I've dug out & re-posted the calculations I did earlier this year, as the are obviously more topical now :

Pos 2007 2008 2009 2010 Average

1 to 5 -20% -19% -3% -2% -11%

6 to 10 5% 40% 38% 16% 25%

11 to 20 19% 46% 49% 30% 36%

21-40 20% 53% 41% 21% 34%

41-75 38% 55% 53% 33% 45%

76-200 - - 58% 36% 47%

The % figure represents the change over the pre-Xmas-week chart.

The -ve for the top 5 is obviously due to the heavy drop-off of the XF winners sales.

Also, the effect is greater for the biggest hits of the year.

Moves Like Jagger seems primed to cross the million mark

lol. Why has nobody else posted in this yet?

I also predict the biggest boost will be seen by Someone Like You.

The past two years, we also saw the year-end #1s get big boosts, so I think the same will happen this year.

I also think Party Rock Anthem could see a big boost, especially if it's still 59p during the week.

One version of Party Rock Anthem is just outside the Top 40 on iTunes, so I think it will re-enter the Top 40 quite high with the iTunes gift card as well as 59p! :D
Id say Mr. Sheeran will get a great boost

Well these are performing on the Christmas TOTP:

Example

Professor Green ft. Emeli Sande

Ed Sheeran

Will Young

Olly Murs / Rizzle Kicks

Rizzle Kicks

Pixie Lott

Noah and the Whale

The Vaccines

The Wanted

Little Mix

Plus - prerecorded performances from Adele and Jessie J.

I expect all of the above, but especially Ed Sheeran, Adele and Jessie J will benefit hugely.

Maroon 5/Christina Aguilera will probably get the greatest boost since it is one of the few songs released this year that symbolises music in 2011. Plus, since the album it is from (assuming it is from an album) isn't doing great in the charts, more people will be motivated to download the track as a single - unlike Adele where more people would opt for the album.

I think Jessie J, Adele, Maroon 5/Christina, LMFAO, Rihanna, Ed Sheeran and Christina Perri will all receive boosts. As well as One Direction's 'That's What Makes You Beautiful' and Olly Murs' singles - mainly HSAB.

That's very male dominated. Only Pixie Lott and Little Mix giving live performances! :o And there's no Americans this year? :o

That makes no sense whatsoever. If few other songs 'symbolise 2011' in the way MLJ does then that's NOT the sound of 2011, something else is  The two songs that most 'symbolise' music in 2011 are Someone Like You and Party Rock Anthem, two extreme examples showing both of the major sounds of the year (piano ballads and club bangers). In that way it would be the perfect year-end top 2 as much as I dislike PRA. Moves Like Jagger doesn't really fit into either category.

Moves Like Jagger probably as its the highest, Someone Like You & Party Rock Anthem should re-enter the top 40 as well - I voted all of them for the second option as I'm pretty sure all will return to at least the top 75

Really? 'Club Banger' is *exactly* how I'd describe Moves Like Jagger. :)

MLJ is electro/disco-pop to my ears, club banger is songs like PRA.

Voted of 'Moves Like Jagger' in the first poll and all them (including "other") in the second.

Oh, and MLJ is definitely NOT club banger.

Edited by Arrs

Moves Like Jagger most definitely IS a club banger.

Although I think Party Rock Anthem, or even Give Me Everything would be a better song to represent 2011 music. Most of the club banger songs this year have had rapping in, which MLJ lacks. And Moves Like Jagger doesn't mention alcohol as far as I'm aware.

Like most I've voted for all in the second poll. I put Rihanna for the first one because it's highest now...

Moves Like Jagger is certainly a song very well suited to clubs, but it's not really a club 'banger'.

The way I see it is that MLJ is a pop song that can be danced to in a club, but it's not a club banger as it's not designed with the clubs in mind like PRA. There's no big bassline or anything. Not every uptempo song is a club banger.
