in terms of talent, 2010 was possibly the best ever year for XF :o the final 4 are all good in their respective genres - granted Matt's not got off to a great start, but the song is poor, hopefully the album will be better and do well for him

2008 was the best ever year - talent like Alexandra, JLS (before they turned shit), Diana, Laura, Rachel and Ruth all in one year was and still is unheard of.

Having said that, this year came really close before that dumbass girl Kelly Rowland got rid of Amelia!

Ruth was my favourite from 2008. She's so hot, but it was funny how Simon used to always flirt with her. And she was such a good singer aswell! I can't believe she kept getting in the bottom two! :o But she did really well in the end.

2008 was also very good although it was spoiled a bit by Eggnog <_< but four (even five) singers who all did excellently in appealing to different markets is something very rare, I'd definitely put it as one of the best years

Sometimes I wish I started watching TXF before 2009 :( 2008 sounds like such a great year, I mean Hallelujah is the best winners single ever recorded

The highlight of that year had to be the Britney Spears week. And when she performed Womanizer (I went on a rant about that a while ago, since I think everybody else in the country hated the performance ). And when Girls Aloud (I miss them so much ) performed The Promise (and Cheryl missed some of her notes which was a bit cringe). They're all so beautiful. And Alexandra crying when she got to perform with Beyonce was funny, and very OTT, but kind of cute.

But other than that it was pretty boring tbh. :coffee: I remember someone from that year MURDERING With Every Heartbeat aswell. :drama: And I remember Diana Vickers performing Girlfriend by Avril Lavigne (it was the most viewed video on Youtube at the time, you know, back before random pop stars like Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber started exploding out of nowhere...).

And one of my favourite performances was when Alexandra Burke did Candyman by Christina Aguilera. And JLS doing Umberlla by Rihanna.

Okay, I'll stop now. It's all flooding back to me. The Brenda year was still my favourite though.

I would've expected something like Tragedy or maybe something like Chain Reaction or Stomp to be selling the most. Although maybe everybody in the country already has Tragedy, or has gotten fed up of it due to the overplay it had.

I don't even recognize some of the songs higher up (at least not by the title), and I thought I liked Steps when I was younger! :o

It's The Way You Make Me Feel was performed on This Morning and that's why it's high. And everyone already owns Tragedy

The lack of love for Say You'll Be Mine and Heartbeat (2nd least popular on the whole album despite being a million seller - technically!) disappoints me but it was expected I suppose :lol: I still can't fathom how Better Best Forgotten is so high, I think it's great but it did really quite badly on the recent BJ Steps rate, the top five of which were;

1. One For Sorrow

2. It's The Way You Make Me Feel

3. Deeper Shade Of Blue

4. Last Thing On My Mind

5. Love's Got A Hold On My Heart

I suppose our results weren't too far away from public opinion looking at how they're ranking on iTunes...there was little separating the top two and One For Sorrow is doing well to say that it wasn't performed anywhere recently!

I used to play Tragedy all the time and run around the house singing it. I probably acted like it was the best song ever made. And I remember my dad telling me off, and he kept going on about how the original version was so much better. As if I was honestly going to care about that (although, to be fair, it probably is, if you don't have nostalgia attached to the Steps version).

Evidently, my attitude to music has not changed much since then. :drama:

I think pretty much EVERYONE about 16-20 now has to have some sort of nostalgia attached to Steps' Tragedy. I know I did, it was one of a few songs I remember being around in primary school (the others being the likes of Jamelia's Superstar and (the chorus only) The Bad Touch)

5,6,7,8 as well. Love that.

Probably if I had to go serious Steps' I'd go for One For Sorrow. But I probably wouldn't have taken any notice of them if they hadn't been doing this Ultimate Collection.

I can remember absolutely hating the Steps version of Tragedy if that counts... Bee Gees original can't be beaten, although the Steps version has semi-warmed to me.
Dont understand how i've only just listened to Skinny Love in full for the first time. LOVE.

Maybe even younger than 16. I just asked by 14 year-old sister what her favourite Steps song was, and she said Tragedy. :D

It's funny because 'Tragedy' isn't even a Steps song.

More appreciation for the far superior original please.
