No sign of will youngs Come on single?

Im not surprised michael jacksons album is failing! Im a die hard fan and im not buying it! How many times do the want to sale, sale, resale, resale and RESALEEEE his hits!!!

They should be ashamed!

To be fair Michael Jackson's 'Immortal' album isn't a greatest hits album as such. It is roughly speaking the soundtrack to the Cirque du Soleil show, which is currently touring the US and Canada. Of course it does feature the hits but they're accompanied by album tracks and are not in their original format. They take the form of remixes and mash-ups, and the album also includes voice clips, previously unreleased alternative versions to songs as well as unheard material. I do think that this is a 'legitimate' means to promote the catalogue (certainly much better then churning out yet another repackaged greatest hits), and it's not the first time this has been done. Cirque du Soleil released Elvis and Beatles soundtracks to accompany those shows in the same way.

A soundtrack album for a show that nobody in the UK has seen because it's not touring in the UK yet, released in the Xmas buying season with no promotion at all is dead in the water before it's started, so it shouldn't be any surprise to anybody that this album isn't setting the charts alight. People can't buy an album they know nothing about. There wasn't even a single copy on the shelves of my local (very large) Tesco when I went there yesterday.

I am a fan of Michael Jackson's music but won't be buying this album until AFTER I see the show. The reason being that the music is such an integral part of the experience and it will be better to discover it on that day. It won't be the same if I know it already.

Can I be a pain and ask what's happened to the Coldplay and Snow Patrol albums today? I fear Snow Patrol will be out of the top 10 already... hope at least Coldplay can hold up over Christmas.

Not sure why the Saturdays are getting such a bashing on here - they're harmless aren't they? I've heard the new album and thought it was pretty good - nothing spectacular, just decent catchy mainstream pop. In terms of having loony fans, they're hardly on the same scale as Justin Bieber or Lady Gaga so why all the baiting? :(

Coldplay 4+3

Snow Patrol 5+5

Can't believe Rihanna might sneak in and steal the singles crown at the end of the week again! Looking well on course for the number one album unless One Direction fans suddenly rush out in their droves and catching up with Olly too, would be some heck of a double if she pulls it off. Number one single and album is special at any time but when it's been number 1 previously for so long it would be astonishing!

SO pleased to see Will holding up well in the albums despite Come On's criminal underperformance. Platinum by the end of the year? I do hope so.

Might be worth mentioning 'Up All Night' is set to be a Black Friday deal at some point this week on Amazon, probably the £1 CD like Progress and Susan Boyle was last year. Last year stock was limited to just a couple of hundred of each I think but either the deals aren't as popular as last time or they have more stock, which if the case might be a little booster to One Direction's album. If it's a £1 I might try get it myself :heehee:

i'm praying that Rihanna will stay at no1 and knock poo factor Olly from the top by the end of the week.

£1? Don't albums need to have a minimum price for them to be counted? Around £3.99 I think I read before, might be wrong though.

The minimum price relates to what the retailer pays. They can sell it for whatever price they like.

I think what you're remembering is Billboard just announced they won't be counting albums sold at less than $3.99 in the US chart.

westlife sales??

WE DON'T HAVE ANY, STOP ASKING

The Saturdays' arn't doing too badly when you put it into perspective.

New releases from Rihanna, OD and Westlifes break-up album not to mention HUGE albums that are still selling extremely well (Adele, Ed Sheeran) as well as GaGa performing on X-Factor last week and on Alan Carr...

I reckon they might come in with 22,000 or so opening figures which arn't too diss-similar to their other albums sales (maybe slightly better).

Also, don't forget they sold over 2,000 copies of the deluxe version £18.99 and 2.5k of MHTO signed single copies at £2.99 all plus postal charge of £1.99.

Also, their tour is almost sold out across a number of dates, they are the faces of Ninetendogs & cats, New Nail vanish range, Sold out initial Tee's in Miss Selfridge and generate huge amounts of money through mags and they did lots of festivals this year again earning an income....

TBH...they seem to make more money from everything but their actual music...This isn't the end for them at ALL.

Ohh one last point...Not sure who said it but The Saturday's clearly sell outside their fanbase too, take All Fired Up sold 70kish on release week, definitely selling to outside the fanbase. They just need more hits like Higher & All Fired up songs that stand out.

Maybe if the Saturdays announce they are splitting, they might get a top 10 album in the end :D :heehee:

Source? I didn't know the number of deluxe versions printed was even known, let alone knowing how much they'd shifted of them.

The tour isn't almost sold out at all, they're struggling to sell most of their tiered seating, and at some dates floor seating is still available. "Generating huge amounts of money through mags" is a new one to me.

"They're the faces of Nintendogs" is probably my favourite justification for their midweek position so far this week.

Wow great album sales for both Rihanna and One Direction, and single sales too, Rihanna will be top next update, if not friday.

What were Loud's opening sales?

The latest Now That’s What I Call Music album has broken through 130,000 sales just two days after release to outsell the rest of the top 200 compilations combined.

The EMI TV and UMTV release Now! 80 had shifted 134,607 copies by the end of business on Tuesday, according to Official Charts Company figures, around 114,000 copies more than the next biggest compilation, UMTV’s Pop Party 9. Sales so far this week of compilations ranking between positions two and 200 in the market total 123,741 units, about 11,000 units fewer than Now! 80 has sold on its own.

The Now! release will easily become the week’s biggest album seller overall as it is already more than 45,000 sales ahead of Def Jam/Mercury’s newly-issued Rihanna album Talk That Talk, which leads the artist albums market. Around 13,000 sales behind Rihanna in second place on albums is Syco act One Direction first album Up All Night, while the RCA-issued Westlife album Greatest Hits is third, making the top three sellers all new releases.

I can't believe the sales for Now 80 are that high :o Does anyone know what Now album has the highest first week sales by any cahnce?

Also :cheer: for Avicci being Top 5, hope it can hold out, or even climb as it's showing no signs of stalling just yet. It's just a pity Fade Into Darkness didn't do anything.

Rihanna appears to be quickly decreasing the sales margin with Olly Murs, let battle commence.
