Posted November 30, 201113 yr 'X-Factor' winner set to cover Damien Rice's 'Cannonball'? http://www.nme.com/news/damien-rice/60666 X-Factor' winner set to cover Damien Rice's 'Cannonball'? Source says all four remaining contestants have recorded a version of the big-selling ballad The X-Factor winner is set to release a cover of Damien Rice's 'Cannonball' as their debut single, according to tabloid reports this morning (November 29). The competition ends on December 11, with whoever is named the winner releasing their debut single that same night. The track will need to secure two weeks at Number One to become the Christmas chart topper as the Christmas Number One will be announced on December 25 itself this year. According to The Sun, all four remaining contestants in the competition have recorded a version of 'Cannonball', which one of three tracks being considered for release. A source told the paper: "It's one of three songs being considered for release. The acts are still recording the different options but Cannonball has a good shot. After reworking Leonard Cohen's 'Hallelujah' for Alexandra Burke then Biffy's track 'Many Of Horror' for Matt last year, it's the next step. It would be a safe bet to sell well in the run-up to Christmas". 'Cannonball' peaked at Number 19 when it was released as a single in 2004, but has been in constant use ever since on television and film. In 2010, X-Factor winner Matt Cardle covered Biffy Clyro's 'Many Of Horror' when he won the competition, with 2008 winner Alexandra Burke covering Leonard Cohen's 'Hallejulah' as her debut release. =================== Is this a actually true
November 30, 201113 yr I don't think this IS true, I thought there were 4 songs, one for each act left. EDIT: Just fully read report which states that this is the case, so probably IS true then!
November 30, 201113 yr Author I don't think this IS true, I thought there were 4 songs, one for each act left. That's what I thought, I can't see Little Mix or Marcus singing a version of the track, it seems out of their comfort zone.

November 30, 201113 yr So much for Mr Bitter Barlow writing the winners song... Exactly. I thought the deal was done and Gary was writing, or has written, the winner's song. (Not to be confused with The Winner's Song, which he wrote before. Perhaps he felt he couldn't better it?!)
November 30, 201113 yr Excuse me while I cry that another one of my favourite songs will be defecated on then rubbed in my face on music TV/Radio
November 30, 201113 yr I hope it isn't true - the song is brilliant as it is... and I can't see it really suiting the finalists without changing it and butchering it

Buckley's didn't sound Christmassy enough, it was too dull. It was then I realised, they aren't listening to the actual song. They just hear Hallelujah and think its a hymn. Then of course changing the title of Many of Horror but we still got a Christmas number one that chanted 'Many of Horror' as its bridge. This year will be no different. November 30, 201113 yr I'll never understand the logic behind x factor re-releasing a song only a few weeks after its been in the charts. Surely, its too much effort for Cowell and Co to release an original song?

'Life taught me to die', listen to that when eating your turkey, It's hardly a surprise that X-Factor people miss the sentiment of a song - all they think about is $$$ and how well it will sell.
November 30, 201113 yr I like the X Factor, but 'O' is my favourite album of all time, the thought of one of damien rice's songs being used makes me feel sad......
November 30, 201113 yr It's appeared on Now! 79 did it not? Along with Goo Goo Dolls' 'Iris'. I'm hoping this isn't the case - surely it'd be better to do what they did last year and have all four artists record their own cover - that way it's a better representative of their voice (i.e. the songs Misha B and Little Mix sing are completely different).
November 30, 201113 yr What they SHOULD do is write an original song, as they supposedly said they were going to months ago...
