December 18, 201114 yr Author Another Coldplay invasion in the singles chart, 6 entries top 100 :D A little disappointed to see none of their first 4 albums re-entering the T100, they normally do after one of these big Coldplay-related events. But the 160k+ sales of Mylo Xyloto make up for it :D 'Internet Friends' at #89  That's very good for it considering it was only around that number on iTunes for about 3 or 4 days, missing out the biggest sales day. Plus having no promotion and being available for free on their website of course  Two more top 100 hits from Bublé's Xmas album as I expected. Santa Claus Is Coming To Town only just scraped in though. Johnny Cash back in at #70 :D Someone Like You, Set Fire To The Rain and Rolling In The Deep all reclimbing a tad - always good to see :kink: Top 100s will be updated in a little bit~ Ooh, just noticed Matt's album did stay top 40 after all. December 18, 201114 yr Author LMFAO have overtaken Jessie this week, but she could be back ahead again next week after her SCD boost, then it's just down to whoever gets a bigger boost from gidt cards. I suspect it'll be LMFAO leading to them staying ahead for the year anyway. Great to see Mylo Xyloto moving up another place on the album YTDs and Olly and Amy showing up in the top 20 :D I do hope + holds onto the YTD albums top 10 - Rihanna will probably overtake him I should imagine unless there's a big sales gap. I don't think anything else is likely to overtake though so he should be alright. He could end up #10 in both year end charts. (TAT could climb back to #9 in the singles Y/E though). December 18, 201114 yr Very happy for Rebecca staying top 10 with her album  Oh and the single got a 4th week in the top 40, not that bad since she was never going to be a huge single seller.
December 18, 201114 yr It's rather apt for Moves Like Jagger to end 2011 as the #2 of the year really isn't it :D Glad to see What Makes You Beautiful enter the YTD top 20 as it really is one of the best debut pop singles of the year imo. A concerning percentage of the top 10/20 singles of the year were from the first six months of it, have sales for the top sellers really jumped off a cliff in the last few months? I remember in 2009 we had quite a few weeks of 100k+ selling #1's in a row in November/December and into January 2010 even with Iyaz but it's a bit worrying that Olly Murs got to #1 on a sale of under 50k in mid December... I know that songs released later in the year obviously have to play catch up but still, it's not as if anything charting high currently is going to hit the 750k mark any time soon...I know We Found Love has but most of the current big sellers look like they'll go gold and that's about it. I wonder why the really BIG and enduring hits have been lacking in the last few months, two or three songs aside.

December 18, 201114 yr  I guess that wouldn't be bad I just hope they hold LMFAO off :D Haha were you a 1D fan during X Factor Rich. I think the exact same They definitely will, #2 is secured for them now - the next question is, can they pass a million before December 31st? I reckon they can, with the aid of 'gift card week'! Not particularly, but I always appreciate a great pop song whatever the source :D Gotta Be You for example wasn't one of these, its top 100 run compared to that of What Makes You Beautiful, which has reached beyond their fanbase, proves this!

I wonder why the really BIG and enduring hits have been lacking in the last few months, two or three songs aside. I think its more to do with the song than anything. Compared to some years, there haven't been THAT many big releases in the last quarter this year as usual IMO and that has affected overall sales at the top end (not so much longer down though). Only MJL, WFL amongst a few others have been really massive. Plus during the summer there were quite alot of flash in the pan #1s (MLJ was easily the bigger hit than all of them) and none stuck around for long. Even Read All About It has fallen quite quickly. It wouldn't surprise me if the drought continues into the new year either. The schedule looks quite bleak, easily in the first 2/3 weeks of January. There doesn't seem to be a Just Dance, Fireflies or Grenade type of obvious hit yet (of course something unexpected could come out which I haven't thought of)

Hmm I think they'll just miss out personally. You have the exact opinion of 1D as me lol. WMYB was a plesant suprise to hear whereas like you said GBY wasn't an example, it's dull and boring. Didn't go anywhere either so exactly it's chart run in the top 100 shows that they deserved it (and not for good reasons). Edited December 18, 201114 yr by Rob Summers
December 18, 201114 yr I think the big sales in the past couple of years was a lot to do with the X Factor. Like I remember one week N-Dubz were complaining that they charted at #5, but they would've charted at #1 if it weren't for X Factor. If they were right, they'd've been #1 selling like 50,000 too. So basically, I think if the X Factor effect wasn't so big in the past couple of years, the sales at the top of the chart wouldn't be that much better than now. Also, think back to Autumn last year. There were MASSIVE hits being released every week. Only Girl one week, then Written in the Stars the next, Forget You the week after, then Promise This, then Just the Way You Are. It just seemed like there were constantly massive hits being released every week. There just...hasn't this year. 2011 has been really bad. Edited December 18, 201114 yr by Eric_Blob
