Every day, there's a chart report somewhere with a basic mistake in it... and so they continue:

 

Yesterday, the OCC said Jason Derulo's single will be a re-entry, even though it hasn't been in the top 40 yet. (It's moved 58-43 so far.)

Today, Music Week calls the X Factor's Mariah Carey cover 'Heroes', as if it were the same as last year's Bowie cover, instead of 'Hero':

Cher's holding up better then i expected :D Hopefully she will get a few more weeks top 40. :D

For the past 2 days the X Factor single has been selling roughly around 12k for Tues & 12k for Weds when you calculate the difference per day, if it carries on like that, I make the total roughly 115k plus for the end of the week. It might just drop a bit more towards the end of the week though it might end up between 110 to 115k.

 

And I see Olly is gaining on the iTunes pop bars, its pretty close, bearing in mind he has no physicals attached.

Wouldn't 115k be seen as quite poor?

I really hope this is XFF's only week at #1, next week could be an interesting three-way battle between Flo Rida, Olly and Rihanna. Heroes last year sold 70k-ish on week 2 to hold #1, it'll be lower for Wishing On A Star but I wouldn't be too surprised to see it hold #1 by default on low sales anyway as I doubt any of those three will be over 60k or so :(

 

Olly at 35k at this stage - what's he likely to have sold by Sunday? A second week over 60k at least would be good, this will be his first single to spent more than a week in the top 2 in any case. It should be back at #1 on iTunes very soon (he's already there combined though). I hope DWMT has at least as much longevity as 'Thinking Of Me'. Great to see Heart Skips A Beat climbing, what's its exact position today?

 

Surprise Bublé hasn't closed Olly's lead at all today, I think Olly could stay ahead now. I hope he does anyway. His debut was really unlucky to be released in the way of a monster, it sold over 100k four weeks in a row despite never selling 110k+ in any one week (ICYDK should beat OM's debut week comfortably but I doubt it'll sell as much or as consistently).

 

The Pogues up another place from yesterday :D Both of its versions have suddenly surged to the top 40 on iTunes now so it's definitely aiming to match or beat its #27 position this week last year. Mariah is up to #20 :mellow: It got #22 this week last year, probably won't match that but it'll probably be top 30. (I wonder what caused the huge surges for both? EDIT: All of the Xmas songs have had massive surges :o)

 

Maroon 5 still holding onto the top 10 :( I assume it's ahead of Drake, I really hope Drake can just nudge it out but it still has the weekend effect so will probably hold #10 anyway or even climb back to #9 -_- Even better than Drake kicking them out would be 'It Will Rain' or 'Paradise' (my two favourite songs at the moment) knocking it out, the latter is pure wishful thinking territory but the former could happen if it can go top 10 on iTunes sooner rather than later.

I'm a little suspicious of that. Why would a new album that should be very frontloaded, match one that should be increasing day by day?

Also if sales are low for XFF next week this weekend TV could deterine the no1, songs by Beyonce ETC could climb the chart, or maybe that would just affect the album chart?

This is interesting, it seems the first of December causes a surge because of the day itself - afterwards they usually steady off in a mid month lul whereby they stay in a similar position for 2 weeks before being boosted in xmas week itself.

It is her EP sales (and the very few 'cherrypicks' of WC itself), it's just charting under the name 'White Christmas' instead of 'A Very Gaga Holiday' for some reason.

I think its a mistake. Obviously I have no idea what the gap is one way or another but surely the gap wouldn't be exactly the same two days running . Maybe they cut and pasted it from yesterday :)

People are opening advent calendars, putting up decorations and starting to think seriously about Christmas, so they must be adding Christmas songs to their playlists too. (Although the effect gets a little bit smaller year by year. I wonder how much of this is due to the waning popularity of Christianity and how much is simply because so many people have the big tracks already. I'm not really sure how much connection there is between religion and Fairytale of New York anyway!)

Why not? If they sold roughly the same amount as each other in one day, the gap remains the same. That could easily have happened.

Interesting to see Derulo jump into the top 20 - it certainly has picked up this week (all the way to #11 on the iTunes chart). I'll put it down to R1 picking up the track and seemingly playing it non-stop (alongside Kelly Rowland and Adele). I'm not complaining though, I didn't think he'd get a third hit from 'Future History', let alone another potential top 10 - wonder if the album'll benefit from its success - it's certainly flopped in comparison to the gold-selling debut.

As I said I have no idea what they have sold but for it to be EXACTLY the same just seems odd. You're right it could be roughly the same, anything is possible but I just see it as unlikely they sold exactly the same amount of copies.

 

MW do make a lot of mistakes. I guess we'll know if they give us any sales info tomorrow.

Christmas has had pretty much bugger all to do with Christianity for years. It's just that people have already downloaded them before so the effect naturally wanes over time. I suspect the effect will end up plateauing (is that a word?) at some point. I'd like to think The Pogues are guaranteed at least a week top 40 every year indefinitely :P
