Looking at the release schedule, what potential hits do you foresee for the first part of 2012?

Let's see...

2nd January

Michael Kiwanuka - Home Again - top 20 surely with the 'Sound Of...' hype?

Rihanna – You Da One - I think this will peak top 5 when airplay kicks in a bit more, the video alone is looking like a low top 10 peak.

Taio Cruz - Troublemaker - it will take advantage of the low sales and easily go top 10 I think.

16th January

Alyssa Reid feat Jump Smokers - Alone Again - perhaps a 'suprise' top 20 hit a la Lick Ya Down (it won't make top 10 though)? I've heard it a couple of times on Capital.

Swedish House Mafia vs Knife Party – Antidote - top 5 at least, number 1 contender as well I think.

23rd January

Cover Drive – Twilight - obviously won't do as well as Lick Ya Down but it could scrape top 20, as with Troublemaker it will be due to low sales but still...

Lana Del Rey - Born To Die - top 10 easily, and her album will be huge.

6th February

Gotye feat Kimbra - Somebody That I Used To Know - probably wishful thinking on my part that it could go top 10 but I could see it having a similar peak to PUK (maybe less of a good run)

Kelly Rowland feat Big Sean - Lay It On Me - it screams hit and her album's not sold much... Though with the release of DFW she was on the TV of 10 million people a week so that helped...

Coming Soon

Alexandra Burke feat Eric Morillo – Elephant [27th Feb] - I know we've yet to hear it but it's pretty much a certain number 1...

Dappy feat Brian May - Rock Star [13th Feb] - again, yet to premiere but it's such a bizzare collab it'll attract lots of attention I'm sure!

Jessie J – Domino [27th Feb] - Once promo/more airplay kicks in, I'm sure she'll gain at least another top 20

The Saturdays feat Travie McCoy - The Way You Watch Me - It's touch and go atm for them but I can't see how this won't go low top 20 at least. It won't save the era but still...

Taio Cruz feat Flo Rida - Hangover [19th Mar] - Sounds like a generic club hit, though Taio has the '2nd single curse'...

Tiesto feat Anastacia – What Can We Do (A Deeper Love) - perhaps similar peak/run to What A Feeling?

Tinchy Stryder feat Pixie Lott - Bright Lights [27th Feb] - Tinchy is always allowed one hit per era, I'm sure this will be it!

Will I Am feat Mick Jagger & Jennifer Lopez – T.H.E. - same as Taio really, sounds like a generic hit, and it has 3 big names on (Mick is an odd inclusion but he is an undeniable legend).

Too early to tell I know but early speculation is good :D

The P Reign version is far better for Alone Again! Only one rap and it's got 'like Spiderman you got me flying off of a wall' in it. :( Would Jump Smokers make it any more commercial? Either way, I'd love it if it did become a minor hit, it's 50/50 if it takes off at all though, I think.

Gotye has the advantage of being a huge hit in other countries already, but I don't know if it'll take off. It's so different from the current market though, hopefully it'll make it.

Agreed, there's more Alyssa on the P Reign one which can only be good :P It's more like Jump Smokers ft. Alyssa Reid now tbh, I would like it to be even a minor hit though.

I think Pixie Lott - Kiss The Stars will be a hit when it's started to be played by the radio's and she has promotion/ music video.
I'm not excited about any of those releases :(

I'm excited to DEATH about Kelly Rowland's new song.

Although I'm not sure how well it'll do. I hope it goes top 10.

I won't comment on everything but here's a few things:-

2nd January

Rihanna – You Da One - Will peak top 5 I'd imagine.

Taio Cruz - Troublemaker - This will go top 10 but I'm amazed they changed this from Hangover as I think the latter would have given him an easy #1 in January

16th January

Alyssa Reid feat Jump Smokers - Alone Again - Love this but it's gonna struggle despite Kiss/Capital playing it

Swedish House Mafia vs Knife Party – Antidote - Alot of people are predicting #1 but I dont see it ATM but will go top 10.

23rd January

Lana Del Rey - Born To Die - I find this alot better than Video Games, I can actually see this going top 5 actually, I think it'll beat VG anyway.

6th February

Gotye feat Kimbra - Somebody That I Used To Know - If this gets support then this will be HUGE IMO, I can't see Radio 1 not backing it and the video is quite interesting and unique, I don't wanna jinx it but the fact its taken off everywhere its been released it'll be a crime if it gets overlooked here

Coming Soon

Alexandra Burke feat Eric Morillo – Elephant [27th Feb] - I agree with the above, unless this is awful then I could see this being big.

Jessie J – Domino [27th Feb] - This will go top 10 I think

Will I Am feat Mick Jagger & Jennifer Lopez – T.H.E. - Outside shot of #1 IMO

A few more songs to mention

DJ Fresh - Hot Right Now - Think this could give him a second #1 in February

Flo Rida featuring Sia - Wild Ones - Think this will be big myself, at least top 3 I'd say.

Next year in January is going to be very interesting as there are literally not big releases ATM and I ain't a clue what will/could be #1!

I'm excited to DEATH about Kelly Rowland's new song.

Although I'm not sure how well it'll do. I hope it goes top 10.

I haven't heard it yet, but I hope it's as good as Down for Whatever

2nd January

Michael Kiwanuka - Home Again - I hope this goes top 5, although I reckon top 10/20 with some longevity is more likely

Rihanna – You Da One - around about top 5

Taio Cruz - Troublemaker - see above :P

16th January

Alyssa Reid feat Jump Smokers - Alone Again - I haven't heard this one yet...

Swedish House Mafia vs Knife Party – Antidote - I think this could very easily reach number 1, doesn't necessarily have any competition

23rd January

Cover Drive – Twilight - I can't see this doing much in all honesty, Lick Ya Down was an extremely lucky top 10 hit

Lana Del Rey - Born To Die - top 10, I think she'll be bigger with the albums though

6th February

Gotye feat Kimbra - Somebody That I Used To Know - I'm not really getting into this :( could be a grower? I reckon it will be a big hit anyway

Kelly Rowland feat Big Sean - Lay It On Me - maybe quick top 10 then a plummet as per DFW

Coming Soon

Alexandra Burke feat Eric Morillo – Elephant [27th Feb] - I don't think this will get number 1 personally, but I thought the same about Start Without You tbh

Dappy feat Brian May - Rock Star [13th Feb] - I knew this would surface :P I think it could be pretty big

Jessie J – Domino [27th Feb] - this is like the sixth single isn't it? top 20 at best

The Saturdays feat Travie McCoy - The Way You Watch Me - so they've dragged Travie in to get a hit now have they? :kink: I reckon top 20

Taio Cruz feat Flo Rida - Hangover [19th Mar] - sounds like it could go top 10

Tiesto feat Anastacia – What Can We Do (A Deeper Love) - Anastacia to get the returned flopstar treatment this year then?

Tinchy Stryder feat Pixie Lott - Bright Lights [27th Feb] - top 10/20 followed by a sharp plummet, can this be the end of him please? -_-

Will I Am feat Mick Jagger & Jennifer Lopez – T.H.E. - I'm thinking this could be a hit, been held back quite a long time though!

Edited by Christmas.Walnut

Probably won't be a massive hit but I can see The Maccabees' Pelican (released next week) going low top 40.

Gotye's song has been a big hit in so many other countries I can't see it failing to cross over here, I'm sure it'll go top 20 at the very least. I haven't heard it yet but I'm sure if Pumped Up Kicks could manage to be a pretty decent sized hit then Somebody That I Used To Know will be too.

I could see 'Home Again' being a new 'The A Team' and hanging around for ages as commercial radio pick up on it (but probably with a lower peak). I think he'll be more of an albums artist though.

Troublemaker should easily be a top 10 hit, maybe top 5.

I bloody hope that awful Alyssa Reid song flops :puke: But I agree it'll be a 'surprise' top 10/20 hit due to its Capital airplay a la Lick Ya Down.

Antidote deserves to be a huge #1. I think it'll go top 10 at least anyway and if it does get to #1 it'll be more because of low sales than anything else.

Born To Die will probably peak higher than Video Games but sell less overall - the album of the same name will be a big selling #1 though.

I don't think Alexandra's new one will challenge #1, XF acts have been underperforming recently and I can't see Alexandra being an exception.

The Dappy song sounds... interesting. Wouldn't rule out it being a second #1 for him.

T.H.E. (The Hardest Ever) I could easily see being a #1 as well.

Gotye feat Kimbra - Somebody That I Used To Know - Loving it! I wish it was number 1... all the others here are not good at all in my opinion.

Gotye feat Kimbra - Somebody That I Used To Know - I'm not really getting into this :( could be a grower? I reckon it will be a big hit anyway

Yes it REALLY is. Honestly took me MONTHS - I first heard it in July 2010 and I didn't really like it until about September, and it's only now it's properly hit me and it's my fave song right now

Flo Rida featuring Sia - Wild Ones - Think this will be big myself, at least top 3 I'd say.

Flo Rida is only allowed one big hit and two much smaller ones per album.

Mail On Sunday era:

02 Low

20 Elevator

29 In The Ayer

R.O.O.T.S. era:

01 Right Round

18 Sugar

21 Jump

51 Be On You {promo single}

Only One Flo (Part 1) era:

01 Club Can't Handle Me

41 Turn Around (5,4,3,2,1)

64 Who Dat Girl

Only One Rida (Part 2) era:

02 Good Feeling

I guess it depends on whether the follow-up is released before or after the album - if it's before, it will probably debut Top 10

Madonna is releasing an album and single early next year, and I'm sure they'll be successful - the album will most likely debut at #1

2nd January

Michael Kiwanuka - Home Again - I still havent heard this, probably going low top 20

Rihanna – You Da One - climb to #3 after radio rape it

Taio Cruz - Troublemaker - debut at #3, quickly falling down the chart

16th January

Alyssa Reid feat Jump Smokers - Alone Again - I like it, sad that they cut off her verse for another rap but hopefully low top 20

Swedish House Mafia vs Knife Party – Antidote - this screams "low selling #1" to me, first big dance release of the year

23rd January

Cover Drive – Twilight - low top 20

Lana Del Rey - Born To Die - low top 10, with some longevity when the album gets big and every radio station hypes her to the max

6th February

Gotye feat Kimbra - Somebody That I Used To Know - this years Life Goes On but bigger

Kelly Rowland feat Big Sean - Lay It On Me - not heard it yet so can't judge, but looking at the poor chart runs of WAF and DFW I can't see it doing anything

Coming Soon

Alexandra Burke feat Eric Morillo – Elephant [27th Feb] - there's no way this is missing #1 with a title like "Elephant". Would be nice to see Eric Morillo get a #1 single even though nobody knows who he is

Dappy feat Brian May - Rock Star [13th Feb] - this will be very love/hate, the hype of Brian May of legend status teaming up with Dappy of chav status will take it to #1

Jessie J – Domino [27th Feb] - Top 20

The Saturdays feat Travie McCoy - The Way You Watch Me - Top 20

Taio Cruz feat Flo Rida - Hangover [19th Mar] - another big top 5 for him

Tiesto feat Anastacia – What Can We Do (A Deeper Love) - I haven't heard this but it would be funny if Anastacia was the next flopstar to get a hit

Tinchy Stryder feat Pixie Lott - Bright Lights [27th Feb] - Top 10, spending 3 weeks in the chart

Will I Am feat Mick Jagger & Jennifer Lopez – T.H.E. - THIS WILL BE BIG

My ideal scenario would be a #1 run of "Paradise", "Antidote", "Born To Die" and "Somebody That I Used To Know".

Coldplay could scrape it next week, I think Military Wives' physicals will have dropped enough by then. They probably won't be able to maintain a lead until SHM release though. I hope "Born To Die" doesn't do a "You Need Me, I Don't Need You" and be a relatively floppish high-peaking single (with YNM,IDNY it didn't even peak as high as expected) but her album should be huge nonetheless.

Gotye making #1 would be completely wonderful, I can see the comparisons between it and "Pumped Up Kicks" but PUK had nowhere near the hype behind it and it only took off in the US after it had been released over here.

Madonna is releasing an album and single early next year, and I'm sure they'll be successful - the album will most likely debut at #1

Her single features M.I.A and Nicki Minaj doesn't it? Obvious desperate attempt at relevance but I'm sure it will be a hit even if on fanbase alone. And there's no way her album will miss #1 unless another Adele-sized phenomenon occurs.
