Great sales for Coldplay. But TT's Progress had about 235k in first day last year and it's principal question for rivals between UK bands =)

And yes, I agree with Common Sense. Michael will sell more than Coldplay to the end of 2011 because of XF performance and holiday theme of album.

Coldplay will be the first act to have their first 5 studio albums all debut at #1 right? I'm sure the record for that was a tie between Keane, Arctic Monkeys and Coldplay, all on 4, so a fifth one will put Coldplay ahead of the other two.

Do you mean only groups or solo artists too? Because RW had 7 studio albums in a row and Oasis too, yes

I expect Sneakbo 'The Wave' to knocked off the Top40 by Thursday probably.

95,000?! On a Tuesday update :o :o Amazing coldplay!

and huge sales in the singles chart too, wow sales on the way up?

"Life Thru A Lens" didn't début at #1 though, did it?

Yeah maybe being a bit optimistic there but he'll have some good sales weeks in December. ;)

No shit Sherlock, it's a Christmas album. Predictions that he'll beat Coldplay are optimistic at best, he'll be 200k-odd behind after seven days and "Mylo Xyloto" should stay well ahead of "Christmas" well into November. Plus it'll be a big Christmas seller in its own right, so I think Bublé will have too much to make up.

It did not.

Only if you say about debut week but it was #1 later when Angels had released

I did say debut week :P

Me too. Although I'm thrilled it's done this well. Hopefully it can last until tommorrow for the chart update. And if it does get knocked out, hopefully it's replaced by Beyonce or Drake.

Update in, no change at the top, and yes we have a full albums update today :cheer:

UK Midweek Chart update: Coldplay claim biggest first-week sales since May

10:59 | Wednesday October 26, 2011

By Paul Williams

Coldplay’s Xylo Myloto has needed just two days to achieve the highest first-week album sales in the UK for an entire week since the end of May.

The Parlophone album clocked up 122,508 sales up to the close of business on Tuesday, according to the Official Charts Company, more than any newly-released album has sold in an entire week since Interscope/Polydor’s Lady GaGa album Born This Way debuted at number one with 215,639 sales five months ago.

Xylo Myloto’s total for the week so far is already more than their first album Parachutes sold (70,951) to debut at number one across its first week in 2000, but the first-week tallies of their subsequent albums were significantly higher. The 2002 album A Rush Of Blood To The Head began with 273,924 sales, 2005’s X&Y 464,471 and Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends 302,074 in 2008.

Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, released by Sour Marsh, remains the week to date’s second biggest album, while Virgin’s Professor Green featuring Emeli Sande track Read All About It is the top-selling single with Syco’s fellow new release Earthquake by Labrinth featuring Tinie Tempah in second place.

coldplay are selling well, but not as good as viva la vida. sales will be around 160k by the end of the week

Xylo Myloto?

Great sales for Coldplay, and good to see Kelly is heading for another top 5 album! I hope she can sneak into the top 3 to continue her streak of top 3 albums though.

160K, i'd think more 190-200? With weds, thurs, fri and saturday sales. Its going to sell well over 30,000 in the space of 4 days..

good sales for coldplay 122k after two days... probably end up with 200k-230k by the end of the week.

sales have slowed down obviously as first day sales had huge pre-orders.

1st day 95k

2nd day 27.5k
