Hmm, Military Wives massively increased their lead again about 5 hours ago - anyone know why? They're still increasing a bit now. Maybe my prediction of them losing the #1 by today was a bit hasty but I still stand by my promise to eat both of my feet if it's still #1 at the end of the week.

And the iTunes gift card effect will also be pushing loads of old songs back into the top 40 to replace them most likely. I'm expecting all three of Adele's songs back in the top 40 next week, maybe SLY going top 20 again?

The gift card effect should theoretically be the biggest it's ever been as there is a chart week which starts on the 25th (i.e. when people start using their gift cards). Last year I think Christmas day snuck into the end of a chart week and proceeded to completely mess up the chart, with loads of unpredictable last-minute changes.

Yeah the xmas songs dropped massively even though xmas day was on a saturday - so this year the xmas songs should be more stable!!

Will you eat both your feet if MW are still itunes no1 or official no1 by the end of the week?

iTunes - official #1 is inevitable now. I'm just holding onto the hope it'll stay away from the year-end top 10.

I would love to see unreal sales though of like 800k, although that probably aint possible now, unless the cd is selling hundreds of thousands!
Am I the only one getting sick of all these silly campaigns? :(

No, I am too but as long as Cowell is going to campaign through X Factor then I don't mind people coming out to take him down. I like that Cowell can throw all that money into it and be beaten by facebook or youtube Kareoke or even Chris Moyles

is the cascada version of 'last christmas' anywhere to be seen? my preferred version of the song.

My favourite version too! :D Love your profile pic too :kink:

Come on Little Mix - beat the Donkey and the Wives :P

The X Factor songs aren't campaigns though. Nobody is actually being "told" to buy them. Infact, the VAST majority of people that watch the X Factor haven't bought Little Mix's song yet.

Mine too - mainly due to Natalie Horler, though.

It's not in the iTunes T1000 though. :(

From the modest lead it has on iTunes, even top 30 would be remarkable.

It's not really "unpredictable" with regards to the #1. It's obvious already that Military Wives will get it, and it's only Monday.

The Price Tag/Champion/Born This Way week was more unpredictable.

I'm aware that MW will get No.1 easily  , it's the likes of Alex Day and Lou Monte in the Top 5 that I'm surprised at!

Its iTunes sales are only going to be a small fraction of its overall sales though. It's only even #1 on iTunes because it had massive pre-orders (but then it did get a mysterious large boost about 6 hours ago for some reason so I guess there is some download interest in it). The vast majority of its sales will be physical and if people's accounts on here are to be believed it could well shift several hundred thousand CDs...

They advertised the song at the end of the last show and told people it was in shops and that they should buy it. Campaign enough for me.

Well, all the songs in the chart are results of "campaigns" in that case. Everybody advertises their songs.

When do songs usually get reduced to 59p?

At random, and whenever the record company (I presume it's their decision rather than iTunes) feels like it. There could be a number of reasons, if a song is underperforming, if a song is old or if they want to get the song into the charts quickly.

Would've been sensible for them to keep the christmas songs at 59p all month seeing as its christmas. The first thing I don't agree with Itunes for doing.

Haha the Nirvana fans on that campaign are making me laugh so much. They seriously think SLTS will still get number 1

With the big batches of 59p songs which get discounted every couple of weeks, and advertised on the front page, they have to be iTunes's decision. Someone posted an article on it here a while ago iirc. As long as iTunes give the artists, record labels, etc. the same amount of money per sale as they would get if it was the full price, they can discount whatever they want.

Any other random discounts will be the record label's decision, and in those cases they will make less money from each sale than they would if it was 99p, and they won't be on the front page of iTunes.

Little Mix could return to number one next week? Military Wives, Alex Day and Lou Monte will drop off meaning Little Mix would be #1 by default unless Coldplay or another old song climb to #1!

I think Military Wives are likely to just hold it for a second week -_- Coldplay's best chance is the week after that but they're not currently making much progress on Little Mix - they were closing the lead quite quickly but seem to have stalled at around 80% of LM (and in fact are now down to 77% of them). There's still a lot of time to go though and I'm still sure they will have overtaken by then.

Oh I do hope so

What is with this hate campaign agaisnt MW? Who cares if its not very good, people are buying it because they either do like it, or want to help a charitable cause. If 300k bought this, that More than half a million made. Its not even an anti x factor campaign, just a song released at Christmas. uurghhhhhh, it riles me when people get angry over charity. Literally, I knew this was a bitchy board, but you dont just go against something that has the sole aim of helping people. The quicker the naive 14 year olds on this board learn that a number one is nothing to menstruate about, the better.

Fin.
