27.5k is great Tuesday sales for Coldplay - put it this way, they sold over a quarter of their first day sales which included all their (record-breaking) pre-orders and a good chunk of their fanbase. I was expecting it to sell less today if we got sales figures at all. I still think they could be heading for 250k+ but really even another 200k+ opening is fantastic given the sale climate of 2011.

Say that to Adele... 200k is great of course, but it is not "impressive" for them. Given their status and the hype surrounding this album release, they should have been a lot higher. They don't have a single as strong as "Viva la vida" to sell it I guess.

Adele is a complete anomaly this year, it's unfair to compare anyone else to her. I don't believe this album has been anywhere near as hyped as their last one, which ended up selling barely half as much as any of their previous three, so it could easily be argued that their status isn't what it once was. It IS a poorer sales climate now, that can't be argued against, and the album will have either the 2nd or 3rd biggest weekly sale of the year so far depending on whether it beats Lady Gaga or not, and Born This Way definitely had more hype than Mylo Xyloto has! 200-225k is not great, no, but it is still impressive.

You can make anyone look bad by comparing them to Adele, she's sold a good five times as many albums as anyone else this year. She's so far ahead of anyone that it's pointless to bring her name into any comparison. And like RFC says it looks likely to beat Born This Way's sales (or at least come very close to them) and that was a LOT more hyped than 'Mylo Xyloto' ('The Fame' has higher sales than all but one of Coldplay's albums despite being released in a much lower sales climate - and if MX can even come close to VLVODAAHF's sales in an even lower sales climate it's been a huge success IMO).

Anyway, about the actual update, I'm surprised Princess Of China only climbed 2 places today, hopefully should climb into top 30 by Sunday. Not surprised at LH overtaking Paradise, hopefully Paradise won't fall any further. (Although even top 40, let alone top 20 or even top 15, is better than I was initially expecting after it had 6 weeks of disqualification). Sneakbo still holding on, it'd be great if he can stay top 40 but I think he'll end up at about #49.

from radio one midweeks looks like joe mcelderry has dropped out of top 40 but is there anyway we can find out how far he has dropped is there a top 100 albums anywhere just so we know if there is any chance he mit climb back in 2 the bottom of the top 40 by sunday as going by pass weeks he always climbs from the midweeks on please help if u know would really love 2 know how far out of the top 40 he is at the moment thanx

I hope Machine Head stay Top 40 with the metal album of the year. It's a shame their UK placing won't match their chart position in other countries due to the release of the Special Edition Metal Hammer magazine and digital-only release just under a month ago :(

With very rare exceptions we only ever get top 40 information.

The A Team at 20+2 today I see - fingers crossed it can somehow just about manage to cling onto the top 20 (although it's down a place from yesterday). I'm surprised it's so close still, I was assuming it had fallen down to 24-26.

Great to see Noel Gallagher holding strong against a Michael Buble album - although I reckon the coming weeks will see Gallagher fall and Buble either climb to #1 or linger around the T5 for what'll seem like an age. Feeling quite smug about Adele's '21' at #10 really - it's great to see it falling quite a bit in the space of a week, but hopefully it'll stick around in the T10 before Christmas sales begin; would be nice to have it complete an entire year inside the T10.

Singles wise, I find it odd that 'Lego House' has climbed to #12, when 'Paradise' had two versions in the T20 earlier on iTunes. I reckon it'll stall just outside the T10, so I guess it's better that it reaches it's peak now rather than later. 'Paradise' deserves to be doing so much better though, the video is just fantastic and the song has grown to become one of my favourites of the past few months. Hoping 'Princess of China' can climb for a strong debut position, it'll no doubt fall in the coming weeks, so a promising debut would help. I'm guessing it's confirmed as the third single - already at #4 on Polish iTunes.

There's no way '21' will survive in the top 10 for the rest of the year, there's far too many big albums released. It'll be shunted down to a low of about #25 or so and climb back into the top 10 in the new year and maybe grab a couple more weeks at #1 (around the time of the BRITs if no other time).

Also, I think 'Paradise' was still lower than 'Lego House' combined even when it had 2 versions top 20 (Lego House also has another version in the 60s/70s).
