Midweek Charts update: Domino dominating for Jessie

Jessie J is having one of the best weeks of her young career with three Brit nominations and a new US chart peak and she now looks set for another UK number one single.

Having been marginally behind Atlantic act Flo Rida’s Good Feeling at the start of the week, Jessie J’s Island/Lava release Domino is now around 6,500 sales in front, according to Official Charts Company Data. Raked in eighth position on last Sunday’s chart, Domino has seen a 122% increase in sales this week and by the close of business on Thursday was nearing 40,000 units.

Her expected number one follows Brit nominations on Thursday for best British female, breakthrough and single (for Price Tag), after being awarded the Critic’s Choice Award at the 2011 event. She has also achieved a new chart breakthrough in the States this week, cracking the Top 20 of the Billboard Hot 100 for the first time with Domino progressing 21-17.

Who will top Sunday’s artist albums chart is less clear at this stage as by the end of trading on Thursday there were only around 1,800 sales separating the first and third biggest sellers. Fiction/Polydor act The Maccabees’ third album Given To The Wild remains in front, but close behind are Elektra/Atlantic’s Bruno Mars debut Doo-Wops & Hooligans and XL’s second Adele album 21. Although Mars is ahead of Adele he is only by 35 sales. :o

Gotye is going to end up somewhere around #43 on Sunday isn't he :manson:

I wonder if the Maccabees will hold on over the weekend, I'm not so sure with the Brits announced yesterday, I still think Adele, Bruno or Ed Sheeran can take it.

I do see the point in what MW does. The Friday midweeks are really those who interest us the most because they're closest to the final chart on Sunday... Tuesday mids are just the same as iTunes really (singles-wise anyway) and Radio 1 takes care of Wednesday.

It only matters to us chart geeks in real life.

However, don't know if they lose lots of subscribers by this.

Ahh looks like Kelly will miss out on Top 20 this week, probs end up about #23/24 come Sunday. Hopefully Top 15 next week though!

Or at least 2 of the 3, in terms of overtaking the Macs, anyway?

Gotye is still top 30 on iTunes so I'm sure he can stay in, especially since there's two versions of "Dedication To My Ex" ahead of him so he's actually a place higher than it appears. On that logic I hope to see Skrillex top 40 by Sunday as well.

I'm loving the singles chart at the moment, some tracks are new to the 40, but most of the tracks were lingering outside the 40 between Nos.41 to 100 last week which are Pixie Lott (81), Foster The People (41), Pitbull (44), Kelly Clarkson (71), Goyte (97), and a re-entry for Birdy, Skrillex and M83 might just scrape in over the weekend. The most likely new tracks will probably enter the chart between 41 to 75 from Professor Green and Cher Lloyd and climb inside the 40 the following week.

It seems a new trend having new entries between 41 to 100 and climbing inside the 40 the following week.

So, only 1,800 copies between Adele and The Maccabees. Still hope for her to be number one.
Any idea where Nicola Roberts is with Yo-Yo?

Nope, not top 40. I'd be shocked if it was top 200 tbh :(

Midweek Charts update: Domino dominating for Jessie

Looks the Maccabees will have to settle for #3 or #4 depends what Ed Sheeran sales are like, its really between Bruno Mars and Adele.

Maroon 5 back out of the top 10 :cheer: Although they'll probably get there next week at the rate they're going <_<

Looks like a battle between David Guetta/Sia and Rihanna/Calvin Harris for the 'spare' space in the top 10 (aside from Jessie J, Flo Rida, Rizzle Kicks, Avicii, Lloyd/André 3000/Lil Wayne, Taio Cruz, Coldplay, Olly Murs and Labrinth/Tinie Tempah - I assume Labrinth is at 8+1 anyway?) Hope Guetta gets it.

Great to see 'Take Care' (song and album) on the rise again and Michael Kiwanuka looking set to climb into the top 30 :D No Skrillex/The Doors in the top 40 yet but I'm hopeful they could sneak in by Sunday (Professor Green and M83 could also challenge for the top 40 - all 3 should be there next week anyway if they miss out this week, Cher Lloyd/Astro and Snoop Dogg/Wiz Khalifa/Bruno Mars as well maybe).

Bruno probably heading for the #1 album this week if he's ahead of Adele now :( Adele could re-overtake though I guess. Just praying for The Maccabees to somehow hold on, their lead must be getting tiny by now. Also not happy to see The Vaccines and Foster The People out of the top 5/10 respectively although I was expecting that since they've fallen on iTunes albums which is probably a pretty high proportion of their sales given their price reductions. On the upside Ed Sheeran and Coldplay are up from yesterday :P

EDIT: Yeah, if The Maccabees' lead has closed from 3k on Weds to 1.8k today, it's going to be very tough for them to stay #1 - not impossible but very unlikely. Would have been nice to get some actual sales for them/Bruno/Adele but ah well. At least we got sales for Domino I guess :P Domino being <40k isn't brilliant but at least it should do more than Flo Rida did last week.

Can I please have the exact positions of 'Take Care' and 'Pumped Up Kicks' on the singles chart + 'Stereo Typical', 'Take Care' and 'No More Idols' on the albums chart? Thanks.

Close call on the album chart - I'd rather not see Bruno Mars back at #1 - it'd be undeserving considering 'It Will Rain', his recent single, isn't even on there. It'd purely be reaching the top spot as the result of a price reduction. Would be nice to see The Maccabees get the first #1, reviews for it are very positive - but I reckon Adele's '21' or Ed Sheeran's '+' will snatch it with weekend sales.

As for the singles chart - nice to see Gotye in the top 40 - but it means M83, Professor Green and Snoop/Wiz are all in the 41-60 region. Hoping to see Guetta push Rihanna + Calvin out of the top 10 with 'Titanium', will make its climb the following week a little less dramatic. Interesting that Lloyd is still as high as #5 - although Pixie, Beyonce and Guetta are causing a problem on iTunes at the moment, I reckon it still has a few more weeks top 10 as the result of the two versions.

Album sales are going to be absoultely APPALING this week! ;)
Good climb for Pixie from Wednesday's Update 36-21, Should end up around #15-19 come Sunday.

Whether Kelly enters the top 20 or not with Stronger, she'd have climbed at least 45 places this week :)

I wonder where the album is.

Apparently that's top 75 in Music Week mag there is a list of singles that are most likely to chart in the top 75 they are Birdy, Nicola Roberts, Skrillex & The Doors, Snoop Dogg & Wiz Khalifa, Nirvana [sLTS], Kanye West & Jaime Foxx [Gold digger] and Enrique [Tonight], in that order. And in albums The Maccabees, Birdy, The Smiths [The Sounds Of], Eminem [Curtain Call], Glee Cast Vol 7, You Me At Six [sinners...] and Pink Floyd [A Foot In The Door] in that order.
