liked Becky's tone here, quite an abrupt tone, but I like it. Becky to win, for sure. WOO [6]. Becky really shone there. Denise vs Adam - Adam was ace in the audition, but he wasn't as good there in my opinion. Still, it should be easy enough for Adam, hopefully, he's nothing special, but she's even less special, I guess. Adam to win. WOO [7]. It's going well tonight! Sophie vs J Marie - HERE WE GO. J Marie Cooper being my favourite of everyone, singing one of my favourite songs of all time. WOW. That was probably the best battle yet, superb. Ridiculous that one of these should go, but J Marie still for me!! BOO [3]. NOOO MY FAVOURITE OUT SO EARLY. :( David vs John James - One of the best battles over the whole two nights, if not the best. I think I slightly prefer the tone of David's voice, a lot more silky and gritty. John James's voice was more... Matt Cardle. So, just edging it, David to win. WOO [8]. 8 WOOS, 3 BOOS. NOT BAD NOT BAD. Edited April 22, 201213 yr by Robot Reloaded
April 22, 201213 yr Sophie Vs J Marie, was the highlight performance tonight, I really thought J Marie would walk it, hopefully she can still get a record contract somewhere down the line, but that was a great battle performance.
April 22, 201213 yr I don't actually like these battle rounds in general. The selling point of the show is completely lost... the point was originally that the judges don't base their decision on anything other than the vocals - but then they get to pair them off into battles where they can just get rid of anyone they thought "oh shit" to when their chair spun round in the previous shows.

It's hard to know quite WHERE to take it after this. The selling point of the show is about the voice, but once they've turned around - where do they go? They have to do something to whittle down the numbers, but they obviously know the faces. I do understand what you mean, and I do agree, it's just hard to know quite HOW to keep the selling point of the show after the audition stage.
April 22, 201213 yr Such a shame Kate went she was still my favourite, but when she was eliminated I thought it was brilliant how polite she was! :D My favourites tonight were Becky and Sophie I think. Frances was good too! Joelle, Bo and Becky are my favourites at the moment, but I'm looking forward to hearing everyone sing on their own in the live shows so I can properly see who my favourites are :D
April 22, 201213 yr Adam vs. Denise 'Use Somebody' Adam's voice is hilarious. It's so monotonous and too deep to the point he shouldn't be having a career as a singer. I can't help but laugh whenever I heard him sing lol! Denise was good though. Wrong choice from Tom. Ah well. None of them are going to win, so it doesn't matter. J Marie vs. Sophie 'Firework' Loved J Marie's audition and it's clear she's got a powerful voice and she won't take this competition lying down! Sophie was flat in a lot of the places in the song and J owned her for the most part. (Even if she was, in parts a bit OTT and shouty) but she has a presence on stage. He made the wrong decision, but hopefully he'll work with Sophie and get her to not be so monotonous and manage to stop her from being flat. Woo for The Saturdays 'Higher' playing in the background. The Saturdays FT#1. Carly Rae they're going to come for you :kink: David vs. John 'Dakota' That was a surprisingly strong battle. I have a new found love for 'Dakota' now as I always passed it off as "rubbish", very good battle and I would personally pick David, as he shone brighter than John. David will be a contender for the win I'd imagine. There's something that gives me a "Matt Cardle" vibe off of him. Battle performances: 01. Barbara vs. Leanne 'Edge of Glory' 02. David vs. John 'Dakota' 03. Becky vs. Indie & Pixie 'Irreplaceable' 04. Ruth vs. Ben 'I Wanna Dance With Somebody' 05. J Marie vs. Sophie 'Firework' 06. Cassius vs. David 'Beat It' 07. Aleks vs. Emmy 'Broken Strings' 08. Frances vs. Kate 'Ironic' 09. Hannah vs. Murray 'Kids' 10. Adam vs. Denise 'Use Somebody' 11. Matt & Sueleen vs. Lindsey 'Born To Run' A couple of potential winners showed up tonight!

I do understand what you mean, and I do agree, it's just hard to know quite HOW to keep the selling point of the show after the audition stage. I do see what you're saying and I probably agree too. They could have just chosen 5 each but then there wouldn't be enough to make a decent show... plus without the battle stage I guess the public wouldn't have any time to familiarise themselves with any of the contestants. I just see this pretty much turning into X-Factor now (without the histrionics (hopefully!)) which is a shame.
April 22, 201213 yr Yesterday's show was so dull and predictable! Tonight's was less so, and more of the contestants that I liked from their auditions got through. Becky was by far and away the best, but I also loved Max Milner (the only one from last night that I did) [EDIT: Oh and Bo Bruce was good! :D], Frances Wood and Sophie Griffin. I'm so glad that Ben Kelly is no longer in the competition! He was so annoying - although Samuel Buttery is still in and is even more annoying (plus his performance last night was one of the worst serious performances that I've ever seen on a talent show). Tom has made some really bad choices overall too... Edited April 22, 201213 yr by THEO.
April 22, 201213 yr Well, good that Ruth-Ann and Hannah got through, I thought Ruth-Ann had improved SO much from her audition, and I saw Hannah live last night so I already have a bit of an affinity for her. :kink: Most of the battles went the right way I think, all the weak contestants have been eliminated now, well, the majority of them. Much better episode than what I saw of Saturday's episode earlier today.
