I realise it's far from the coolest album released in the past few months but this is by far my most listened to album of recent weeks. It's a wonderfully British album that genuinely has no duff moments, it's seriously challenging for my album of 2011 right now, it just evokes so many memories of holidaying among the cliffs and beaches in the South West. It's dreamy stuff.

01 Old Pine

02 Diamonds

03 The Wolves

04 Everything

05 Only Love

06 The Fear

07 Keep Your Head Up

08 Black Flies

09 Gracious

10 Promise

I'd recommend all ten of the above tracks, together with Under The Same Sun and Depth Over Distance for select b-side cuts. Anyone else following him?

For reference, here's his singles to date:

Old Pine:

The Wolves:

Keep Your Head Up (I find the concept of this utterly joyous, if obviously cheap!)

Keep Your Head Up is superb - almost Turin Brakes-ish in parts.

Appreciation needed!

Gave this a listen a few weeks back. Nothing too groundbreaking but a pleasantly decent album all the same. 'Keep Your Head Up' is still probably my highlight.
Keep Your Head Up is one of those songs that were made for long summer evenings.

I can't get enough of this album. It's nothing ground breaking but it's a strong folk album full of tunes that sound instantly familiar and an overall atmosphere that just feels so British.
I love both "Keep Your Head Up" and especially "The Wolves", I should probably buy this - especially as I now live in the county he is from, the wonderful Devon-shire (as Americans keep calling it).

The Fear has actually been play listed by Radio 1. :o

I can't imagine it will do anything in the charts but hopefully it will bring a few more album sales his way. For thread completeness and also because I'm still loving this album quite a lot, here's the b-sides I like the most:

Depth Over Distance

Under The Same Sun

R1 playlisted Keep Your Head Up so I'm not surprised they've supported this.

Never actually heard KYHU (or The Wolves) but I did hear this on R1 the other day. I really like it. Sounds quite Mumford & Sons-y.

Oh, I had no idea R1 playlisted Keep Your Head Up too. I assumed Ben wouldn't be "cool" enough for them.

Why is he not cool?

Got the album this week, decent enough - the wolves and the fear are my favs but there are 4/5 great songs and the others are a bit filler and the fact hes releasing The Wolves in Feb again shows this.

Yeah, clearly not as cool as the esteemed AMBASSADORS of coolness such as One Direction and The Saturdays :o

But seriously, R1 showed massive support for other recent British folk-ish artists (Mumford & Sons, Laura Marling etc.) so I don't see why they wouldn't have supported Ben Howard as well.

Cool was probably the wrong word. I just feel he's more Radio 2 than Radio 1 so surprised they play listed him - For instance, my parents really enjoy this album where as they wouldn't give the time of the day to 95% of what is played on Radio 1.

Ben Howard is the type of artist I would think Fearne Cotton pretends to like to get some cred.

Also, this and Charlie Simpson's album are my favourites of the year.

Do you really think it's half filler? I really think it's consistent from start to end, my rating would be:

10 Old Pine

09 Diamonds

10 The Wolves

09 Everything

07 Only Love

08 The Fear

10 Keep Your Head Up

08 Black Flies

08 Gracious

08 Promise

Glad to see you're enjoying it! I thought you'd really like it when I first heard it. :D

I hope this cute video gets sent out to the music channels for Christmas:

Its on Muzu so maybe but the lanterns and the lights make it perfect for this time of year. Only Love for XMas Number 1!

It's #62 on iTunes at the moment so it should at least be another top 75/100 hit for him. Depends on your definition of 'doing something in the charts' really :P

It's been removed from R1's playlist now though :(
