There's obviously been a breakdown in communications, I agree with you.

I can't see Marcus having a long term career after this.

Because he clearly isn't as obviously marketable as One Direction/Cher Lloyd were? Also it's a judgement off the back of the sorts of performances that he's been doing. Cher and One Direction had a consistent theme that had an obvious sector within the single-buying public. Moves Like Jagger et al aside, can you really see the genres represented in Marcus's performances in the last few weeks really being that commercially successful?

Cher was not obviously marketable though. She did white girl rapping (and not particularly well either). They struck gold with the (AWFUL) music they found for her which clearly has a niche but it was hardly a foregone conclusion that she would make it as a popstar. There is on the other hand a big gap in the market for a young, sexy male who can sing pop music. Introducing MYMARCUS COLLINS. *.*

To be fair I think we're all OVERPLAYING Cher Lloyd's success. The album's sold less than Matt Cardle's (and he's been slated as a flop from all quarters), and even her #1 single was a #1 by default really. In terms of sales, she's actually BARELY (if indeed at all) surpassing DIANA VICKERS.

I would be looking more at JLS or Leona as relevant examples if we're talking how to launch an X Factor artist. You DON'T always hit gold by just aiming yourself at the 12 year old brat brigade.

Let's face it, X Factor hasn't launched a credible, successful solo star in quite a while now.

Not STRICTLY true. I know we all hate him because he has a cheeky grin instead of a vagina, but Olly Murs has done pretty well for himself as a LOCAL act. One Direction aren't doing badly themselves at the moment, although I'm not convinced they're a long term prospect (the fact that the current single is already plummeting down the chart does not bode well).

I know of course that NEITHER quite match up to Leona Lewis in terms of success, but let's face it that was a one-off and I think we all need to appreciate that it's not likely to happen again for a LONG time.

I thought the winners' single was getting released on 11th December after the winner has been announced on The X Factor.

The press release for the final has come out. Four hour final, and it says the winner's single will not be released until after Christmas. Nothings been confirmed yet, but it does look like it won't be competing for Xmas Number 1.

It'll be nice to see the Xmas #1 competition back again. Plus, hopefully this will mean we might get an original song as our winners single.
It's probably to stop those campaigns going against it I reckon ... and if they do it after Christmas when sales are lower and people are getting iTunes gift voucher's etc., it's pretty much a shoe in for #01.

If it's released after Christmas, won't the single have lost it's momentum by then?

How long was the wait between Will Young winning Pop Idol and the single getting released? I'm sure in that case the final of Pop Idol was in early 2002 with the single released 2 weeks later.

It all seems really amaturish this year as if someone has completed messed up the dates but it's too late to change anything.

Bit late to say that now. Where will the competition come from? We'll end up with some generic Rihanna album track at Xmas no.1. I still think we should campaign for Moves Like Jagger to get there, if only to piss Bre off.
Marcus is not boring but Gary has turned him into a dull, not threatening,

I'd like him to threaten Gary with an axe.

I'd like Gary to threaten me with HIS axe JANOWWADDAMEAN?!

credible?

HA!

I haven't read all of the Marcus conversation but I LOVE HIM. HE'S SO PRETTY. I watched him flash his abs on YouTube TWICE. However, as much as I love him and his versatility (...), he strikes me as very Joe McElderry. I think if he won he wouldn't be much more successful and that's unfortunate because I want to decorate my bedroom with several maxi posters of his face.

I still reckon it will come out before xmas, the momentum will have completely died off after xmas and they'll get the #1 but lose literally hundreds of thousands of sales, can't see that happening. I still think it will be up for download immediately after the final.

In the unlikely event that it was released after xmas then who knows who the xmas #1 will go to? The campaigns won't be necessary and so won't work and nothing on the release schedule strikes me as an obvious xmas #1 (Wishing On A Star will have dropped away by then).
