I reckon Something About The Way You Look Tonight would have been lucky to have been a 100k seller in its own right! Heartbeat may have sold 300k as a single a-side purely because of their status at the time, but I still think that had Tragedy been released by itself (bearing in mind that it was available on no studio or compilation album until late 1999) it would have still got to a million.

I still think SATWYLT would've sold quite a lot, I think SATWYLT gets more airplay than CITW now? although obvs the latter carried it to a million

I actually knew Tragedy was a Bee Gees song before I knew Steps covered it (and 1999 was the year I first got into music :o )

Alan Carr returns on the 30th of October. The first guests are Nicole Scherzinger & Matt Cardle. I think Nicole Scherzinger will be releasing her new song to radio soon and promote it on the xfactor.

Beyonce - Best Thing I Never Had #40 It's been reduced to 59p

Beyonce - Countdown #90

Also all Lady Gaga songs have been increased to 99p again so expect the songs to start falling now.

I'm a bit surprised Marry the Night didn't enter the top 1000 with being 59p.

Is Nicole's next single a brand new song or another one off her album? If it's a new song, I hope it sounds more like the Pussycat Dolls's music.

Nicole's next single is a brand new song, I think she will re-release the album as Killer Love is also getting an American release as well.

Also Matt Cardle is falling already, Lmfao have closed the gap to 1.9% after being 3% behind this morning.

I know you do I was just explaining why the Steps version is held in such high regard too. It was literally EVERYWHERE. I'm not sure quite how old you were at the time but I suspect you maybe are a little too young to remember the complete madness that surrounded the song.

An as for splitting its sales because it was a double a side, Tragedy was the clear favourite but all my friends still liked Heartbeat. And iirc Heartbeat was initially promoted MORE than Tragedy.

I always preferred Heartbeat over Tragedy! But Steps did a great version and one of the Gibb brothers did indeed comment that it was a very well done cover.

I think the Heartbeat video came out first, I seem to vividly recall seeing it for the first time on a Channel 4 show , it might well have been Popworld.

I remember when Heartbeat/Tragedy CLIMBED to number 1, I think it was just after Christmas, back then I was an avid chart fan and listened to the chart every week, having NO IDEA what the number 1 was until the second it was played, the week it climbed which was very exciting, as it wasn't too common, the dj read out all these clues about how many dropped songs, how many climbers and I remember working out as songs were played 'OMG that means Steps are number 1!' They only ever had two didn't they? That and 'Stomp' which I remember everyone at the time saying is SO different for Steps! When really now looking back isn't that different at all!

I thought Stereo Heart had a suspiciously slow start, that's much more like it, everyone I know loves it, what were the peaks for Clothes Off and Cupid's Chokehold? I can't remember

Yes only 2 no.1s but some (Chain Reaction, One For Sorrow) were pretty unlucky getting pitted against some big name no.1s. I just remember they always did Heartbeat on tv shows like Blue Peter, yet Tragedy was getting the most radio play until they realised people loved it and then they'd always do Tragedy everywhere.
