October 29, 201113 yr Jedward's 'Under Pressure' was also a #2 by something like 6 copies - behind Owl City on its second week. Not that they'd care at all, they've already had 3 #1s in Ireland - including 'Under Pressure' which was a strong seller over there for quite some time.

It was the third week and the difference was 27,201 not 6 copies, I believe it was behind by 24 copies on the first midweek update only :D
October 29, 201113 yr Going off at a tangent, the unluckiest act to score a number 2 single was Sash, who managed to score 5 in total. Three of these were behind singles that sold over a million copies with another single peaking at number 2 behind a single that sold over 800,000 copies. To add to Sash's unlucky streak of releasing singles at the wrong time, another of his / their singles peaked at number 3 - with both records in front at numbers 1 and 2 being million sellers!

Oofft. :o Frankie Sandford and Rochelle Wiseman have had about 16 top ten singles (five #2's) and not one #1, although they've been #1 three times in the midweeks. Ouch. :(
October 30, 201113 yr And one of The Saturdays' midweek #1s was their cover of Depeche Mode's Just Can't Get Enough. Depeche Mode have 14 top 10 hits without a #1 which I believe is the record. They've never even had a top 3 hit ('People Are People', 'Barrel Of A Gun' and 'Precious' all peaked at #4). Edited October 30, 201113 yr by Bré
October 30, 201113 yr Also Happy, wasn't she ahead most of the week with that? :( Yeah I think so Liam, even up till Friday, but BEP took over on the weekend and was a few thousand sales difference. Love The Way You Lie too ofcourse! #1 of the year but didnt actually make #1!
October 30, 201113 yr I think BEP overtook Leona on the Friday mids? I may be wrong. Mr. Acker Bilk's Stranger On The Shore spent 55 weeks top 50 (17 of those top 10) with a #2 peak (for 3 weeks). http://www.chartstats.com/release.php?release=2868 Like with Love The Way You Lie, was the biggest selling single of the year (in 1962) and is one of the million-selling #2s. The charts in the pre 1969 era (i.e pre BRMB compilation) were not based on sales (the year end charts anyway) they were based on wks on chart/ points allocation system if I recll correctly i.e 50 points for No 1 etc.

October 30, 201113 yr I'm just going off what it says on Wikipedia :P Oh not a criticism just a FYI moment really :D
October 30, 201113 yr It could be said that records like "Stranger On The Shore" and "Please Please Me" by the Beatles (from 1962) were unlucky number 2 hits in that the "official" chart for the 1960s was retrospectively (in 1977) chosen to be the Record Retailer (now Music Week) chart. Until the publication of the first Guinness Book Of British Hit Singles in 1977 and the decision by the original authors of the book to use the Record Retailer chart from 1960 until the launch of the first ever UK official chart in February 1969 both records were commonly held to have been number one hits as both reached the top in every music chart compiled at the time - except for the little known Record Retailer chart. The two main singles charts in the 1960s were acknowledged at the time to be the NME Singles chart and the BBC Singles chart. The latter was compiled by averaging out all the main charts to produce a composite chart. Both records were number ones in both those charts. Edited October 30, 201113 yr by Robbie
October 30, 201113 yr I think BEP overtook Leona on the Friday mids? I may be wrong. I think i remember she was still #1 on the Friday Bre, but I remember having a feeling they'd overtake on the weekend.
October 30, 201113 yr Spice Girls - Stop Geri Halliwell - Look At Me (#2 in the UK charts, with 142,153 copies sold in its first week, just 700 copies behind Boyzone at #1). Victoria Beckham - Out Of Your Mind (The single was tipped to be #1 after a military promotional campaign and a series of record signings. Although the single was midweek #1 until Saturday, Spiller's "Groovejet" (midweek #2) outsold "Out Of Your Mind" by 20,000 copies by Sunday. "Out Of Your Mind" remains the solo-Spice single with biggest sales in its first week, selling 180,584 copies.) Emma Bunton - What I Am (Emma faced strong competition from her former bandmate Geri and her third single, "Lift Me Up". Both sides denied that the clash was deliberate, and they both wished each other well in the battle. However, they were both aiming for the top spot, and Geri was determined to get it, involving herself in a publicity stunt with Chris Evans. On the first day of sales, Geri was ahead by just 200 copies, but managed to achieve the #1 by the end of the week, outselling Emma by 33,000 copies. "What I Am" sold 106,000 copies to get to #2 in its first week and around).
October 30, 201113 yr How many #1s has she had? I Should Be So Lucky, Hand On Your Heart, Tears On My Pillow, Spinning Around, Can't Get You Outta My Head and Slow. So 5.
