Posted January 3, 201213 yr Emeli Sande recently announced this is her next single. “@Benasch: @emelisande Awww. I missed it.. :( What's your new single called?”--- "next to me" From twitter. Here's a live version when she performed on Jools Holland. RnpXF0GHd2o What do we think? Edited May 9, 201213 yr by cookie_monster
January 3, 201213 yr Lovely voice, but ultimately sounds a bit boring. Hope the studio version is better!
January 3, 201213 yr It premièred on the radio this morning: c2p8Kiw2CsU I must admit that it sounds rather good - infinitely better than 'Daddy' (not that I can actually remember what it sounds like, it was that boring) and 'Heaven', which was a bit too overhyped for what it was. I can see it growing on me loads though - hopefully her future music is more like this.
January 3, 201213 yr Author The studio version is a lot less boring. I actually loved 'Daddy' but I can see why it was a bit bland or forgettable. Hopefully this can go top 10 and launch the album brilliantly.
January 3, 201213 yr I actually think I prefer the Jools Holland performance version, its touching, whereas the studio version isn't as much. Still a very good song though.
January 3, 201213 yr This better outpeak Daddy! :manson: Hopefully it will go top 10! Nice to hear something upbeat from Emeli ^_^ Much excitement for 'Our Version Of Events'!
January 4, 201213 yr Already growing after a couple of listens but nothing amazing. Is this thread going to be used for the album too..? Cover is here; http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/61v8OrmyaeL._SL500_AA300_.jpg The Popjustice review is mixed, apparantly the songs are of a high standard but not what you'd expect after hearing the first couple of singles, quite 'Leona Lewis' in places. Not sure what to make of that but we're getting another part to 'Read All About It' which should be good at least.
January 15, 201213 yr I feel as if everything with Emeli has been gradually falling apart after Heaven and I really can't imagine this album being anywhere near as successful as you'd think. It just feels like every bit of the hype she had around her last July or whatever has evaporated. Did anyone even care that she won the Critic's Choice? Edited January 15, 201213 yr by Umi
January 17, 201213 yr If there is any justice and she gets good promotion this album should be No 1. Solid, strong, vocally perfect, she deserves to be huge. Album samples are amazing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s8gilEDJTtk
January 18, 201213 yr -nwdjQmc_N8 'Next To Me' is definitely a lot better than 'Daddy' for me, and will definitely continue to grow on me. :D
January 20, 201213 yr This is really, really good. I dunno but I'm expecting it be a big number 2 hit (bigger than 'Heaven') as opposed to a big number 1 hit! Such a simple, understated, feel-good song.
January 20, 201213 yr I love everything I've heard of Emeli's material so far, it reminds me a little bit of Shaznay Lewis when she went solo from All Saints, particularly songs like 'Daddy' which I've been playing a lot recently. I loved her on Pro Green's single last year too.
January 21, 201213 yr I've pre-ordered the album. I love the new song and have heard a few snippets of other tracks on the album which are nice ballads. She has written all her material and I have high hopes for this artist.
January 29, 201213 yr Now that's a performance/collaboration I never expected to see! She obviously struggles a bit with the most powerful notes, but I think it's because the original is a bit out of her range. Her voice is much deeper. Hopefully we'll see her work with Guetta in the future - I think she'd work well on a dance track on his next album. Really looking forward to this album. I heard her perform it all on her mini November tour and it was brilliant. "My Kind Of Love" is the one to look out for I feel. Hopefully the fourth single.
January 29, 201213 yr I might be overpredicting this somewhat but I think if Emeli performs this at The Brit Awards 2012 to coincide with the singles' release (due out in 3 weeks time) then I think 'Next To Me' could well be a UK #1.
