Posted November 13, 201113 yr Just wondering if anyone wanted to share any current hits in certain countries that they'd like/they think could be big in 2012 in the UK? Aura Dione's Geronimo sticks out for me, so so catchy, it's been number 1 in Germany and Denmark (where she is from) and also top 2 in Austria. Avicii's Levels will definitely be at least moderately big, especially with Flo Rida sampling it in Good Feeling (it's also got good pre-orders). Also Somebody That I Used To Know by Gotye & Kimbra - first it started in Australia (number 1 for 8/9 weeks) and has now spread to be number 1 in Belgium and Netherlands, I can see Radio 1 potentially loving it! November 13, 201113 yr I can definitely see 'Levels' and 'Somebody That I Used To Know' being UK hits in 2012. I don't see how Geronimo would be though, I could never imagine it doing well in the UK.
November 13, 201113 yr Avicii "Levels" could be a big top 5 hit over here :D I haven't heard that Gotye song but it sounds like it could be a small hit here if it did 8 weeks in Australia
November 13, 201113 yr Eric Saade feat Dev - Hotter Than Fire, with Radio 1 support of course which it would never get. Agree about Gotye, definitely one to watch. I think Agnes Obel's Riverside could be big if used on an ad campaign or something, very much in the keeping of what's popular at the moment, it just needs a push. Aura won't get a push here, I Will Love You Monday was huge in Denmark and the Germanic speaking countries too but was never given a push in the UK.
November 13, 201113 yr Yeh, I really wouldn't mind Geronimo (or Friends, which I think HAS to be the second single) becoming a hit over here, but she's so different and would probably flop, so I don't think they'd try. :( I would like Somebody I Used To Know to be big here, but I can't see it happening right now, although it might get support, it just seems so strange that it could be a hit. Riverside I can see happening if it's given a push, but they might have left it too late.
November 13, 201113 yr Obviously because of BJSC I would be more than delighted to see Gotye feat. Kimbra and Agnes Obel's tracks do well in the UK. Both could easily be big top 10 singles if promoted effctively. I believe 'Somebody That I Used To Know' is getting its UK release in Feb 2012 so I'm hoping this will become a monster hit here just like many other countries over the last few months.
November 13, 201113 yr Looking at the YTD top 20, Someone Like You, Price Tag, Grenade, On the Floor, Rolling in the Deep, The A Team, S&M, The Lazy Song, I Need a Dollar, Sweat and Do It Like a Dude all existed back in 2010. Some had been performed on TV, some had leaked onto the Internet, some were album tracks from 2010 albums, some had been hits in other countries. That's 11 out of 20. And there's others like Party Rock Anthem, Beautiful People and Mr. Saxobeat which existed as early as January. So, my point is, this is a good thread, since most of the biggest hits of 2012 are probably already floating around on the Internet somewhere. Personally though, I honestly don't have much of an idea of what could be a hit here next year. Maybe Domino by Jessie J? I agree that Levels by Avicii could be a big hit. He's got popular for the Leona Lewis thing, and now there's Flo Rida aswell. The song has just been released in the US, and it's doing well on iTunes. Edited November 13, 201113 yr by Eric_Blob
November 13, 201113 yr Surely Marlon Roudette - New Age has to be one. HUGE in the German speaking countries, and it's a really sweet and catchy little song from the first album of the lead singer from Mattafix. Now obviously they were much bigger in Europe than the UK but I think the quality of the song will get it lots of Radio 2 airplay. Maybe he's more of an albums artist though, I don't know...
November 13, 201113 yr I would also mention Hangover by Taio Cruz as well. I'd imagine it will be Avicii Vs Taio for potentially the first UK #1 of 2012. Gotye is an obvious hit IMO, Radio 1 are bound to support it and the video is quite unique. It wouldnt surprise me if they cut down the first verse though (for radio). It really wouldn't surprise me if it reached #1 either. I did think about Marlon Roudette but not sure if would do well here. As for Geronimo I actually think it could do quite well here but like goodelta said, it probably wouldn't get a push here so we will never know. Your Da One by Rihanna and Domino by Jessie J are potentially big hits as well too.
November 15, 201113 yr I know it will be 5 years old in 2012 but I really think that Sarah Dawn Finer's I Remember Love could be a huge UK hit if given a push now, it's such a strong and anthemic piano ballad!
