What does unsigned mean any more though? What is a record label? If you release a record yourself aren't you in a way signed to your own record label?

You can get odds of 66/1 for Alex Day to be Xmas #1 on William Hill, shame each way isn't available as even if he managed to top the iTunes chart Military Wives' CD sales will be enough to seal the deal comfortably for them. Looking likely for top three though isn't he!

Yes he is, I never saw Alex Day coming until this morning though, really surprised how well he is doing.

Well, Wikipedia says Koopa were the FIRST band to get into the charts unsigned (I guess it must have been impossible to do so beforehand? I don't know, just seems odd that it only first happened recently).

Do the Must Be The Music hits count as unsigned?

There was somebody else that reached top 40 end it was a brother/sister act, I can't remember the name of the act, they had 2 hits in the 40 unsigned.

Little Mix aren't falling anymore. Coldplay sell as much as 80.6% they are for now.

I think Little Mix are dead cert for #2 this week, with Alex Day at #3 (WOW) and Coldplay at #4. That said, Alex Day could fall massively since tomorrow.

And I don't get how Military Wives can be in red already? Surely they can only gain sales, as there's nothing to discount?

I reckon MW/Alex for the top 2 with LM at 3, Nirvana at 4 and Coldplay 5. Thats depending on whether the campaign starts making more of a impact of course.

I wonder if it's the case that once the pre-orders are taken into account, there aren't that many people downloading it. Little Mix & Coldplay are actually catching up.

I think it's fair to say Nirvana won't go top 5 now :( I'm just hoping for it to at least go top 10 at this point. Should have seen this coming since the big rise in Facebook fans which was expected to occur about 2 weeks ago never happened and it's been crawling up since it hit about 80k but I still thought it'd be doing better than this.

So yeah, Coldplay will be #4 behind Military Wives, Little Mix and Alex Day in that order and probably Lloyd or Olly Murs completing the top 5.

This is what I think. At the end of the day I think the vast majority of their download sales will just be the pre-orders. I really wouldn't be surprised if the Wives are only at #1 for a couple of days and will only be low top 10 by the end of the week.

I don't think Nirvana will get top-10. They're climbing not fast enough, and let's face it: there's no point in this campaign when we have a purely non-XF #1.

This is the Alex Day song. It's actually not bad, especially considered that it wasn't recorded in the studio. Yeah, it's not your usual polished song and the video but the guys have put a lot of effort and creativity in it, so well done!

We'll see  The 2nd version is now 96 and I'm sure it'll climb a bit later tonight. I am hoping it doesn't go top 5 though (not that I dislike the song, just that the campaigns are so boring now).

I'm sorry to say this, but it sounds no better than bad karoake to me. :(

Actually the Alex Day track I can take it or leave it, at least its better than MWC
Just listened to that Alex Day song, it's pretty nice! I thought it came out of nowhere but the video has over 2 million views now. Still unexpected to see it doing so well though.

Other new releases:

214. Alexandra Stan - Get Back (UK Radio Edit)

265. Matt Goss - Fighting For Love

285. The Staves - Mexico

I like that video for the Alex Day song - its good because it isn't flashy etc at all.

The songs ok too - hope it actually goes to Number 1 - as it would probably be the most unexpected XMas number 1

Of the top of my head there probably be 5 to 6 charity tracks inside the top 40 by next Sunday, and I thought this country was in a tough recession ^_^

Charitable donations tend to hold up even in depressing economic times, see the amounts raised by Childen In Need and the like each year.
