January 22, 201213 yr I can't believe a song as big as Super Bass only peaked at #8. Wow. Same in the US. It was the 8th biggest song of the 2011 there, and only peaked at #3. So kind of their version of The A Team.
January 23, 201213 yr Okay, so now it really IS Coldplay vs. Maroon 5 for highest male(s) excluding features :P Surprised at Will being so low, loon vote can only get you so high but I thought it was fairly universally adored anyway. Coldplay in the top 10 :cheer: Edited January 23, 201213 yr by Bré
January 23, 201213 yr Thank god for Will missing the top 10 with that borefest, shame about "Super Bass" though.
January 26, 201213 yr Author 10 | Lana Del Rey - Video Games | 603pts HO1OV5B_JDw Just making the Top 10 is what will probably go on to be one of 2012's biggest newcomers as she has amassed a huge amount of hype with this and 'Born To Die' and I'm pretty sure her album will be a huge #01 seller too. I think she is personally a little pretentious and kind of just feels like she's trying too hard at times as well imo. I do think this song is fantastic though, really different to what else is out there at the moment, very atmospheric and she has a stunning, unique voice as well. There's a reason the public have connected over this song and not the inferior 'Born To Die'. 09 | Katy Perry ft. Kanye West - E.T. | 606pts t5Sd5c4o9UM&ob=av2e Katy surprisingly crashes out at #09 with her biggest hit this year, 'E.T' which was a huge Top 3 hit in the UK as well as a #01 for her in the US. The video is definelty one of, if not her absolute best and I actually think her pairing up with Kanye West added to the song slightly (although I live for the version with her middle eight included in it as well). I didn't think it was the best song on 'Teenage Dream' initially but it grew on me when it was released as a single majorly though.
January 27, 201213 yr Only 3 points separating Video Games and E.T. I still prefer Video Games. I like Katy Perry but E.T. is hardly an unforgettable song. Edited January 27, 201213 yr by Jason
February 4, 201213 yr Anyone know whats happened to this thread? The results appear to have stalled. Suspense? :kink:
February 5, 201213 yr So what's left? Three Adele songs, We Found Love, Moves Like Jagger, On The Floor, Paradise?
February 17, 201213 yr As it should be! 'Judas' is by far Gaga's best single to date. It's Bad Romance's bast*rd cousin... Marry the Night is the pick of this year's Gaga singles. Edited February 17, 201213 yr by tonyttt31
February 17, 201213 yr 12 | Will Young - Jealousy | 582pts So Will Young's comeback single isn't as high as most thought, but I'm still not sure it'd even be in the final if it wasn't for his loons. Still it was a decent enough comeback for him, showcasing something slightly different for him and managed to get another Top 10 hit, as well as a #01 album following it. I think it's alright, nothing particularly groundbreaking and I'm not really a fan of his voice much either. 11 | Nicki Minaj - Super Bass | 591pts Nicki's big breakout was all thanks to this song, which reached #08 in the UK and went on to sell over 300,000 copies. In fact I don't think she'd be quite as popular as she is without this song! But what a gem of a song it is, the infectious chorus, the fun and lighthearted rap that has everyone doing their best Nicki impression and she looks amazing in the video too. Probably my personal song of the year and I can't wait to see what she comes up with for the next album! could any explain why they voted for Jealousy and not the amazing Come On? Superbass is fantastic.
April 8, 201213 yr The Record of the Decade thread being bumped has reminded me of this which still hasn't been finished. Just another little reminder for chu~
May 4, 201213 yr Should I just finish this off seeing as I have the results or wait for Jack to do the honours?
May 4, 201213 yr If there's no objections than I'll start it again at some point tomorrow, quite tired now and I'd like to finish it off properly.
May 5, 201213 yr 08 | Jennifer Lopez feat. Pitbull - On The Floor | 612 pts t4H_Zoh7G5A&ob=av2e My favourite song of the whole year, Jennifer Lopez really came back with a bang when she released On The Floor featuring resident tag-a-long rapper Pitbull to give us the 10th biggest selling song of the year in 2011! This managed two weeks at the top, opening with sales of 133,179 which is nothing to be sniffed at! Jennifer is hoping to return to the UK charts with her latest single 'Dance Again' (which coincidentally also features Pitbull). 07 | Maroon 5 feat. Christina Aguilera - Moves Like Jagger | 621 pts iEPTlhBmwRg&ob=av2n Now from one big comeback to the biggest comeback of 2011! Moves Like Jagger astounded the residents of the iTunes chart when it managed a staggering 7 weeks at #2 without reaching #1, and in the process getting beaten by 'Stay Awake', 'All About Tonight', 'What Makes You Beautiful', 'No Regrets', 'Loca People' and 'We Found Love'. Maintaining sales of over 70,000 each week, it went on to become the 2nd biggest selling song of the year, (behind Adele's 'Someone Like You' which is still to come), and snatching the title off 'Love The Way You Lie' to arguably become the biggest #2 of all time! Personally I think the song is a bit overrated, but I will give some credit in that it has hardly tired on me, despite having blanket coverage across all music channels and most radio channels. :P 06 | Coldplay - Paradise | 641 pts 1G4isv_Fylg&ob=av2n Coldplay's 2nd #1 hit has done remarkably well considering it was illegible to chart for the first six weeks of it's chart life due to being free when you pre-ordered their album 'Mylo Xyloto'. It managed to eventually hit #1 in the first week of 2012 after 16 weeks in total and an X Factor final performance with sales of 108,390 which is amazing for a song that climbed to #1, let alone a song that had already spent so long in the chart. The song itself is a fantastic stadium anthem that seemed to be universally loved at that the time and it felt right that it was peaking at #1 at the peak of its popularity. It also holds the title as the highest song in this countdown with male vocals on it! So well done Coldplay!
May 5, 201213 yr Paradise beating Moves Like Jagger :cheer: That's all I was really hoping for for this countdown :P
May 5, 201213 yr The final five consists of: Adele - Rolling In The Deep Adele - Set Fire To The Rain Adele - Someone Like You Lady GaGa - The Edge Of Glory Rihanna feat. Calvin Harris - We Found Love I'll announce each track individually from now on, so predict away! :D
May 5, 201213 yr 05 | Adele - Set Fire To The Rain | 686 pts Ri7-vnrJD3k&ob=av2n The truely baffling question with this is, how did it not chart top 10? The answer is the lack of music video, it was understandable at first due to Adele's laryngitis, but months later and after a belated Someone Like You video, we still haven't got a music video for this and probably never will :( One suggestion I read somewhere was they didn't want to make a music video because the record company didn't want to overexpose Adele and kill off any chances of success post-21. Currently the second best selling song not to make the top 10 (behind Jason Mraz's I'm Yours) but it's looking likely to overtake him soon.
