January 9, 201214 yr Author Wednesday Update Top 40 Only SINGLES <- CLICK ME Jessie J’s Domino set to topple Flo Rida in the Official Singles chart race In a tight battle on the Official Singles Chart Update this week, it is Jessie J who nudges into the lead ahead of last week’s chart topper Flo Rida. 'Domino', taken from Jessie J's double platinum debut album 'Who You Are (Platinum Edition)', was co-written and co-produced by Dr Luke who also worked with Jessie on Number 1 single 'Price Tag'. 'Price Tag' spent two weeks at the top spot and went on to become the fourth biggest selling single of 2011, as revealed last week by the Official Charts Company. With just over 1,000 copies separating Jessie from Flo Rida’s 'Good Feeling' (2), the race is well and truly on for the prize on Sunday’s Official Singles Chart. The only new entry inside today’s Official Singles Chart Update Top 20 is Birdy’s 'Skinny Love', as performed to by Hollyoaks actress Jorgie Porter on last weekend’s Dancing On Ice. The song was originally written by Bon Iver, Birdy’s cover, released in March 2011, peaked at Number 17. The song today bounces all the way back in at Number 15. Michael Kiwanuka, winner of the BBC’s Sound of 2012 poll and third place in The Brits with MasterCard Critics Choice Award 2012, makes another climb today ten places to Number 27 with the title track from forthcoming debut Home Again. Guitarist Felix White revealed to NME in this week’s cover feature that he views the albums as “a fresh start for the band”. “With this album we got to piece the songs together by ourselves, it was kinda like a new start," he said. "That’s what I enjoyed the most; setting up the mood of a song.” If 'Given To The Wild' can sustain its opening performance into the weekend, this will be their highest charting release to date. The Maccabees’ first album 'Colour It In' (2007) peaked at 24, and second album 'Wall Of Arms' (2009) managed a Number 13. Having been just a few hundred sales behind on the week’s first midweeks on Tuesday, Island/Lava’s Jessie J single Domino is now around 1,200 units ahead of Atlantic act Flo Rida’s Good Feeling, according to Official Charts Company Data. If Domino, which was at eight on last week’s chart, does hold on until Sunday it will be her second UK chart-topper following Price Tag, which spent two weeks at number one last February. Meanwhile, Fiction/Polydor signings The Maccabees’ newly-issued Given To The Wild is currently around 3,000 sales ahead of XL act Adele’s 21, which returned to number one last Sunday for a 19th week. Even if it is eventually overtaken by 21, Given To The Wild will provide a marked chart improvement on the band’s first two albums with debut Colour It In reaching 24 in 2007 and follow-upW all Of Arms peaking at 13 two years later. It is the only brand new album registering anywhere in this week’s Top 75 top sellers. The Maccabees album is unusually one of six rock albums among the week so far’s Top 10 titles, a tally partly explained by some heavy discounting of certain Columbia titles by iTunes and other retailers. These are headed by The Vaccines’ debut Columbia album What Did You Expect From The Vaccines, which is £3.95 at iTunes and £4.99 at HMV and moves 16-4 as a result. There is similar discounting for fellow Columbia releases Velociraptor by Kasabian and Foster The People’s Torches, which move 17-7 and 27-8 respectively, while lower down the Columbia-handled and discounted Wasting Light by Foo Fighters leaps 46-21. In the case of the Foster The People title the album now looks like enjoying a new chart peak, having so far reached as high as 24. There is also a climb into the Top 10 (15-10) for Sour Marsh’s Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds album, while the rock contingent is completed by Parlophone act Coldplay’s Mylo Xyloto, which is the ninth top seller of the week to date having been fourth on last Sunday’s chart. The Top 10 positions are concluded by Elektra/Atlantic act Bruno Mars’ Doo-Wops & Hooligans’ dropping 2-3, Asylum/Atlantic’s Ed Sheeran album + slipping 3-5 and the Columbia/Parkwood Entertainment-issued 4 by Beyonce holding in sixth place. As Mama Do The Hump progresses 5-3 on the singles midweeks, Island act Rizzle Kicks’ debut album Stereo Typical has seen its sales increase 67% week-on-week to move 24-15. Cash Money/Island’s Drake album Take Care is also experiencing a big sales spike, up 35% on the week to move it on the midweeks 28-22. In what is an equally quiet week for new releases on the singles chart, the 14th Floor/Atlantic-issued Birdy track Skinny Love, which previously peaked at 17, is showing up as a re-entry at 15 after it last week soundtracked Hollyoaks actress Jorgie Porter on ITV1's Dancing In Ice. It is the only entry of any kind in the midweeks, although a number of tracks are experiencing significant week-on-week sales increases, including Interscope/Polydor’s Dedication To My Ex (Miss That) by Lloyd featuring Andre 3000 and Lil Wayne, up from 10-5 with a 29% sales lift. Sales of the Stranger-issued Lana Del Ray single Video Games are up 65% as it rises 26-13, while Columbia’s Foster The People are not only looking at a potential first UK Top 10 album but their single Pumped Up Kicks’ sales are up 31% on the week with a 41-22 midweek chart move.
January 9, 201214 yr Author Midweek Charts update: Domino dominating for Jessie Source: MW 12:26 | Friday January 13, 2012 By Paul Williams Jessie J is having one of the best weeks of her young career with three Brit nominations and a new US chart peak and she now looks set for another UK number one single. Having been marginally behind Atlantic act Flo Rida’s Good Feeling at the start of the week, Jessie J’s Island/Lava release Domino is now around 6,500 sales in front, according to Official Charts Company Data. Raked in eighth position on last Sunday’s chart, Domino has seen a 122% increase in sales this week and by the close of business on Thursday was nearing 40,000 units. Her expected number one follows Brit nominations on Thursday for best British female, breakthrough and single (for Price Tag), after being awarded the Critic’s Choice Award at the 2011 event. She has also achieved a new chart breakthrough in the States this week, cracking the Top 20 of the Billboard Hot 100 for the first time with Domino progressing 21-17. Who will top Sunday’s artist albums chart is less clear at this stage as by the end of trading on Thursday there were only around 1,800 sales separating the first and third biggest sellers. Fiction/Polydor act The Maccabees’ third album Given To The Wild remains in front, but close behind are Elektra/Atlantic’s Bruno Mars debut Doo-Wops & Hooligans and XL’s second Adele album 21. Although Mars is ahead of Adele he is only by 35 sales. :o ======================== Friday Update Top 40 Only Singles 1 Jessie J (6,500 ahead) 2 Flo Rida 3 Rizzle Kicks 4 Avicii 5 Lloyd Top 15 Maroon 5/Christina :kink: David Guetta/Sia 14 Lana Del Rey 15 Beyonce :D Top 20 Drake/Rihanna Rihanna [YDO] Birdy 20 Katy Perry :puke2: Top 30 21 Pixie Lott :heehee: Foster The People Pitbull/Chris Brown Charlene Soraia 26 Kelly Clarkson Michael Kiwanuka Top 40 40 Gotye/Kimbra :cheer: ======================================== Albums 1 The Maccabees (1.8k ahead) 2 Bruno Mars (35 copies ahead) :o 3 Adele [21] 4 Ed Sheeran 5 Beyonce Top 10 The Vaccines Kasabian Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds Top 15 11 Foster The People Rizzle Kicks Top 30 Drake Foo Fighters [WL] Skrillex Christina Perri 29 Katy Perry Top 40 Professor Green The Black Keys Foo Fighters [GH] Sixteen/Christophers ================================= ARTISTS UPDATE Singles Coldplay 3+4 Olly Murs 4+4 Rihanna/Cavin Harris 5+5 Military Wives 20+2 One Direction 30+1 Little Mix 30+2 JLS 30+3 Lady Gaga 30+8 Albums Coldplay 3+4 Amy Winehouse 5+5 Jessie J 10+3 Rihanna 10+4 Westlife 10+6 Lady Gaga 10+7 Will Young 10+8 Rebecca Ferguson 10+9 Adele [19] 20+2 Rihanna [Loud] 20+6 Katy Perry 20+9 Cher Lloyd 30+2 Snow Patrol 30+3 Matt Cardle 30+4 JLS 30+6

January 10, 201214 yr Maccabees at least top 3 today, could do a You Me At Six and cling onto the midweek #1 for a couple of days.
January 10, 201214 yr Author Maccabees at least top 3 today, could do a You Me At Six and cling onto the midweek #1 for a couple of days. I'm not so sure to be honest, they are going to crash later in the week though, BRITs nominations are revealed on Thurs, so Adele, Ed Sheeran, Bruno Mars, Jessie J and probably Vaccines are going to get a leg up with Coldplay, Rihanna and a few others. The #1 race for the album is going to be very tight.
January 10, 201214 yr Changes in the top 10 allbums Columbia have 3 rock albums in the top 10 midweeks - result of tv advertising them at ridiculously low prices if purchased online?CHART NEWS - midweeks: Maccabees new album in at #1!! Flo Rida ruling the roost again in the singles chart battle Edited January 10, 201214 yr by Sunday
January 10, 201214 yr Wow, great for the Maccabees, didn't think it would start ahead of Adele. Also great for the other three, I thought iTunes discounting may push up The Vaccines and possibly Kasabian to the top 10 but I didn't think Foster The People too!

January 10, 201214 yr Looks like no more mids on a tuesday MW It says the same for the singles chart. How come they have changed it? There have been midweeks on a tuesday for ages now.
January 10, 201214 yr "Torches" a rock album? It's like calling Adele "rock" Torches is Indie Rock. Adele is not.
January 10, 201214 yr I suppose we can always hope that they still compile them but don't publish them. If so, that might mean eliminating most of the mistakes before publishing the first set. It will be interesting to see whether we get mids before the BBC publish them tomorrow.
