November 9, 201114 yr so strange to see them switching beyonce tracks just when "countdown" is starting to climb in the top 40. what the hell?
November 9, 201114 yr Well, Love On Top was confirmed to be her 4th single a while back. I agree though, the timing is a bit strange. Love On Top's release date was in December iirc, and Countdown was only just on the playlist, and wasn't on there for very long. I'm excited for Love On Top though. Hopefully they do like they did with Written in the Stars, every Lady Gaga song, etc. and keep it on the playlist for like 3 months.
November 9, 201114 yr Ahhh! I thought Jason was releasing 'Breathing' next?! pleased it's 'Fight For You' though. My favourite from the album! Nice to see Katy finally added and The Sats up to A-List :D Other than that nothing else intrigues me this week.
November 10, 201114 yr This era for Bey was a bit crap. Her prev album spawned so many classic hits...
November 10, 201114 yr I've never seen a bigger mess of an era than '4' in terms of handling the singles.
November 12, 201114 yr The T-Pain song won't go down well in the UK I think. It's different in the US, where it's doing really well, because nobody really knew the original, but here, the original went top 40 only a year ago, so a lot of people will remember it. Plus, the album it was from was huge aswell. And the autotune sounds so out of place on first listen. Although I have got used to it a bit now, but it's one of those sorts of songs which will make the anti-sampling brigade really, really angry, and the anti-autotune brigade really, really angry, and the anti-rapping brigade really, really angry. I don't think our country is musically tolerant enough for a song like that to be played on a mainstream radio station tbh. But we'll see how it goes. ssooo right, T-Pain & Wiz Khalifa massacred such a beautiful song....
November 12, 201114 yr ssooo right, T-Pain & Wiz Khalifa massacred such a beautiful song.... I'm sure hundreds of thousands of people in the UK think exactly the same thing as you tbh. I don't mind it though. Probably like 90% of what's on my mp3 player samples another song, so that sort of thing doesn't bother me really.
November 12, 201114 yr Why is it that everyone here seemingly thought "Who'd Have Known" was a crap single choice and a poor rip-off of "Shine" when it was released yet as soon as T "flippie floppies"-Pain touches it, it suddenly becomes 'beautiful'?

I still think Who'd Have Known was a crap single choice (although it's a massive improvement over 'Shine' which I hate). It's still a good song, just a very, very poor choice of single (Fuck You was a missed opportunity and a half, could have been almost as big as The Fear IMO). But I have no problem with the sample, as I say it actually works quite well in the context of a T-Pain song. Was 'flippie floppies' a reference to I'm On A Boat? Edited November 12, 201114 yr by Bré

I've noticed that aswell. Not just in this case, but in general, songs always suddenly become "classics" when a chart hit samples them.

Was 'flippie floppies' a reference to I'm On A Boat? Haha, it was indeed :D I'm not fond of "5 O'Clock" by any means but that's because I think it's a lazy sample and T-Pain's verses don't redeem it. The idea of sampling the first couple lines of a song's opening verse has worked well once that I can remember. And that was "Stan", which will never be matched. At least "Thank You" was vaguely interesting in the first place, "Who'd Have Known" is not IMO.
November 12, 201114 yr "who'd have known" was good but not great as a single. i can see why they released it though - to at least get some diversity in her single choices rather than just all totally upbeat but beyonce's "4" on the other hand... what the hell are they doing??? this is the messiest release schedule i've seen for a pop artist in ages (maybe ever?). it's like they just have no faith in developing any of the songs with long-term promo or performances and are just throwing everything out there in the hopes that miraculously one will become a hit (hint to label: that rarely happens, especially after a flop first single...)

I think with Beyonce's album, if they wanted a hit, they'd get one song, and promote the HELL out of it. I don't know what they're doing really tbh. I think they've either looked at the mainstream music tastes atm, and realized none of the songs can be hits atm, so they're just doing whatever, or because of her pregnancy, they're not doing one song at a time, or perhaps they're trying this out, seeing if her having a lot of well-known songs might lead to more album sales.
